For a GURPS demonstration module, I came up with Rockin' Hood and his band the Merrie Men. Instead of an archery tournament there was a battle of the bands.
Under World. It rocks!

For writers: on Robin Hood.
Watch Ridley Scott's version, then read Robin Mc Kinley's version and then read the cliffsnotes of the very ancient versions and you'll get enough real stuff to make a good story. Read Marian—a dry dull book but worth it in the end. Read Hood—historically inaccurate but full of bright ideas.
I just watched Ridley Scott's version and I personally loved it.
do something different with the time period.
Brush up on the actual history — lionheart and Prince John and Eleanor of Aquitaine. Who really kept the crown? After that, take a look at who much the miller's son was versus who Little john was, and decide if Alan-A-dale is really as young as some make him out to be. Is Marian a damsel, a maid or a warrior? Can she be all three? Figure out who Will Scarlett is—noble or yeoman?
Come on writers, pitch it: let's see what you've got!
