Would it be off topic if I said there were a few games I like now that I'd probably have enjoyed less if it weren't for the art style and presentation? Games like TWEWY and Mirror's Edge come to mind. I think that art and presentation are part of the experience, so two games with identical gameplay but different art direction can have a substantially different feel. Doesn't just apply to games either.
As for good games I passed on, well... I wouldn't really know if they're good or not since I haven't played them. A large number of FPS series come to mind though.
Not at all.

PM me if you add me on any.I haven't played Gears Of War 2 or Killzone 2 simply because the games before it bring Real Is Brown to inhuman standards and i don't want to play anoether game like that if i can help it. Hell, killzone has what seems to be a cherry blossom field that is devoid of color.

Bleye knows Sabers.Sword and Sorcery Underworld (http://www.classicgamesremade.com/) is supposedly good but I'm not even going to give it a second of my time when the developer doesn't have even the shred of self-respect for an original text-based interface.
Iji I also passed on but that has more to do with how overrated indie PC games usually are.
Pathologic was severely impaired by its ass-ugly graphics. I didn't pass on it though.
Ah, Gears of War. My problem with its art isn't that everything is brown/gray (though it certainly doesn't help)... it's that the characters look like someone stuck vaguely human-looking heads on top of gigantic robotic bodies. It's looks pretty Uncanny Valley to me.

PM me if you add me on any.I have no idea why a headcrab that looks entirely realistic scares me much less than a moving and jumping box with a blurry texture on it. Pretty much the reason I lose my shit when I play the first Half Life and haven't finished it yet.

Pretty much...any and all games that has Uncanny Valley in it, unless it was intentional.
Any game where the protagonist is hideously ugly, and.........any game with RAP in it. Unless it's brief short and only happens like once, then I can just get that part over with and pretend it doesn't exist.
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."The entire Gothic series. Honestly tried the first two's demos. Came away mentally scarred. And this is from a hardened retro-gamer.
Videogames do not make you a worse person... Than you already are. When I've entered the Shivering Isles in Oblivion, I got utterly confused and put off by what I've seen. Just what the hell are all these things? Didn't touch it since.
Great, so there are legitamately people who get scared off by the idea of a setting that isn't a generic Tolkien rip off
Well, there goes the last of my faith in modern gaming.
Wow. So tempting to reply with an >implying. Must stop hanging at that one place.
I think it's perfectly rational to get confused by something completely different from a setting one has spent about 100 hours in. And sorry in case you like them, but Grummites are fugly.
That's why you are supposed to club them to death.
If there's any fun or creativity in Oblivion (and that's a big IF), it's in Shivering Isles.
While there are artstyles I loathe(see. space for rent◊ and drowning in belts◊ bet you all expected Nomura art for that second one) I don't think I've ever been put off enough by one that I wouldn't play a game because of it.
Umbran Climax◊Not going to name any names, but...a few.
Okay, so if you passed on it because of the art style, how do you know whether or not it's a good game?
Do not fear power... fear those who wield it.Is it a really popular game whose die-hard fan will tear you apart for naming?

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."None. I'm not a graphics whore.
^^ Well, the title included both presentation AND art style...
So the person might not have any problem with the presentation, but if the art style bugged them...or vice versa.
^^^ Skyward Sword?

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."I've held off playing Dragon Slayer II: Xanadu for a while, mainly because the aesthetics indicated a really tough as nails game that had the potential to eat me alive for breakfast in about two minutes. I somehow decided to play it anyway (the MSX version), and slowly but surely, I'm doing just fine.

That game ain't rightMega Man Powered Up at first. Now that I have it I love it.
Okay, may as well spill. It's TERA. Combat mechanics look interesting; art style is manhwa meets Uncanny Valley with a heavy dose of gratuitous voyeurism and awkward animations.

Mad World. I might have liked the game otherwise, but I can't tell apart crap.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.
Rather self-explanatory. Also, try not to turn this into a complaining thread. I'd rather not have this be my first locked topic.
And try to explain why instead of just slapping down a name, it'll make for much better discussion.
