Reading through some past strips, I remembered something - what was that glowy effect Quigley seemed to summon from his glasses before that (mockery of a) duel with Duane? Was that some kind of customary ritual before a duel or something?
I think it was some sort of vision augmentation.

Yeah, he's not a fundamentalist or anything. From the flashbacks I gathered that, if anything, he's way more casual about his religion than others. He just sincerely believes in his religion.
Okay I probably used the wrong word. But he had never been interested in questioning his religion or trying to figure things out by himself. Now he is. And I think that's beautiful.
I don't think it's his religion he is questioning, just what exactly happened to him and why.
