A future besieged by climate change to be exact. That said, I didn't expect the series to move in that direction. I'd love to try this out.
Surprising. This will probably be fun. Anyone else get the Alpha Centauri feeling?
Videogames do not make you a worse person... Than you already are.No (unless there's a Downer Ending - then it's the prequel to AC.)
Jonah FalconI mean from the series' evolution standpoint. Or I should really take out the brainbox and clean the association core out?
Videogames do not make you a worse person... Than you already are.I think you're reading a little too much to connect Anno 1401 with AC.
Though if planetmind starts speaking to you, RUN!!!
Jonah FalconWow, this trailer will make you want to play.
I must own this game. I want to hug the box it comes in.
I'm more of a city builder guy, but that mite b cool.
Gak...I forgot Anno was made by Ubisoft...and I hate their DRM practices....Crap.

Just played the demo.
Need.
But...So...POOR.
Well it's available on Steam now, so you should probably be able to avoid the DRM issues... probably.
Anyone care to tell me what the game series is like though? All I know about it so far is what I've seen on Steam's website. Basically looks like Sim City 3000, but more focused on global warming.
Well, it's basically a German game series, whose first installment became massively popular (in Germany, that is), in which you have to colonize an island (preferably more than one) and have to build up your colonies, provide necessary stuff for your citizens and (optionally) crush your rivals. It's actually quite similar to another formerly successful German series, The Settlers.
For obvious reasons, that probably doesn't apply totally here, but I have no idea what exactly 2070 will make differently (my best guess is that it uses planets instead of islands).
But what I wonder about, is the English version actually titled "Anno 2070"? The English versions of the former games were titled "[year number] A.D." after all.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.It still uses islands, with the justification that global warming led to rising ocean levels which led to the vast majority of the world being flooded. That's the background for the whole Ecologists versus Tycoons conflict. (some of the teasers imply that you'd be able to build underwater, though... so islands and undersea domes, it seems)

"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent."So is this game good?
Worst score is a 3.5 of 5 from Game Spy. No one says it's a bad game. At best, great, at worst average.

Jonah FalconTrusting metacritic to accurately interpret a five-point score is the worst thing you can do to a game.

No, but you can visit Metacritic and see each and every review, and read them to get a consensus.
Jonah Falcon^Yeah, what makes me sad about Metacritic is that I'm pretty sure that's what they want people to do, but most people just look at the number at the top instead.
Anyway, ontopic: my roommate got this yesterday. Looks pretty awesome. I might ask for it for christmas, since I already bought Skyrim and Skyward Sword.

Infinite Tree: an experimental storyIf Anno series is popular, why does it seem to lack tv tropes page? .-. I thought all popular stuff already got a page...
Because nobody's made one yet.
Having a wiki page or not really isn't the best way to judge a work's quality.
Infinite Tree: an experimental storyThere is a page: Anno Domini
^^True, but I didn't say that it means its bad, I said its strange that I can't find one xD
The game is alright, it still has the Ubisoft Uplay DRM crap, so when the servers went down last night my Island started to plunge into collapse as all of my bonus modules on my ark flickered off and I was left with a power deficiency and my balance in the negative.
I enjoy this game, but it becomes impossible after a while to maintain some of the later luxury goods. God damn plastics, champagne, and luxury meals.. I usually find myself an Island tailored to making those goods, but 3 factories pumping them out isn't enough and I start to have to rely on getting little infusions of the stuff from trade.
And jeebus christ did they make it hard as hell to manage any sort of decent military. Takes so much effort to get one damn plane off the ground... I have to sell off half my stuff to trade to maintain my balance with 6 choppers, which at best, can harass the AI just enough to where as soon as I go back for fuel, they start to rebuild what I destroyed.
I enjoy the game and the logistical aspect, just wish they would have made the military functions a little more accessible.(And the nukes a little less expensive)
Anno 2070 announced.
Yes, it's Anno OF THE FUTURE!
