Redeemed at his death, then gets sent to oblivion, crying like a pussy. Huh. As far as Sylvanas goes, I can certainly kindly point you at... Val'kyr. Yes, I understand she really had no choice unless she willingly wants to go the oblivion. But... seriously, have you ever seen how many people compared Sylvanas to be 'Lich King v.2' or (I'm sorry) 'female Hitler' for her Val'kyr deal? I'm not even sure if she'd be going down the same path as Kerrigan at this point...

If all's said is "Thrall is the newest Orc Shaman and totally not evil", well fine, but what about the whole Orc horde? They're also tamed and converted to good! ....

I didn't say the quote is 'will be important'. It's 'will have a role'. There's a difference, she may as well having a cameo role again in LotV. Go to Nova's wikia entry about the Trivia. You'll win if you see that it doesn't have citation. Might be my mistake, but I was sure that there is a citation.

I've got two things from that popularity thing:

  • Firstly, yes, Mengsk is more important as he's the main villain. Indeed. But what I'm saying is that Mengsk is more compelling as a character, justifying his importance and his 'popularity' (as far as 'a most effective villain' or 'biggest motherfucker that I wish he'd die a horrible death'). While Nova as of now is pretty popular, but if it was only because of her looks, not her character depth, are we confirming to those viewers by saying "Yes, we like her because of just her boobs"? That those who likes Nova are all dirty shallow fools and she absolutely has no depth? (I'd seriously appreciate if these kind of viewers would just GTFO from the face of the internet and it's all right and there's no shame to just like a character not because of their depth. Y'know... like Dead or Alive?)
  • Oh, I'll definitely argue that Raynor is less important: He's the hero of the series, has links with the three races: he's a Terran, 'dating' with Kerrigan (now Zerg), and buddies with some Protoss (Zeratul, Artanis, Tassadar) and looks like he'll be taking part in the big battle against Amon. Need I say more? And linking that, what Blizzard is implying is that Nova has as much importance on the level of Raynor or just slightly less, and that's also kinda why she's the one in Heroes Of The Storm, where most 'iconic' Blizzard characters gather. But if in her own verse, she didn't show that much importance, all in all it just makes it look like Blizzard is lying.

Maybe next time you should focus on what Blizzard said and did...

I don't see how redemption is mutually exclusive with him dying and "crying like a pussy". i think we must have different definitions of redemption. He's certainly not rewarded for his life, but he doesn't really deserve a reward. Wait, is this a Christian thing?

Sylvanas is evil now, yes. But that's not because she failed to be redeemed, she just decided to be evil at some point. People can do that. But before that she redeemed herself by giving the lost residents of Lorderon their kingdom back. Because being undead isn't the same as being evil. It just overlaps sometimes.

I will not go to a wikia page because wikia is evil for some vague reasons I don't properly understand. I'm not gonna give them hits anyway. But the fact that you care so much about some vague quote using ambiguous language like "important" and "has a role" is not my problem, not the writer's problem, and not the game's problem. That's your problem. You're the one reading "important" to mean "more important than X character (like Tychus)". "Important" means basically nothing on its own, and the fact that you're blaming other people for how you read a particular word is what rankles me. And, of course, it remains to be seen what she'll do in Legacy of the Void. You are, in fact, blaming the writers for what they haven't done yet.

As for what they've done? Well, not much. They've done nothing. This is a total non-issue. Nova is a hero in HotS, but so's Zagara, the random zerg queen. So's Abathur. So's "generic orc shaman from World Of Warcraft". The standards aren't all that strict. "Important" doesn't mean anything.

Also, Mengsk is more important than Raynor to the plot of the first two games since he's the sole motivation of nearly every single character.

No way she'd do that, unless WoW is no longer profit-generating. That's just how it is.

Zagara, I think, plays quite a prominent part in Heart of the Swarm, while Abathur is Kerrigan's advisor. And of course, it absolutely make no sense that Diablo is heroic just because he's playable in Heroes.

Also I said 'most 'iconic'', not everyone there is iconic, I won't say Murky (a random Murloc) or Brightwing (some random Faerie Dragon) are iconic... and neither is Sgt. Hammer.

Because being undead isn't the same as being evil. It just overlaps sometimes.

This I agree. Unfortunately, as far as majority goes, being an undead means you will be first pegged as a villain unless you otherwise do a lot of Pet the Dog or get shown with sympathetic moments. That is what's going on out there. See, this is why I say that being put on Mengsk's services means that you will be 100% designated as unsympathetic villain, regardless of how morally ambiguous you are, unless you make some Pet the Dog or sympathetic moment...

