"Not Neutral Enough". Not that the referenced time period would actually take offense, but mentioned in the page is the fact that back in The '80s, writers acted like it was still The '60s, and that Still The Nineties will probably be up for consideration some time this decade. Thus, this should be renamed "Twenty Year Cycle", or similar.

Fixed the link for you: FYI, article titles in forum posts need to be written as a Wiki Word and pages in Main don't need the namespace designator.

I like Twenty Year Cycle.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

I think the issue with this trope's name was brought up earlier, but regardless, there is now a single proposition rename crowner for it here.

I apologize for doubleposting, but I did not want this thread to be forgotten. There is now an alternative titles crowner for this trope here. Feel free to add names as you see fit.

Bump - anyone else want to comment, vote, add names??? 4-2 with only one proposal isn't that much of a consensus.

Bump. 11:5 in favor of Twenty Year Cycle, no other name options. Submitting a custom title request now.

Not "cycle". That would just make the trope seem like something else. This trope is about being a couple decades behind the times for a show, not being in something cyclical.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

Yeah, cycle implies something very different. It implies, for instance, the trend of fashions returning after 20 years. Or (do we have this?) shows and movies set two decades earlier (Happy Days, Grease, The Wonder Years, That70s Show, A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, Everybody Hates Chris...)

And now that I read the page, the intro seems to allude to this. It also alludes to the equally irrelevant concept of reboots after 20 years to play to nostalgia. But the actual concept is about unhip writers creating worlds that are 20 years out of date... so 20YearsBehind? Two Decades Behind? Or something with the word "lag"?

Well it's more specific than that. It's that shows lag behind, and the name should indicate that.

Still The Eighties and Twenty Year Cycle are now redirects for Two Decades Behind, the wicks should be fixed, I sent a report to move the discussion page, and there are notes about the change on the Renamed Tropes page and in the renamed tropes thread.

While checking the wicks, I found what seemed to me to be a decent amount of misuse of the trope for something related to The '80s or characters who seemed to be The '80s personified. I took those examples out when I saw them, but it is possible that I missed a few.

I edited Two Decades Behind's description to make it more neutral in the hopes that that will discourage some of that kind of misuse. I also snipped the page quote since it talked about a series that started in the late Eighties and continued on to the Nineties as exhibiting a lot of Eighties features. I figured that was not really what the trope was about, but if someone disagrees I would be glad to hear about it and potentially revert the page.

I think I might have rushed this a bit though, so if anyone would like to check my work here, I would appreciate it.
