[up] Let it cool a tad. You don't need it boiling. Butter melts at a pretty low temperature. Lower than your body temp actually.

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

Tried a recipe for chocolate cake in a mug.

I only used three tablespoons of sugar and subbed in cinnamon for cocoa. The adjusted taste was just the right level of sweetness, but the texture was dry and rubbery. I'm thinking it's a mix of my microwave and the batter being too thick. More milk and less flour next time.

Euo will do!
[up]Hmmmm: you have a good point, there. Some people still try to tell me that microwaves are not as idiosyncratic as individual ovens.

Not in my experience, they're not. tongue I've no idea where people get that notion from.

Is that cake frosting?
Currently trying to prepare (vegetarian) chili. Never did that before, and I kinda looked at a few recipes and then improvised with what I had in the fridge. Dunno how it'll come out, but well, generally if you put edible things in you get edible things out tongue
But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.

[up] That reminds me that I never had a nice chili before. Gotta try.

For breakfast I just had a bowl of cereal. For lunch, two slice of barley bread, three pieces of bacon, and a (botched) boiled egg.

Ooh, I've been meaning to try a recipe for vegetarian chili.

I like chili, and it's getting close to chili weather. There are zillions of chili's out there in the world I like most of them except Cincinnati chili. It scares me.

Rice is awesome, yes. grin

Wild rice is so expensive. But it is tasty. I also like rice mixed with chili. And red beans and rice. Something about dirty rice doesn't work for me, I have trouble with the flavor foundation of creole food.

How does it taste?

I like using lemons and limes in cooking; my problem is that if I buy them in the Costco bags half go all dried out and brown before I use them. So I'm trying freezing the zest and juice to keep it that way. I'm starting with limes; and have found that, quite reliably, three limes make half a cup of juice and that fills four cubes of an icecube tray. The lemons don't look their best at the moment, so I'll wait on those until I see good ones out.

Probably going to make shortbread cookies tomorrow, one of the kids has asked. I'm going to use cake flour and see how that turns out, it should make them very crumbly I think.

I also need to make stock, my freezer has entirely too many bags of bones saved from this 'n that in it. Used the last of the previous batch making an onion potato soup the other night, and it came out much too thick. Probably because I used baking potatoes, as I didn't feel like going shopping for red ones or yukon golds. Tasted good, but was the consistency of runny mashed taters instead of creamy soup.

Euo will do!
[up]That's the problem with potatoes: there's practically one for every occasion... and use the wrong one... and things can go belly-up very quickly. <hugs>

My family freezes lemon juice in ice cubes all the time. It's certainly convenient.

Passionfruit ice cubes can also be good.

Rice is life! I feel slightly weird when I don't eat rice at some point during a day.

It took me a long time to discover what "chili" as a dish meant. I first read about it in American Gods, and pictured the main character eating...well, a pile of chillis.

Depending on the cook chili can contain a pile of chillis. I like mine hot but not nuclear hot. I also throw in some grated orange peel.

@booky: Like angels singing. I candied it with brown sugar and maple, and it just goes perfect with the saltiness of the bacon.

Urgh... forgot to de-juice the onions before popping them into the salad. Now, I'm all repeat, repeat, repeat... tongue

I'm going to try making shashuka because I really like poached eggs and tomatoes.

Highfive! I felt alright when I went almost a month without a rice, though. Still, having them is nice. I tend to get a lot of rice in buffet, the hell with what everyone else says.

I first read about it in American Gods,

Another highfive.

Today, I went to a Chinese buffet. Chicken chicken chicken.
