Friend of mine says they're having commitment issues from Johnny Depp in the Frank Morgan role.

This is one of the worst ideas for a movie ever.

Except for 4/1/2011. That day lingers in my memory like...metaphor here...I should go.

Now who are they planning on replacing Margaret Hamilton? She scared the pants off me as a kid; how are they planning on replicating that?

I wonder if her students ever mixed her up with her character.

They should hand it to Tim Burton, so he can add a pointless, LOTR-style fantasy battle to it.

[up] I realize you're joking, but a Wizard Of Oz adaptation directed by Tim Burton would be awesome.

That's what I thought about his Alice movie, before I saw it. Though, it was so unlike Burton's usual style that I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot Executive Meddling to cash in on the current trend of epic style fantasy movies.

Boo to that, I want my Nightmare Fuel and Mind Fuck version based on the original book.

I wouldn't think this is too bad of an idea if they decided to base it more on the book rather than just following the original 1939 movie, which took quite a bit out. I want to see the Hammer-Heads.

To be honest, I thought the fantasy battle might have been Disney's doing, given all the focus those were given in the Narnia films. It really seemed out of place in a Burton movie.

I'll believe it when I see proof, namely reputable links talking about the project.

It's kind of funny how up until now The Wizard Of Oz has been this sacred cow that no one is allowed to remake. I would like to see one done more like the book, especially after the 70+ years of Adaptation Displacement its suffered.

The weird thing is that Wizard of Oz the book gets a lot respect overseas while it's almost forgotten in America. Sad really, since it's America's first Fairy Tale.

I do remember there is a Soviet version of Oz but it some interesting changes to the plot.

I wonder if this will kill (or heavily disable) the concept of the remake?

I'm more with an Oz movie that actually leads to adaptations of the Oz book sequels. I always wanted the Nome King to try to take Princess Ozma's Oz or see Scraps the Patchwork girl to weird out people with her nonsense.

The only thing I've heard about this is that they were considering Lea Michelle for the role of Dorothy. Personally, I think she's the only current actress who could even come close to being as good as Judy was.

I can't see Dorothy as sounding like a bad Celine Dion clone. I suggest getting an unknown for Dorothy.
