What would your character do in the above situation?:

2001 Eagal, Sat, 26th Jan '13 9:43:03 AM from This is a location. Relationship Status: Waiting for Prince Charming
This is a title.
Your character discovers they have a long lost brother

Cerne: Find that scenario exceedingly improbable considering he's the Anthropomorphic Personification of a planet.

Verbrannte: Politely explain to said "brother" that for various spoilery reasons he considers himself to be a separate person from the person he was born as, and as such does not regard familial connections that he did not initiate to be valid.

Your character meets his or her greatest childhood hero, who is every bit as awesometastic as they remembered.
The madness is catching.
2002 Bisected 8, Sat, 26th Jan '13 11:58:36 AM from The home of Richard III Relationship Status: I-It's not like I like you, or anything!
Uly meets her godfather Lt. Dam; the man who gave her her solenoid pistol note . He's every bit as awesome as her parents said.

Your character went to bed, only to be woken up by their best friend doing something out of character.

What the hell, hero?
Mitsuru would see Aoshi, the resident Casanova, crying like a little girl and letting the feelings flow while also revealing that she's actually a bisexual girl and that she loves him since they met. This is part of the story, actually: it happens after she finds out her whole family, including her beloved father, are part and heirs of the Satsuma Clan, which makes her part of said clan by bloodright, but she feels she can't betray the clan. She even points it out when this on her breakdown. Mitsuru bitchslaps the girl and tells her to "man up", then he states that he's not gonna kill her because he is in love with her, despite he thought she was male, and now he found out the truth, he's gonna fuck her hard (account the character is 15 and looks like 12 because of his shorty size. He coldly states that she will be the sole heir once he had kill her family, kisses her in the cheek and goes back to sleep. Afterwards, Aoshi's character shows up broken and kinda stray, probably because she realized her love of her life is even more ruthless than she thought

Your character finds xirself shrunk at doll sized and captured by a little girl who want to play with them. Oh, snap.

SARATOGA NO JIKAN DAAAAAAA!!!
 2004 Sharur, Sun, 27th Jan '13 11:34:45 PM from Dor-lomin
Maccus: "Okay, little girl. You're alive, which means its time to learn that the world isn't a nice place."

Vigdis: "What purpose does playing with dolls serve? No, you may not adorn my hair nor may you put me in that garment! It doesn't have any armor, nor would it serve against the chill of the slightest breeze. Stop that! What are you doing? Arrrg!"

Andromeda: "Hi, my name is Gaia Andromeda Tatius, but you can call me Andromeda! All my friends do...what's that? You wanted a magic doll? Well, today is your lucky day! I'm a wizard! Well, apprentice wiz...girls can too be wizards! Watch this. *makes small pyrotechnic display for a few seconds* Huh? That's all...um, could you take me into the sunlight for a while? I need to recharge my magic crystal"

For the next poster: Your character has to eat their least favorite food. What is it, and how do they react?

Seeing as aspects of what I'm writing dance along the edge of xenofiction at times, this should be amusing:

Philip, being herbivorous, is literally incapable of properly digesting meat properly; even the smell of it makes him a bit ill. Hence, he is forced to eat steak tartare. Initially, the flavour does not bother him, but he shudders at the texture. A few hours later, he vomits. Not a happy experience.

Ariadne, being an obligate carnivore with limited sweetness reception and a weak stimulant metabolisation rate, eats a very large helping of chocolate. The taste is interesting but unappealing, and the texture is a bit odd. After a few hours, she becomes quite ill, but not before feeling the effects of the theobromide. Definitely not a happy experience.

Your character is trapped on a rock in the middle of the sea during a violent storm with no means of escape. Their only means of contact with the outside world is a failing two-way radio. Who do they contact, what do they say and why?
2006 Twentington, Mon, 28th Jan '13 12:09:31 AM from Somewhere Relationship Status: Desperate
Mustelidae = awesome
June will try to contact Jillian and panic about being stranded. Jillian will say "You can fly, stupid", June will say "I Forgot I Could Fly", and do so.

Jillian will just chuck the radio in the sea and say, "Screw it, I'll be okay in the next strip."

Your character is transformed into a Petting Zoo Person. What species are they, and how do they react?

[up] Uh, I said no means of escape. As in, flight is not currently an option even if it would otherwise be available.

[up]How would it not be available if she has wings?

Alternate answer: She pulls a more functional radio out of hammerspace to contact Jillian and panic. Or the cartoonist.

Uly would probably end up as a squirrel girl (since she does a lot of climbing around and hoarding), and she'd be very confused but quite excited at the implications (the technology to turn someone into a PZP is known to exist in theory, but it's Lost Technology that'll need to be recovered and repaired, even if it does).

What would your character do if they were disguised as their worst enemy's sibling for a day.
2010 Vashiane, Wed, 30th Jan '13 1:02:07 PM from the Halidom of Ylisse
Do you trust me?
Emerson: Torment the hell of them in as childish and disturbing of a way possible, slowly reducing her enemy to (hopefully) a gibbering wreck.

Kole: Try to get along with them so long as he's stuck in that form - there's something good about everyone, and maybe he can find it.

What would your character do if they discovered that at a young age they had been betrothed... to their same-gendered best friend?

When horoscopes go wrong
Drakon: He would initially be extremely embarrassed to be bethroed to a Knight and disappointed he couldn't marry the peasant girl he had a crush on, but then he would wonder exactly how his father expected to get heirs to the throne with this arrangement. Sir Tauros would probably not take it very seriously at all.

