I don't see the reference at all. What am I missing?
Rhymes with "Protracted."It's not really a reference - it's just that the song "Eleanor Rigby" features a funeral like this, and also features the word "Lonely" a lot.
I suppose my preference for Empty Funeral over Lonely Funeral is the worry that the latter would be mistaken for "feeling lonely at a funeral." But the notes about similar misinterpretations for Empty Funeral does lead me to think that there is no "perfect" answer.
Regardless of my preference, both do work; I suppose it's just a matter of seeing which is actually preferred.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Yeah. Although neither of them are perfect, both Lonely Funeral and Empty Funeral work well enough. I'll wait another day, and if the results are the same, I'll take care of the renaming.
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”You know, as the person who said they kind of wished the song could be referenced, I'm going to say I see no reference in the title Lonely Funeral. Not even a subtle one or whatever. I simply upvoted it because it's a good name. I also upvoted Empty Funeral because it also works just fine.
But Lonely Funeral is better. It invokes emotion more so than the alternative.
How about The Lonely Mans Funeral? It fails to indicate the attendance level of the funeral, but does indicate the type of man being honored at the funeral, which can then suggest the level of attendance.
Or how about Empty Seats Funeral? Or Under Attended Funeral?

I would put all those on the crowner.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianMy favourite so far is Empty Seats Funeral because it instantly conjures the appropriate image: a funeral with such low attendance that it has more empty seats than guests.
I dislike Empty Funeral because it feels off to me. You wouldn't say "Empty Party" or "Empty Wedding," because an event can't be "empty" (unlike, say, a seat). "Empty" in the sense of "meaningless" would make sense, but clearly that's not what we're going for.
(And Lonely Man's Wedding is unnecessarily gendered — but more importantly, we'd always be double-typing it to get the apostrophe.)

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."Yeah, but the crowner's unlikely to change after being open this long, so it'll probably be Lonely Funeral.
And as for The Lonely Mans Funeral, we wouldn't have to pothole it every time. That's what the custom title request is for.
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”Empty Funeral seems too close to an Empty Casket Funeral like they don't have the body but are having it anyway.
So upvoting Lonely Funeral.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Looks like we have a winner. Should we make the switch now?
The winner seems clear at this point. Does anyone think we should wait longer?
Think Of The Ewoks.....I am fine calling this one. It has a very strong lead and it's been holding consistently for, like, weeks.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Renaming done. Calling for a lock.
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
I prefer Lonely Funeral—it says exactly what it needs to.
But I hesitate on adding a Beatles reference for an explanation of the trope title onto the page. As another said, it's a bit of a strain. I don't think we're choosing it for the reference, anyway.
