Just got a robo-call from Tom Barrett

There's a right-wing group spreading information that because someone signed a recall-petition, they do not have to vote tomorrow. This is A Lie.

Has Barret held steady at his -7% or has it changed?

The latest batch of polls:

  • WI-GOV (Angus Reid): Gov. Scott Walker (R) 51, Tom Barrett (D) 46
  • WI-GOV (Garin-Hart-Yang for Barrett): Gov. Scott Walker (R) 48, Tom Barrett (D) 48
  • WI-GOV (PPP): Gov. Scott Walker (R) 50, Tom Barrett (D) 47
  • WI-GOV (We Ask America—R): Gov. Scott Walker (R) 54, Tom Barrett (D) 42

FYI, here are the last pre-2010-election polls:

  • PPP: Walker +9 (Walker defeats Barrett 52%-43%)
  • Marist: Walker +7 (Walker defeats Barrett 51%-44%)
  • Rasmussen: Walker +10 (Walker defeats Barrett 52%-42%)

The result was Walker defeated Barrett 52%-47%.

More numbers:

  • Walker votes in 2010: about 1.12 million
  • Barrett votes in 2010: about 1 million
  • Mc Cain votes in 2008: about 1.2 million
  • Obama votes in 2008: about 1.7 million
  • recall petition signatures against Walker: about 1.08 million (that's just signatures, not votes)
  • people who voted in 2008 but not 2010: about 0.8 million

Also FYI one pro-Barrett group has said that they reached over 200,000 voters in a day. If you want I can try to dig up the source of that.

...we are so screwed.

Oh well. I shall attempt to convince my parents to go anyhow. I can probably get my mother to vote, at any rate.

I'll be surprised if all four senators hold onto their seats, though I guess I haven't really seen the district map.

Obviously, in order to undo the damage, the Dems need both a win in the senate and to retake the governorship, which strikes me as unlikely, but just a win in the senate means they can stop the Republican's radicalized agenda.

If you're doing GOTV, remember to be ready to dispel these myths:

1. "need to live here for 90 days" - no, it's 28 days: http://gab.wi.gov/node/2242

2. "need photo ID" - no, that part of the law has been suspended in court. Just need to sign next to your name on the poll list: http://gab.wi.gov/node/2242

3. "signing the petition is enough, you've done your part" - no, signing a petition is NOT a vote. You still need to vote!

If you haven't voted yet, GO VOTE FOR BARRETT AND MITCHELL!

Voted. I didn't encounter any problems, but I live in a solidly republican part of the state, so I doubt they'd try to keep their supporters from voting.

Wow, after all these shenanigans I think Wisconsin needs to be put under as much observation for voter fraud on the part of government officials as Florida and the like are.

But I don't think Wisconsin is one of the handful of states that get special treatment under the Voting Rights Act.

I voted. Somewhat interestingly, the "A-K" last names (to which I belong) had a fairly short line, but the "L-Z" names were backed up to the door. I have no idea why.

[up] No, we don't. Yet.

That's why I said "needs to be put" RI. This blatant disrespect of voter rights should get them in there already, and if they continue I can see someone petitioning for such a thing.

[up]Probably just timing, Lin. Maybe the A though Ks all did their voting early.

Well, actually, I hear the DOJ (the federal gov't's Department of Justice) has election observers in either Milwaukee County or Waukesha County. Don't remember which off the top of my head.

And one of us over at IJBM finally got around to vote! Props to Alkthash!

Nearly a quarter of results in, and it's not looking good. Walker is up 61%-38%.

I sure hope those were mostly Republican districts, because that's a shockingly big lead for Walker even to me.

[up][up] This doesn't necessarily mean much. Milwaukee's only reported 8% of the vote, while some of the Milwaukee exurbs (and Republican sinks) have reported 50% or more. Exit polls are showing this one to be very close.

Personally, I'm more worried that the counties along the Mississippi river seem to be breaking red — that's normally blue-collar Democratic territory, and I'm not sure how they win the recall if they go Republican.

On the other other hand, turnout is through the roof. I've seen reports of 119%(!) voting in Madison, due to same-day registrations (which are allowed in Wisconsin). Which would obviously be a good thing, if you're a Barrett supporter.

At this point I'm just hoping that Barrett doesn't lose in a blowout, because then I would never hear the end of it.
