Minorities Versus Minorities

Suppose someone is claiming that they have a right to be loudly and publicly homophobic because they are autistic.

How would you respond to such a situation? Does the fact that the prejudiced person is part of a group that is prejudiced against change anything? Should it be handled any differently than if it's the majority attacking a minority?

At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...

I think that people who use mental or physical disabilities to excuse bad behavior are jerks. Does that count?

Find a gay autistic person to tell them to shut the fuck up.

I don't tend to voluntarily interact with people who espouse anti-gay bigotry, or people who treat their autism as some kind of political identity, so I'm not sure I would respond at all.

Well being gay if I was the on the receiving end of abuse from someone from another minority I'd treat it as I would from anyone else; pull a humouring face and move on.

In principle? There isn't a huge movement to get autistic people to "stop being autistic" and strip them of rights, so it's no excuse. The fact they use autism as an excuse implies they know better, and if they don't someone should straight up tell them that's rude and inappropriate. Gods.

I'd tell the person in question to shut the fuck up. And since I can't verify if the person's actually autistic, I should be allowed to sock him in the face because as far as I know, bigotry is not related to autism.

I'm going to make a few guesses here. You're white, aren't you? You're about my age, correct? Eighteen? Yeah. You live in a predominately white country, so chances are good you never had to seriously deal with bigotry in your life. Never have you been called a nigger, a spic, a gook, or any other epithet. Never have you been accused of being a thug or an immigrant just because of the color of your skin. You think all claims of racism in the modern era are just ways to invalidate any criticism a minority would receive. I'm half-Filipino and for the past seven years, I've lived in rural Tennessee. Tell me right to my face that racism doesn't exist. You hold an abhorrent viewpoint. And yes, disliking homosexuals does make you homophobic in the same way disliking blacks would make someone a racist.

Eh, last I checked, the vast, vast majority of humans are... humans. So unless their actions dictate otherwise (ex. they're an unfriendly, or worse, dangerous individual), you should treat them with the same due respect as anyone else.

As for the thread itself... equal rights entail that no-one has special rights unless everyone else can have special rights. So if a black person has a right to join a black peoples' only club, surely I should be allowed to join a Whites' only club? Or a White peoples' rights organisation? No? Because the White majority is not accorded any formal privileges? Does that sound fair to you?

I'm not saying whites are bigots. I'm saying that a white teenager in a predominately white environment would be expected to have a very limited understanding of what it means to be a minority.

As for joining a whites-only organization, that's perfectly legal in the States. However, said organization is probably going to have some negative associations. Now on one hand, this isn't fair. A black person can join a militia and possibly be revered for spewing black supremacy while a white person doing the same would be decried as bigot. Which is true, but should also apply for the black person. On the other hand, these minority-specific organizations were made to level the playing field. It takes a lot of help to escape from the mindset that's ingrained in your culture after decades or centuries of oppression.

What's so hard to understand? I mean, with all this diversity training which is forced down peoples' throats today...

It goes both ways. Ethnic minorities need to have respect for everyone else, and to follow the rules of the nation in which they are residing. It's disgusting that we are supposed to put up with high crime rates from immigrants, and turn a blind eye as if Muslims and Black people are no more likely to mug or rape you in the street than any other group.

Minorities should be on their best behaviour if they expect acceptance. Instead, we are seeing the opposite from many minorities. Casual religious extremism, gangs which target white girls, how can people demand respect when they hate the indigenous population and want to impose their religion upon our nation? Minorities have been given a lot in the way of equal rights, surely they have no excuse?

It's ridiculous to judge an entire ethnic group on the actions of the loud few, just as it would be ridiculous to judge Caucasians on the basis of the Klu Klux Klan.

40% of UK muslims is not just a "loud few". The amount of hardline Muslims is even higher than that.

Muslim paedophile gangs are found throughout the country. Might be the criminal actions of a minority within a minority, but that doesn't make it any less significant when these gangs pose such a massive threat to young White girls. Thousands, I hardly call it an isolated incident. It is a massive problem, and the majority of Muslims are not taking responsibility. Like I said, minorities should be on their best behaviour if they want to be treated equally.

For the record, not that large of a group.

More so, I have severe doubt that as many as 40% of Muslims in the UK like raping white girls, seems like a rather specific target group that was made up to make the "true Brits" fear the Muslims, plus, 80% of all males who are Muslims in the UK probably don't do that, but that's just me. What you're saying feels like several exaggerations of what is otherwise a very, very small group of criminals that aren't representative of any racial or religious group.

Those are 2001 statistics. Of course they're going to be lower. What's disturbing is the amount by which the Muslim population has grown since 2001. By about 600-800k from immigration and birth rates.

And by the way, that 40% is referring to the amount of Muslims who support sharia law, not rape.

Unbelievable. Someone starts a thread about minorities. An actual member of a persecuted minority makes a post and gets called out for saying whites persecute people.

You want to blame the entire Muslim community for the actions of a few criminals, whether they're rapists or terrorists? Then whites must blame themselves for the Klan, the Neo-Nazis, and the Westboro Baptist Church. It's a double standard.

You want minorities to respect others? I can take you to a town where the KKK posts its meeting notices on telephone poles. If you're black and you live in that town, the police will not help you if you get in trouble. I'd say survival trumps sensitivity.
