What kind of jobs do you think the main cast of this show ended up getting after the series ended? Sakaki would ovbiously be a vet or at least someone involved with taking care of animals. I like to imagine Tomo tried to get a job as a cop, but for ovbious reasons she either didn't get it or only had it for a short amount of time before being kicked out. Not sure about the others or what Tomo's current job would be.

If she wasn't a professional athlete, I could see Kagura becoming a lifeguard, gym teacher (like Nyamo) or a sports coach.

I could imagine Tomo at least wanting to do something like working on a demolition crew, but then getting upset when she finds out there's more to it than just getting paid for wrecking stuff.

I am not sure about Yomi or Osaka, although Yomi might want to be a teacher and Osaka would need to find a job that could accommodate her spaciness. She might be good at a creative job like writing fiction or being an artist, though.

Kaorin was in the astronomy club so maybe she would become an astronomer or have a job related to that?

I recently bought the Manga Omibus version of AD. Speaking as someone who saw the anime before reading the manga, the differences between the two are really interesting. Like how certain moments from the manga were placed earlier in the anime, which resulted in some anime moments not having Kagura even though she was in the manga version {Stuff like the Hiccups chapter/episode or Kimura being a perv at the swimming pool}. I also noticed that the manga is a little bit more crude then the anime, with more swearing and a couple more boob jokes. And Kimura is somehow even less subtle then in the anime. "Look at her, she's barely legal!" It's also just a little more fanservicy at times then the anime, what with the Sakaki pin-up that pops up at the start of the first beach chapter and also how the swimsuits are more revealing then in the anime {Not by a tremendous or ridiculous amount though}.

When it comes to which one I like more.......... Honestly, I like both equally. There's some funny things from the manga that didn't make it into the anime, and some funny stuff that was made specifically for the anime. I can't choose, so overall Azumanga Daioh is just a hilarious experiance.

Rewatched some of the episodes.

Holy crap, I didn't realize that the anime had such great soundtracks.

Two questions. 1: Which do you prefer when it comes to this series, the Anime or Manga? As I said a couple of posts ago, I can't choose either myself, since they both have pros and cons when compared to each other, while still offering an overall hilarious experience.

2: For the anime, is there anyone here who actually likes the English Dub? I'm a huge fan of it myself and love the voices and acting, especially the dub actors chosen for Yukari, Tomo and Kimura. I find it very underrated.

Speaking of the anime, I was so lucky to have gotten a copy of the out of print DVD several months back, with all 5 discs fully working and the cases and box being intact. I really do wish someone {As in whoever currently has the American rights to the anime} would re-release the show though, as that would be awesome. Especially if the two animated shorts {The web short and the "Movie"} were on it as bonus features. I'm kind of wondering why it's not even on any official streaming websites, considering how popular the series is.

[up]Speak of the devil about re-releases: Sentai Filmworks has picked up the license! Or, technically, re-picked it up, seeing as Sentai is part of what was ADV Films to begin with.

As for anime vs. manga: I can't decide, they're both amazing. I managed to snag the Class Album DVD set back around 2010-ish, and it was already $80 then, it's well over $300 now. Maybe Sentai will actually make it affordable again...

[up]OMG! That is amazing! I am so looking forward to seeing AD re-released on DVD again! I know that I have the old DVD and thus it shouldn't matter, but still. I wouldn't mind buying this show again, especially since you never know what the actual case will be like. The one I have is a thin-pack case, and I usually don't like those, except I do prefer it over the annoying alternative of having the discs all stacked on top of each other, which is something I hope Sentai Filmworks doesn't do with the upcoming DVD. What are Sentai Filmwork's other DVD releases like?

So... Apparently searching for Azumanga on Youtube causes the search to not find any single video related to it.

Break out the tinfoil hats.

Searching by one of the Azumanga characters' name still works, though. Just don't include "Azumanga" or "Daioh" in the search terms.

Huh. Someone found a workaround.

Well, whatever's caused the error is gone, I just searched "azumanga daioh" up and no error popped up. Still, odd that this in particular would throw up an error...

Someone speculated that there was a particular video that was causing the error, and that the searches that worked were the ones that didn't return that video as a result... I doubt someone would upload a site-breaking AzuDai video on purpose, but it could have been a corrupted file or something.

Azumanga Daioh: Complete Collection is now up for preorder! Personally, I'm really glad it'll be available for a decent price again, but a "complete" collection should have included The Very Short Movie and Azumanga Web Daioh on it as well, otherwise it's just the previous Class Album release with newer box art. Not that that's bad, just not truly "complete" IMO.

Hmm. Well, I already have the older DVD, so without those two animated shorts {Thankfully though you can still find them on youtube}, there's not much point in me buying the new one. I am however glad that other people can buy the show now, and I might still buy the DVD in the future if I decide to give away my old one. I wonder if AD will end up on any official streaming websites any time soon.

Sentai's release of Azumanga Daioh is now listed for preorder on Amazon, and to answer your question earlier, it seems to be a regular DVD case for the packaging.

Looks like the Amazon price on the DVD has gone down from 49 bucks to 25 bucks. So if you couldn't afford to pre-order it before, now might be a good chance to do so.

How would you feel about either an hypothetical OVA or a short manga series that acts as a sequel to AD and has the students all grown up? I personally think the idea has a lot of potential and I wish that was a real thing, but at the same time I can kind of see it going wrong. But if it was done right I think it would be awesome, especially since we could see what the cast has been doing over the years beforehand {Like Tomo getting a job at that Mcdonalds Expy from the manga and promptly getting fired for various reasons}. Maybe the plot could involve a High School Reunion that brings back the whole gang {Assuming that Japan does High School Reunions, that is. I admittingly don't know}.

Oh, and just because they're grown up doesn't mean that they'd nessecerily mature in a mental sense {Yukari is living proof of that}, so you could still get wacky hijinks from the characters.

Oh lordy, talk about a massive necro.

Even though I read the manga three times already - twice with the original four volumes, once with the anniversary remake of three volumes - but I only realized very recently that I haven't finished the anime yet.

Currently on ep 15, and yeah, I can see why the pacing is one of the biggest criticisms of the anime. The anime has 26 episodes but I'm pretty sure at least two episode worth of fillers could have been removed...

As of now I'm watching this alongside of the final season of Attack on Titan and...yeah, it's quite a weird experience. [lol]

Random musing.

Just watched ep 18 and over two thirds into the anime.

One of the many things I love about the cast is this sense of childish but harmless pettiness displayed from time to time - except from Sakaki.

In particular, Tomo might be annoying but without her this series would have felt really flat and lethargic. [lol]

Welp. Finally finished the anime.

It feels like...I'm saying goodbye to not only one of my all time favorite work, but also to a part of myself that is both cherished and yet need to let go.

In a sense...the ending of the anime truly feels like a closure to a part of my entire life. Thank you for the experience, Azuma Kiyohiko. I will never forget this series.

...Now, it would be really nice if only you could finish Yotsuba&! as well. [lol]

What'd you think of Episode 19, aka the episode that is entirely original to the anime (IE zero content from the manga)? It's one of my favorite episodes personally.

It's the one that has the girls doing a "yawning exercise", reveals that Yomi sent a letter to a radio show under the pseudonym "tearful little diet girl", and has Nyamo meeting up with an old colleague of hers who tries to set her and Yukari up on a double date, only for Yukari to scare the guys away off screen. It was a lot more melancholic than many other episodes but still had some gags tossed in.
