You know Atlus

Some women actually have normal bra sizes

And some people actually like those kind of women

One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -Landstander

It's not the size of the breasts that's the problem so much; they jut out in an unnatural way

Wait, aren't they supposed to only be in High School? daamn.

That aside, still can't wait for the game.

...Sigh. That's the problem with the Most Common Superpower, I guess...

Back problems aside, I do like how most of the characters look overall. Are they Expies, or the actual Survivors...? I mean, I'll be surprised if that isn't Naoya, but are the others, like, really Atsuro and everyone else, or AU counterparts, or what? I can't connect all of them to all the Survivors, but damn if that doesn't look like an Emo!Atsuro, or crazy-eyed Tadashi.

And helllooo, Pinstripe!Junpei. Too bad you're probably evil. Rowr.

...And damnit, Glasses Girl! All the others at least are fairly well covered; why the heck are you wearing just a couple black flaps! You're not Jeane, you know!

Erm, so large as to look lop sided... >_O

And these must be a generation of look a likes or Haru's chest grew three times larger that day. wild mass guessNaoya isn't the only one who reincarnates, all of the playable characters (and Haru, though minus Black Frost) have been constantly warring with each other for several hundreds (or thousands) of generations to fulfill their own goals. What follows is that each character is probably some important figure from the Bible.wild mass guess

EDIT: Also, I can't seem to make a connection between any of them and Amane. Bwwwaaaahhhhh...

The first three characters are, but we don't know about the rest.

It's probably a mix of high school and older. The grey headed short guy could POSSIBLY be younger than the rest.

Wait, how old was Kaido in DS 1?

I think Kaido was 19. I think Mari and Gin were the oldest ones in the first game, and I suppose Naoya was too, though I don't think an age was ever given for him (well, for this iteration, at least).

For this cast, yeah I do wonder how many of these characters are expies and which aren't. Aside from "I'm totally not Naoya", the next two people are pretty much dead ringers for Yuzu and Atsuro, the gray-haired kid looks like a juvenille delinquent version of Kaido, the Stripperiffic woman bears a resemblence to Midori, and the grim-looking uniformed woman looks like Shoji, though that's probably just artstyle simularities.

Okay, looks like Siliconera has a bit more info about four of the characters we've seen art of already... Yamato, Makoto, Fumi and Otome. So maybe the Expies are just expies...? Even if the resemblance is staggering in some cases... I still think Yamato looks too much like Naoya to not be him. Sure, White Haired Pretty Boys might not be rare in JRP Gs, but come on.

Also, Japanese site is up, if you feel like listening to the music or clicking around a bit. Looks like they might add more tracks to listen to along with the updates.

...The more I look at the MC's design, the more I like it. Probably since I just like the colors blue and white, but still... Now that you can actually see he's carrying some sort of music player instead of a Wii-stick ripoff, it makes a little more sense. Still a shame you can't pick his gender, but whatever. My MC will just be the only flat girl in the game, apparently. Along with the obvious.

Is it wrong that I'm hoping that if we have to have a token complainer this time around, that it'll be Daichi, not Io? I mean, as much as I sympathized with Yuzu, damn if she wasn't hard to tolerate sometimes — and I say that fully getting where she was coming from and feeling sorry for her. Maybe it's just that Io seems cool so far, and I'd hate to see her shoehorned into the "OMG WTF I DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING" role. It'd be a shame if Daichi had to handle all of that like Yuzu did, but... meh.

One of the Septentrion looks like an ice cream cone. That's going to be a little awkward to fight against.

[up][up]Holy shit, those things named after constellations are much, much bigger than I thought; the thing is nearly twice as tall as Zearth.

I'm also wishing they pull off an I Just Want to Be Normal character without falling into The Complainer Is Always Wrong (even though I could also sympathize with Yuzu).

We have seen Daichi getting freaked a few times, so if there is a pure expy of Yuzu it'll probably be him

With the Deal with the Devil aspect, I'd be surprised if there wasn't some regret going on by the endgame. Hopefully it won't become anyone's primary characterization. Never been a fan of having the same point repeated over and over and over again, either.

Like the "Death Dial" constantly hanging over your head that you see in every single scene that's constantly reminding you over and over again that you're going die in X days? Actually, don't think that really characterized anyone. Fair enough.

Anyway, who wants to bet we're all going to be egged on that the Naoya looking guy is Cain only for it to have a sudden subversion?

[up] Actually, I meant like how Yuzu doesn't seem to grasp concepts like "We've locked down the entire Yamanote Loop" meaning that the entire Yamanote Loop has been locked down. Or having her literally override the MC when he's like "Okay, Atsuro, you've explained enough about this subject already" and having her say "I don't understand; explain it again!" and forcing the player to sit through yet another rehash of the exact same information. Of being told over and over and over again that "Running away = BAD END" only for her to be utterly shocked when the exact things you were told were going to happen if you ran actually happen if you run. When you understand something the first time you hear it, having to sit through it fifty more times or so gets old real fast. Add in the fact you'll be running through the whole thing again if you want to see any of the other Multiple Endings and... yeah.

...Actually, it'd be funny if Naoya showed up late in the game and was all "You stole my gimmick, you bastard!" at Yamato.

I must be the only person who liked Yuzu. While I can certainly understand how people didn't like her, she struck me as having a bit more realism to her than the other characters if only because she panicked and was scared. This is a major disaster going with demons running about and people killing each other and the first thing she thinks of is how to get out alive, not "We can be super heroes!". I actually found her to a very sympathetic anti-hero to contrast Atsuro's overly idealistic tendencies and his need to jump at the call. Plus, yeah, Yuzu's not that smart, but she's not the brick that people make her out to be.

I totally got where Yuzu was coming from, don't get me wrong. But as a combination of The Watson and The Complainer Is Always Wrong with unhealthy doses of Viewers Are Morons and Viewers Are Goldfish, she wound up grating my nerves a lot. Obviously, given how I keep whining about it. tongue It's a flaw with the game that is all too easily blamed on her, even though that's not fair to her at all. She goes so much cutie-breaking it's amazing she's not reduced to a gibbering mess by the end...

I just hope whoever gets saddled with being the guide to the worst ending this time around doesn't end up cast in the same light, you know?

I've been playing Strange Journey and don't really know anything about the series as a whole; how does it compare? I guess the other ones aren't dungeon crawlers? (from my perspective, that's kinda disappointing...) I don't have a PS 2 so looks like a lot of the series is closed off to me.

Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODE

Most of the series is dungeon crawlers. Devil Survivor is a spin off series that happens to be a turn based strategy RPG and is radically different from the rest of the series in terms of gameplay. While the earlier games are mostly first person view like Strange Journey, the games on the PS 2 tend to also be dungeon crawling heavy except with a third person view.

Trailer. Reveals the locales and the full names of all the currently named characters. Don't know what the music's like since I'm at work right now.

Music's partly your typical foreboding piece, then goes into the same song that's on the Japanese website. Looks like that's probably the main theme.

Interesting how people keep assuming there's going to be an Overclocked-style port in the (near?) future. Hope that doesn't impact sales too much.