Tigris: She would be happy she wouldn't have to move away from the castle and wouldn't really be bothered by the fact she has to marry her lady-in-waiting. She hasn't really had a preference for any person before this, so gender wouldn't really affect her. Paige would be embarrassed over it as well, but would technically be marrying up. She does only think of Tigris as a sister, though.

What would your character do if they were locked in a small space with a person they loved/had a crush on for an hour?

Before The Reveal, Aoshi would feel uncomfortable to be that long with Mitsuru and would try to just kill time. Mitsuru would follow what ever chat follows.

After The Reveal, the scene between [[Spoiler:the danger seeker Bifauxnen]] Aoshi and her Ax-Crazy, yet commited boyfriend Mitsuru would, well... end up with Aoshi and Mitsuru kissing and hugging and... you get the image

Your character discovers wakes up one day and finds out that A) their whole life had been just a dream; B) they are actually a gender bent version of the person they believed they were, while the whole world remained the same. Also, they get a flash of information about their "real" life, which leaves them startled. How's that "real" life and how will they cope with the whole reveal?

[up] You are aware that that's not the point of this thread, right? The point is that you take a character and put them into an unlikely situation to see how they would react under those circumstances. It's an exercise in character development. Superpowers and reality-warping kind of defeat the basic purpose.

The thing that ruins this thread is the number of times a premise is responded to with something along the lines of "that's never an issue for my character and so In One Bound Jack Was Free".

Twentington's example is not the first I've seen, and they all bug me no end.

Yours was a good premise, JHM, and should have highlighted who the characters call on in times of dire need and how they would help.

Ian would contact his family (partners Andrea and Cath, and Cath's partner (and Ian's long-time friend) Helen) if at all possible and let them know the situation as fast and as clearly as he can given the state of the radio. He'd try to convey his last known co-ordinates.

He'd tell them to contact air/sea rescue organisations then tell them he loves them and that he's going to hole up in whatever shelter he can find on the rock.

He'd naturally be concerned that he will die of exposure before help can get to him and will want to tell his family how much he loves them but he would remain upbeat and talk as if his expectation is that he'll be rescued once the weather calms down enough for a rescue attempt.

He'd then seek out any part of the rock that will shelter him the best from the storm, even if it's just huddling to the leeward side to wait for the storm to abate and rescue, if it's forthcoming.

In lieu of my own suggestion, the next poster can answer RESP's one

Going with my Tabitha Logan character again for this. Amazon Buffy: how would she cope with learning her whole life is just a dream and she is a gender bender of that person in real life? She would struggle to cope. I mean she would really struggle. Especially with the revelation that her real life is a dead end that seems impossible to get out of.

You're on a Navy ship, there's been sabotage and several murders: clearly there's a traitor on board. Now a special investigation team has come in and they are questioning the flight crew one by one, they're finishing questioning the roster's XO and you're up next. What do you do?
The mark of a good story means not feeling like The Angry Video Game Nerd hearing it.
2021 Matues, Thu, 31st Jan '13 2:18:59 PM Relationship Status: Reincarnated romance
Zaya: Well, since, in all likelihood, I ''am'' the one responsible.. I play it cool. I've been lying for a very, very long time. Assuming I purposely placed myself in this situation, I will have studied the interrogation techniques (Including the ones they don't talk about). Barring that, I know at least a hundred different ways in which to fight. [[ChallengeSeeker Bring it on.

You have achieved apotheosis. Now what?
(Forgive me if I didn't understand the scenario properly I had to get the definition of apotheosis from Google)

Considering the fact that they more or less "saved the world" I guess it would be possible that they would be deified in the minds of some people.

Ace : Would find this very troubling. She would refuse to take any advantage of it. She would insist on giving the glory to God, and all due credit to the scientist who actually developed the cure (as opposed to her role of distributing it).

Ghost Would find it extremely annoying. He'd Try to ignore it . If pressed outbursts of "I AM NOT A GOD!" would be possible. He might take advantage of it in some circumstances but he'd feel guilty about it.

Ghost Sword Dual Wielding
Markus: While not easily troubled by many disturbing or frightening things, he would be rather terrified of the personification of the darker parts of his memories that he's forgotten from his amnesia

You character wakes up on day to find that everything about their life has switched. They hate things they enjoyed, the hero is now the villain and the Beatles never got famous (Truly a tragic universe). While they're going through a regular day of this switched life, an itching in the back of their mind tells them that something's wrong with the way things are going. They eventually discover the truth about things, how do they react?
"If the initial explosion won't kill us, the second probably will. Also, there will be two explosions."
[up]yes but what does he do?/how does he react ?

In Ace's "opposite world" the world would not have ended. There would be no plague. The government and civil services would be intact. She'd be a normal college student. In fact she wouldn't even be called Ace, she'd still be Anna. However she'd never have met Tango, Athena, Ghost, or Julian and Angel probably would've never been born. The feeling in the back of her head would be a kind of a vague loneliness. When she realizes the truth that this opposite world was just an illusion/dream/hallucination and snaps out of it. She would run home pick Angel up and hug her as hard as she could, then she would kiss Julian and Ghost on the cheek, hug everyone else in the weep. For the rest of her life she'd have to live with the fact that she would gladly lose the whole world to have her family .

Your character falls in a giant mud puddle.

Uly would be annoyed but move on (her coat's already quite muddy anyway).

Your character finds the remote control from the movie Click.
