I resurrect this thread with a video.
The skill system is INSANE. Active skills are gained through a socketing system and certain gems increase the power of other skill gems. Passive stat increases are gained through a passive tree that rivals FFX's sphere grid. The graphics are beautiful and the interface looks to be clean and polished.

Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans....wow
WOW
i did not expect there to be THAT many skills
Mind you those are all stat increases. Instead of putting points into stats they skipped the middleman and gave you a tree. Its all passive stuff like +8 int +3 str +3 dex +cast speed.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. They rewrote the whole passive "tree" with the 0.9.11 update. Jury's still out on whether it's a buff or nerf. Some are saying nerf, others say buff.
I started the page VideoGame.Path Of Exile after playing the game the whole weekend. Feel free to contribute...
The game just went to Open Beta yesterday. Lots of people coming in, patches, character wipes, all that good stuff. Ended up rolling another Witch. Having a good time.

started playing.
witch handles nicely, couldnt ask for more in an mmo. although it took about 2 hours to install because the client appears to have problems getting started, with the actual download only starting 45 minutes in.
I love this game. Playing a duelist, since the use of a rapier intrigues me. And because everyone else is downright evil while he's just a bit of a jerk.
Just beat the warden with my first party. They aren't kidding about the "Skill forest" bit.
Bleye knows Sabers....he stabbed a guy for insulting him.
at least the witch's house was burnt down in what was likely an attempt to kill her, probably taking a lot of her most cherished worldly desires with it. in which case killing the arsonists kids puts her just a slight bit below duelist on the list of idiots giving out disproportionate retribution, i should think.
plus the templar guy was doing things for his religion and was betrayed, although i dont think we're told what he did...but the tropes page seems to consider him among the nicest of the playable characters, so im assuming he doesnt really qualify as downright evil...

The duelist didn't kill some random guy. He killed a noble. Anyone that's played Dwarf Fortress can tell you he did his settlement a favor.
The children the Witch killed didn't burn down her house, their parents did. Regardless, killing children puts you way over the Moral Event Horizon.
The templar I don't know much about.
But them skillz! Yay for decoy totem and fire trap!
Bleye knows Sabers. The Shadow isn't evil either! He's just willing to do questionable things for a price.
But yeah, I've played this a little bit as a duelist. Don't really have any time to play it more than I already have.

One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -Landstandereh, i dunno, anyone who's played dwarf fortress has generally tortured and killed a couple dozen of children FOR SCIENCE so im finding it kind of hard to see a childkiller as evil at the moment...without labeling myself as such at the same time.
plus, it is only fair if someone destroys your house in an attempt to kill you and in the process destroys all your most cherished wordly possessions and probably a lot of research (assumin thats what psychotic non-crooked nose witches do in their spare time as opposed to putting children in ovens and doing dance numbers that predict the future), you hit back at them in a way that gets similar results...and children are for some reason stereotypically cherished by their parents between 1 and 3, 7 and 12; and 20 ad infinitum years of life.
they seem like a perfectly reasonable target.
i mean SURE its disproportionate...but i still think responding to a verbal taunt with possibly unannounced fatal physical violence is more disproportionate...

What's a good setup for a 2H melee ranger build? On an unrelated note, I got into this game because of my friend.
L'idylle est mort.I @$%&ing knew this was going to be the next big thing.
I wonder if a melee tank ranger is viable. LET US PROCEED TO EXPERIMENTATION.

Bleye knows Sabers.Heh, didn't realise the thread was back on the front page. I'm currently playing a 2H Marauder - pretty standard Resolute Technique / Unwavering Stance / Blood Magic setup - and am in Cruel Act 2 presently.
Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.I have a Witch. She does fire.
And the glacial wave thing or whatever it's called, because that thing is useful.
I've been thinking of playing this, but I've seen (semi-)conflicting reports about what sort of game it is. It's well-known to be heavily inspired by Diablo 2, but in some places (such as posts 1 & 8 of this very thread) I've seen it be called an MMO.
I don't mind Diablo 2, and I didn't mind its multiplayer either, but is this game an MMO? I've always felt that the more people in a single game at a time, the worse it gets.*
This is an MMO. HOWEVER, you only party with people you want to party with. If you honestly want to solo the entire thing, you can and people can't bother you about it.
Dost Thou Desire the Power ... Glove? It's so bad. It's far closer to TF 2 than World Of Warcraft in the sense that you'll only be able to play with a limited number of people outside of lobby areas and you have to choose who you want to play with.
This is comforting. Is there a limit to how many people can be in a single party, or do the servers let people go nuts (if they want)?
So I just started working on a Witch character. The plan is to be a dual-wand wielder focused on physical damage, so I want to pick up all the wand and dual-wield passives for damage and accuracy, use Frenzy and Power Siphon to throw out lots of critical hits, use the elemental damage auras to do something with my mana, and maybe use some curses like Projectile Weakness.
Sound viable?
You've lost. You're the Bomb Squad after the bomb's gone off. I'm the blast ongoing.
There might have been a thread about this before, since the thread archives only go back 6 months, but I can't find one.
So, Path of Exile is a Diablo-like MMO supposed to go into public beta later this year. Has anybody else been following development and trying to get into the beta?
