I agree with making YMMV. Even though the trope does require a consensus, rather than just one's personal opinion - it's still an Audience Reaction to a creator/creators. Besides, there will be a minority that will disagree with some of the examples.
I would rather repurpose this into the in-universe concept it's misused as. It's honestly more Trivia then anything else right now, not to mention that I don't care for the implied statement that you can only be cool if you're 'edgy'.