.... But I bet you're next going to say "This is not what the people think, this is what YOU think!" How do I put something that disgusts me, that being the mindset of 'this character better serve our needs, such as opposing the Obviously Evil villain, or else they deserve no sympathy!', into a pedestal?

Mengsk is pretty weak as a villain character, unmemorable.

Would you guys say that Kerrigan in her Zerg-infested form (both original and Primal) counts as a Half-Human Hybrid and/or Mix-and-Match Man? (The last one I bring up because it's not exactly clear what the nonhuman part of her new genetic makeup consists of; is it "pure Zerg", or a melange of the best traits from all the species the Swarm had absorbed?)

Probably the latter. She's too far changed to ever be considered truly human again, even after she was "cured" at the end of Wings of Liberty. And the Zerg have a habit of splicing several species together to make a superior one, so there's probably several different types of genetic code in her DNA now in addition to her original human DNA.

[up][up] Well, how about Uneven Hybrid and/or Heinz Hybrid? And I think we could use a trope where emphasis is put on a hybrid being part-human.

So, after a long period of not playing the game since The Wall Will Fall started up, I finally decided to updort Wings of Liberty and get myself back to figuring out how to play again.

Apparently I was in the middle of playing Supernova during the campaign when I quit.

Fun times. >_>

but HOW?

No comment on the question here?

On a different note, does Kerrigan's Zerg form's heel-like structures and the fact that she does engage in personal combat make her qualify for Combat Stilettos? I'll admit that I'm only working on hearsay about her engaging in some badass melee in Heart of the Swarm after attaining her Primal Zerg form.

They even managed to make probes look badass. Nice.

[up] Yes, she counts for Combat Stilettos. Not sure about Heinz Hybrid.

Out of your four propositions, Mix-and-Match Man is the closest one to Kerrigan, but I wouldn't say it is perfect (she is not artificial). She would be whatever the trope for Body Horror gone right is.

As for your other question, I seem to remember her favoring claws when fighting (at least if her animation is to be believed). Or blowing everything up with psychic powers. Or using her wings, if the opponent is Mengsk. I don't think she kicked during her HOTS cinematics either (like against Narud), because to be honest a kick is downright lame when you see what she is capable of.

The opening cinematic was really great, I had to say that at first I did not realize we were seeing a probe warping a pylon, the fake Bolivian Army Ending plan was awesome. And that Ultralisk vs. Archon duel!

Although I watched it during the WCS broadcast, and for the first time there will be a non-korean qualified for the Blizzcon. Some of the games were absolutely epic, the winner pulled a number of insane comebacks during games that he seemed to have lost.

[up] I doubt that, since that guy is a Zealot (twin psionic blades and all that). He may be a Tychus-like character in the campaign (after all, Tychus was supposed to be "a marine", like Raynor actually), or he will just become a Memetic Badass thanks to the trailer.

The model for Artanis on the official site has him with both eyes.

@Discar & Julep: What about Uneven Hybrid? Can it be applicable?

And AFAIK, Combat Stilettos don't exactly require you to kick with your high-heeled feet, just that you're engaging in combat with them.

Considering they're technically a part of her body Kerrigan could probably grow a razor-sharp shard of bone out of a stiletto mid-kick or something.

After coming out of the opening, I'm worried about the November 10 release date. Why? Because it feels like they're rushing Legacy of the Void like they did with Heart of the Swarm.

Kerrigan is not exactly the result of Interspecies Romance, so I don't know. It may fit but she goes back and forth between both ends - full human, then full-zerg, then mostly human, then mostly zerg.

[up] Campaign-wise maybe, but the beta has been out for quite a few months.

It is Starcraft, it will be unbalanced on day 1, tears will be shed, hate will be posted, "imba" will be said a lot and David Kim's mother will be insulted.

A few months will not change anything. Right now, the best and most innovative players are still on HOTS so the metagame will need some time to settle - better to give it before the competitive scenes switches to LOTV.

Actually a lot of the competitive scene is already switching to LOTV, there are a lot of tournament streams and such with big name players going on including it.

Not the biggest names. In a few days GSL and SSL will have ended, and only Blizzcon will remain, which means that aside from 16 players, everyone will probably switch to LOTV. But you can't hope for the metagame to mean anything without those 16 when you see who will be attending - Life, Maru or Parting are pretty much able to singlehandedly switch the meta with their gameplay and innovative strategies, while Byul, herO or Innovation are the ones that perfect the builds everyone ends up copying.

And Blizzcon, not coincidentally, happens on Nov 6 and 7. Once everyone can safely switch, LOTV comes out.

Campaign-wise maybe

But didn't the consequences of releasing Heart of the Swarm early be not mentioning what happened to Ariel Hansen and omitting more hints that Duran Lime was really Samir Duran.
