Who you are does not matter.
Perhaps gently, but I doubt it.

I must say, I'm slightly amused that none of you seem to be sure.

Well, I wasn't the original poster so I can't verify that mockery was not in fact intended. However if I had been saying that I don't think I would have said it with mockery, and I don't recall that my approval incorporated mockery as part of my understanding at the time, so by induction it seems likely to me that mockery was not involved.

I didn't think I was mocking when I said it but now you guys have me wondering...

Writer's block, writer's block! I got around 2, 122 words in a period of 1.5 hours. Not too bad.

Somehow every story I start writing starts with a teenager or very young adult of some sort having a late afternoon or night run in a solitary area while mediating on their popularity among their peers and the fact that they go out of their way to suppress themselves and that the person others like isn't the real them. Then they have a fortuitous and completely unexpected encounter with a Manic Pixie Dream Boy/Girl of some sort, who breaks them into a Maskerade. The next chapter is usually an infodump of some sort, usually presented the form of consulting a talking encyclopedia, la Snow Crash, but not nearly as well-written. Then the story gets stuck there because I have no idea what to do next.

The only story where I have the slightest idea were to continue is this one, but that's because I can easily rip off amusing and interesting events from the lives of actual famous dictators.
I stayed up all night, 'cause I wanted to see where the sun wentand then it dawned on me.

Sounds like you need to come up with some new ideas.

I really wish the Troll Post thing didn't happen, because now I can't make sense of a large portion of a thread.

@The Handle: So presuming that your protagonist is now in the Masquerade, does he try to get out of it (and most likely have something drag him back in), or does he dive right in (and get tangled into conflict)?

Alternatively, what does the girl do with the protagonist? Drag him in, or push him out?

Um, Could I ask for some help with characterisation?
I've been writing up some stuff for somebody's personality and I've just had the sinking feeling that I've fallen into the "Badass Action Girl that doesn't take crap from anybody" routine...

So I sort of need a second opinion.

So, I've got a large team of heroes and seven major villains, who formed a group known as Pleiades. The members of Pleiades are the seven sisters of the hero who represents Taurus. I'm just wondering how any family could possibly produce seven evil sisters and one mild-mannered Nice Guy.

[up]Developed the personality to avoid pissing off and/or being associated with said sisters?

[up][up]Without details, there's not a damn thing we can do to help. Still, I hate to say it, but... if you're worried you've fallen into a cliche, odds are, you're right. Hell, at least you're paying attention enough to notice.

That's true. It's been about a day now since I wrote anything for this and I've decided I want to restart anyway so I might play around with the concept a little more to see if I can't get a workable character out of it. If in the process I start feeling cold and helpless and alone I'll check back in waii

[up][up][up] In general Taurus's family can be rather bad. The kind of personalities their parents had, fostered rather unpleasant personalities in children. However, some children are very different from their parents - sometimes as a rebellion, sometimes they're genuinely different. Perhaps Taurus just went against his evil sisters as seeing their evil from outside, he decided he didn't like it.

So, the members of Pleiades all come from a very old, very traditional family of witches, and just like a Cute Witch from a super-duper old Magical Girl show, they go around doing what they think is the right thing, except what Pleiades thinks is the right thing is in stark contrast to what most everyone else thinks is the right thing, so to everyone else, it just looks like they're spreading havoc and anarchy.

Road block: I can't figure out just what Pleiades' nefarious activities are.

Hmm. Perhaps they've decided that the root cause of a problem is totally different to what it actually is?

Or do they care excessively about minor things, like, say, going around confiscating crocs because they're ugly shoes.
Be not afraid...

[up][up] Maybe they're Well-Intentioned Extremist and believe in The Evils of Free Will, so they try to enslave people "for their own good"?

Edit: I listed two tropes and originally failed at linking either. Yay me.

Guys, the main character of my Urban Fantasy Werewolf Epic seems to be gay.
Are there any pitfalls I need to watch out for whilst writing him? I was probably going to carry on as is but I want to make sure I don't fall into any Unfortunate Implications.
