Using As Many Tropes As Possible:

Tired.
I just figured that it would be fun writing a work that will contain as many tropes as possible, or at least 3, 000. My question is, what kind of genre and medium would be better? I'm currently thinking about Urban Fantasy Manga/Anime with Fantasy Kitchen Sink setting and different arcs focusing on different issues. Any idea?

Have a look at the Trope Overdosed page.

... Give up?

Bout the only suggestion I can give.

Do NOT base a work on the Tropes.

It would have to be a Genre Roulette, clearly.
Swords are for wimps
tropes are tools

really bad idea to use every single trope here. sure, you could do it, but the execution is the important thing, not the content, so odds are, you'd be so focused on including every thing, you'd have a miserable work to show for the effort

If using every trope here is the actual concept behind the story, what's wrong with that? It could at the very least be an interesting intellectual exercise.
[up] Mhdeed. I'm going to say ignore the 'give up' requests — let's see how this turns out waii

agreeing with bobby and QQQQ, but it seems like an almost insurmountable challenge

Heh, I know. I'm not basing my work on Tropes. That would be sillysuicidal. XD So far, I have figured out the way to use every single tropes from Badass and Hidden Badass page, which together seems to at least over 200 tropes? Since I have Fourth wall breaking Genre Savvy Meta Guy, maybe not using, but just discussing or lampshading tropes work in my book. XD

Intentionally building your work to use as many Tropes as possible is a treacherous path.

[up] Lulz. No disrespect intended. Anyway, just the idea of using as many tropes as possible sounds bloody damn interesting for me. tongue

Yes.

But then you remember that you have to actually build a story around them.

And 3000 tropes is... Very tricky.

How would you use all the ones that contradict each other? Like Bury Your Gays and Free-Love Future.

Da Rules excuse all the inaccuracy in the world. Listen to them, not me.
Tired.
I already have 1, 200 tropes so far, and like I said before, I'm not, at least not completely, building story around the tropes. [up] *shrugs* Dunno. Those are not one of 1.2k.

Also, I think that when you people talk about tropes, you are thinking in a too broad and narrative terms. When I say 3k, I think many of them would consist more minor tropes, like Beam Spam, Blank White Eyes, Harsh Word Impact, Heterosexual Life-Partners, something like that.

Every single trope? May Heaven have mercy on your soul.

I am very misleading: I was trying to say As many tropes as possible but I typed wrong....

[up] In my current draft, yes what you mentioned all include. Yes. All of them. But very small numbers are actually played straight; they are more averted, subverted, defied, discussed, and lampshaded.

If you can do it and pull it off, you're one of the most skilled writers in history. Thing is, it would be so genre breaking you wouldn't be able to use a single genre. If I looked it up on the internet my computer would explode because it wouldn't be able to figure out genre it is.

You'd have to include schizo tech, medivel europe, space, distaff counterparts, spear counter parts, to do this it would require Loads And Loads of Characters, which is also a trope.

Tired.
[up] Thank you for the idea. Yes, Loads and Loads of Characters, is indeed, one of the very first 100 tropes I instantly thought of. Now, the only tropes I can't use well are those related to Time Travel. They tended to make my head hurts. Well, guess I'll have to pull Ken Akamatsu and Tanigawa Nagaru.

Come to think of it, Genre-Busting will be inevitable if I managed to pull what I'm planning to. XD

Ah! Just participating in this forum itself gave me another 100 tropes I can use!

Ah, so you're not quite as mad as I thought. That said, this will end poorly. I would wager my bottle of 1800 Aņejo upon it. But I shall make no efforts to dissuade you: experience is the best teacher. If you learn something from this quaint project, your efforts will have been all worthwhile.

I can help with time travel. Bring two cavemen in from the past and use them as comedy interest.

Apparently, The Order of the Stick is attempting to do the same thing. So the result doesn't necessarily have to suck if you try this.
If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done.

I don't want to sound like I'm clicheing myself but: is the lead going to be female?

It would have to be male AND female. Remember Distaff Counterpart? I find that trope a bit creepy.

Something along the lines of the Illuminatus Trilogy or Hitchhikers Guide would leave a lot of room for anything to happen. So you are looking at a science fiction or fantastical angle, although it could be set circa 2011 + or - 25 years.
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you are probably right.
