iPod or MP3 Player?:

1 Redneck Rocker, Sun, 27th Feb '11 11:10:46 AM from None Of Your Business

Well, I'm gonna finally take the plunge, since I don't think this technology is immoral, unlike a certain individual I know who'll remain nameless *cough*brother*cough*. I know, I know; I'm years behind the rest of the world, making me a geezer. Let's move on.

The thing is, I'm not sure if I should go for an iPod or a generic MP3 player. Suggestions, recommendations?

There's no such thing as a generic MP3 player. Each company making them has its own quirk.

Anything but an iPod.
I guess it is.
I have a Creative Zen that's served me well for several years without breaking. So much so that it's the only MP3 player I've ever had - I've never needed to replace it

My old Sansa was very reliable, but I don't know much about other brands.

It still works like new after 3-ish years, although I'm using an iPod right now—I'd rather not because I hate having to use iTunes instead of being able to drag and drop files directly, but I ran out space in the Sansa (which was a 2 gig one.)

Also, Apple products are annoying because their names automatically WikiWord here.

If you like doing other things on your mp3 player and cost is not an issue, go with an iPod touch. Those things are amazing, in my opinion. If you only want music, use a generic mp3 player. I got an i Pod nano and I almost wish I didn't so I could just use Windows Media Player instead of i Tunes(but back when I got it generic mp3 players usually were crappy).

I'm just looking for one for music. As I said, I'm completely inexperienced with MP3 technology. When you see somebody you know buy 15 C Ds in a single week, it's time to start thinking about upgrading.

I would also recommend Creative ZEN. Solid stuff.

Yeah, I've had a Creative ZEN for a good six years now and it's good as new.

As an ipod owner. I rather have an mp3 player, you can charge it on different computers and keep your friggin' settings. Scratch that, you can just keep your friggin' settings.

iPod Touch. I can't think of anything wrong with it besides the price tag.

An iPod Nano. It's held up pretty well for the past few years, but it has been acting somewhat oddly lately.

A-HYUK!
I'd recommend the iPod Nano.

For about $20 less than a Nano, you can get a Sony Walkman with the same amount of storage that doesn't dictate your media player choices, works as a backup device, allows you to transfer music to and from multiple computers, has really good battery life* , and even looks like a (pre-6G) Nano.

Mine's been a trooper. Just don't drop it constantly.

I do drop my Walkman constantly, and it still works great.
I guess it is.

iPod. I had a nano that only lasted for a year, but that was because I accidentally left it in my jeans and then put those jeans in the washer. If I hadn't done that, I would still be using it with no problem now, which would make a total of three years.

My iPod Shuffle works perfectly fine and I've never had any charging problems.
I DESPISE ITUNES

The store kind of sucks, but the organisational system is convenient and aesthetically pleasing.

Sloving cases one by one
I choose the Ipod over the MP3 anyday.

iPods are MP3 players. The only difference between an iPod and any other MP3 player is that it forces you to use a shitty media player, can't be used as a backup device, and has an Apple logo on it. The third one, of course, is the only thing that matters in terms of getting people to buy them.
I guess it is.

[up] Or in some peoples cases, the only reason people choose not to buy them. wink

I'm completely willing to buy an Apple product, so long as it's reasonably priced, actually better than the competition, and doesn't completely stifle my ability to do what I want with it. In other words, I'll buy an Apple product when hell freezes over, but it's hardly due to an irrational hate-on for the company.
