If he was thrown in bodily, then it seems odd that he's so fixated on climbing the cord attaching Duane to his body, and that he had trouble exiting via the various breaches that occurred a short time before.
That said, I do note that he's rather more solid and earthy in his colouring than most other things in the Khert, with Duane's memories being perhaps the only other things with similar colouring.
(Lady Il-Gan-Yag is similarly solid, but rather more unusual in colour and form.)

it seems that mask was a hilarious failure. Not only did it help cause all this mess, it proved to be utterly ineffective at doing the job it was supposed to do. Go Duane!

That close-up of the creature shows it's design very well; the mouth-eyes and hand-teeth stand out for me. It occurs to me that it's not far from being a "pain elemental", a-la the Chzo Mythos and others, given its origins.
One thing worries me: Where is Duane as of the final panel...? It looks as though he should be more or less under that horrific creature...

By the way, I've been wondering whether that plod that we've seen in several recent panels will come to do something—it's been quite conspicuously visible, its eye seemed to light up a little in one panel (although that might have been nothing more than light shining through that hole in its head), and it seems like a likely repository for some of what's floating around—or perhaps for Murkoph.
