Which videogame bosses would you say had the most wasted potential?

Like you thought they had the best strategies to them to make them challenging. But too bad the creators didn't give them enough health or attack power. Otherwise they would have been one of the best bosses.

I'm saying the Krakken from fable 1 ^^. Inverted would probably be Demyx from Kingdom Hearts 2 in my honest opinion.

Hera from God Of War 3 should have been a boss. Gaia/Zeus should have been harder too. And, you know, involved Gaia.

Hermes should have hit a little harder too. The flashy kicks were cool though.

I haven't finished Front Mission Evolved yet, but most of the bosses in the game have too much health. Once I figured out their attack patterns, I just went through the motions for the next ten to fifteen minutes, bored out of my mind. There's been one boss fight so far that didn't feel like it was dragging on. One. If the bosses get tedious, you know the designers have done something wrong.

I thought Fable 2's final boss... not the "Shoot the bad guy in one hit and he's dead" element, that was quite clever really. I thought you'd get to engage in a harrowing battle up from floor one of the spire to the top, fighting legions of enemies on the way, to stop Lucien from firing up the spire and destroying everything. Maybe even persuade the various regions to help stop Lucien and charge with the rest of the peoples of Albion behind you in the process. Instead it just warps you to the last floor!

I don't know, maybe that would've ruined the whole atmosphere.

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.

The Hive Tyrant Alpha at the end of the Dawn Of War II campaign, it was a fucking joke. Though they made it up and then some with Ulkair in the expansion.

The final boss from Sonic Colors. Great boss, but his gimmick is using the colors against you. Despite there being 7 different colors, I've only ever seen him use four of those. A little more health, and more attack patterns, and he'd be just amazing.

Also, Keka from Final Fantasy VI. He's the tail end of a Boss Rush of sorts, but even so, his health is a bit low for a final boss. Also, he's got a move that should be more powerful than the ultimate magic available to the heroes, but it doesn't ignore defenses and split damage, which makes it laughably weak for the buildup associated with it. Nix that nerf, and it'd actually be something scary.

I have a message from another time...

All the bosses in the first Mass Effect except saren. The thorian? That giant psychic plant? You just fight waves of it's underlings to get to it's weak point then shoot them. Huzzah. Benezia? Superpowered Asari Biotic? Same thing.

Huge dissapointments. I was pleasantly surprised that the finale actually put up a proper fight.

[up][up]Funny I found both forms of Saren a joke, while I had a lot of trouble with those two (the Thorian in particular).

The final "boss" of the Path of Scylla in Hydorah. There's a humongous build up during the level, and then there's no actual boss at the end. Just a swarm of easily defeated mooks.

The final boss of Super Mario Galaxy 2. The scenery, the music, and Bowser's new set of attacks tell you that this is gonna be a great battle. It wasn't.

And for that matter, the final boss of Metroid Other M. After beating down countless Demonic Spiders and many That One Bosses, you'd think the final boss would give you as much of a challenge as before. Instead, you can literally defeat the boss in one shot. And to top it all off, you don't even land the final blow yourself! This is the same series that gave us the memorable encounter with Mother Brain in Super Metroid, as well as(in my opinion at least) the awesome freefall fight with Ridley in Metroid Prime 3. A final boss should be a test of what the player learned over the course of the game, and should make the player have a sense of satisfaction. It should not insult my intelligence and make me feel cheated out of What Could Have Been an awesome boss fight.

You obviously didn't try using Lift on Saren. He floats up like a giant pinata just like everything else in the game :|

The Lifevirus in Mega Man Battle Network. You can dodge all but one of its attacks by standing in a corner, and you're vastly overpowered due to plot coupon.

Oblivion.

The final Bowser fight in Super Mario Galaxy 2 initially made me think it was going to be like Yoshi's Island. Would have been much better if it did have that same feeling of desperation.

Saren's not immune to lift!? But he's on a floaty thingy already! Bah.

I stand by my comment though. He's the only boss in the game that actually takes you on personally instead of sendings waves of Mooks. Or a wave of dialogue. Well, i guess Fist does too. But chances are you don't even remember who he is.

Hell, bosses in general have been cruddy recently. It seems only the Player Character is allowed to be superhuman. Red Faction Guerilla had the last boss as... A dude in a tank. A Vocal Minority of fanboys had bosses removed from Halo3. And don't get me started on Fable3.

Galactus...just...just Galactus. Look, it's a fighting game. I get it. But on normal, he's too easy. Sure, he gives me a hard time once in a while, but I can mostly beat him without a problem.

Well, I thought Final Fantasy XII ended on a bit of a low note. While I did like the general atmosphere and most of the plot, the general stragegy for the final boss was "chase him across the room, switch the Attack and Magic gambits when needed, and don't waste any MP on flashy stuff like Quickenings". Quite repetitive, really.

Also, I finished Luminous Arc recently. The semifinal fight was quite challenging, what with the various minions that varied between magically and physically resistant that could charm and heal. But the final showdown allotted me plenty of time to charge up the energy needed for the Synergy specials, and when he managed to let a spell loose on my party, it was easy enough to heal in time. His first move was brutal, and I read somewhere that he could've teleport across the battlefield if he wanted to, but I found it was a piece of cake.

At the end of Half-Life 2, I was anticipating some kind of monstrous Breen-Combine cyborg mutant hybrid. Instead we got a bunch of metal... things, and some magic balls, or something.

^^ Agreed, I kicked Vayne's ass easily. I didn't think Vayne was a great antagonist, he just had little presence over all.

Also Saddler from RE 4. All the other bosses can be challenging in their own ways. You can take out Saddler with just a knife and he's the final boss. Even on Hard Saddler was pathetically easy. Krauser's fight felt more climatic.
