This is a restart of the Mass Effect RP, if you have any sign in from the old thread, please redirect yourself here.

I'm thinking of doing a Mass Effect RPG, for those of us into the story. Diceless RPG, still with unique combat/diplomatic bonuses and maluses (e.g. quarians are natural tech experts, but cannot withstand much injury due to the likelihood of suit ruptures endangering their lives and krogan are excellent hand-to-hand combatants and can perform their krogan Charge, but tend to damage diplomacy with non-Krogan, basically, stuff that makes sense). I haven't got far with the story, but needless to say, you go from fighting mercs to fighting Reapers. Since there's a lot of room for change, I'll probably wing it. My class system will be Combat/Tech/Biotics. You can choose to be full in one, or half and half between two. Combat allows for weapons training and heavier armor. One extra weapon and Medium Armor at half and all weapons and Heavy Armor at full. Biotics and Tech allow you to have biotic and tech talents. Some species cannot have full spec in particular areas (i.e. so long as it makes sense) These 'gameplay mechanics' are mostly for thematic flavor, since it's nice if everyone has a role.

Goal

Pretty simple really, My character is CO, Plumbum is our XO. If you have a profile for a character, please post, and me and Plumbum will find you a place, we are looking for at least 16 players.

Ship Registry

You can choose the position onboard the ship! Might come into play if we get into space combat... First come, first served! Those of you with x/x instead of x/y is to show that single-spec makes you twice as powerful.

Backstory: Katie was at birth taken into the Cerberus research facility on Pragia, and known as "Subject Twelve" - Katie is just an assumed name, she has no knowledge of her birth name. Katie was never originally a biotic, but became so through an experimental operation. She has devoted her life to taking out the scientists involved with the Pragia facility.

Skills: Tech/Biotic - Focuses more on Medical Support than Combat

History: Marik was born into a military family on Palaven. Unlike the rest of his family, however, he did not enjoy firearms combat, preferring to support his teammates with his unusual (for a Turian) Biotics. He likes to resolve things peacefully when possible and mostly uses defensive Biotics, to prevent injury to either his allies or his opponents, when he isn't healing his comrades. He also learned to cook from his grandmother and was further schooled in a variety of cuisines by a human he met on the Citadel; this training has allowed him to appeal to the palates of just about any species.

Name: Deimos Braxis(I have no idea of the naming conventions for Drell, seeing as there are only 4 mentioned in the series so far, so I'm gonna stick with the Greek thing) Race: Drell

Skills: Biotic/Combat (Assault Rifles)

Backstory: Born on Kahje into a fishing family, Deimos lived peacefully with his parents until the time came for him to do his part for the hanar as outlined in the Compact. He left home at the age of 17 under a private contract to be but one of the army of bodyguards of a wealthy and often targeted hanar executive. Hardy from the years of working at sea, he adapted well to the training the hanar gave him. After serving his 5 year contract, he left the service of the hanar and relocated from Kahje to the Citadel, where he fell in with some unsavory people who led him into the world of illegal, high-stakes open space private ship dogfighting (say that three times fast). Finding himself bored with the lifestyle, he decided to sign on to a job where he could see more of the galaxy.

Job: Gunnery Sergeant (is this military ship? anyway, he takes care of the big guns)

Personality: Deimos loves the thrill of combat; however, the loss of those closest to him is a very real possibility that always resides in his mind. He is a hothead, is quick to defend what is dear to him, and is fierce in his own personal code. Deimos likes to gamble, as evidenced in his ship-fighting past; high-stakes are exciting to him.

Uhmmm... first rp for me. I don't know if that is overly descriptive, or stupid, or what, but any pointers would be appreciated.

Please remember if you have a single combat spec, you have to specify a weapon you're trained with. If you have two, you sacrifice pistols.

If it's a big ship, á la Normandy, he is a Strike Team Leader. If the organization allows rank to Krogan (that ain't a given) he is either a First Sergeant or a Second Lieutenant.

it's funny, if you're an infantryman, the only weapon you'd actually need specialized training for would be a sniper rifle; unless we're talking anti-armor or mortars.

Well I was speaking about the modern day military, not sure why ME has it like that (aside from balance); everyone who goes through basic learns how to use a rifle.

It makes much more sense to make Biotics and Vanguards focus almost exclusively in SM Gs and Combat Shotguns, respectively:

After all, you're only going to deploy these dudes at VERY short ranges, to generally harm people/break things with their minds and close quarters weaponry.

Same, but in reverse, goes for the Infiltrator: You're only deploying these as either lone wolves/saboteurs or assassins. Either undercover or at a quite long range. Since they're basically Commando sappers, you're going to focus heavily on engineering, the Sniper Rifle and the ME equivalent of the HK PDW.

As for Sentinels, they're basically support personnel. It doesn't make much sense to train them for anything except the PDW.

[up] That's actually the point about Katie, she's set up completely wrong being a biotic sniper, but coming from the Cerberus facility she doesn't want to get close to people, physically or metaphorically.

I'm not sure about the ME universe, but in modern combat, running headfirst into a group of bad guys is a great way to get you killed. They never really specified the range of biotics; all the more reason to stay back and shoot.
