Honestly, I'm in agreement with FDR about unions in the public sector(from Daniel Disalvo):

Even President Franklin Roosevelt, a friend of private-sector unionism, drew a line when it came to government workers: “Meticulous attention,” the president insisted in 1937, “should be paid to the special relations and obligations of public servants to the public itself and to the Government….The process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service.” The reason? F.D.R. believed that “[a] strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to obstruct the operations of government until their demands are satisfied. Such action looking toward the paralysis of government by those who have sworn to support it is unthinkable and intolerable.”

And thus, I think the teacher's union should shut up about collective bargaining and do their damned jobs...

And I wouldn't disagree with that point, but I'm inclined to be skeptical about claims of widespread union privilege abuse, given the state of unemployment in this country. It's suspiciously similar to points about welfare abuse. IOW, I'm willing to believe it happens, but we've got plenty of bigger fish to fry right now, and most of the bigger fish are looking for handy scapegoats.

Yeah, the tactics are always Demonization of the opposition backed up by a lot of rhetoric and advertising. No wonder why I hate politics. little room for rational thought or debate in good faith.

Well, considering that the game called politics actually does affect you, you might want to learn how to sort through the nonsense, become a truly informed voter, and vote strategically.

So you can help prevent stupid things like Governor Scott Walker from happening.

Thats where statistics come in. And a microphone.

Yeah, this is wandering pretty far off-topic. Whether teachers should have unions is one thing, and tangentially related to the topic. The ratio of good teachers to bad ones and what makes a good or bad teacher is not.

Make a new thread for that if you want to.

...I can't help but wonder why Swish's post got to stay, while my response noting the irony of that post in the current political climate was thumped.

Because yours was about politics and the political climate, not teachers. But this isn't on-topic, either.
