I'm having to learn to pay the price

[New Orleans], TS

-after having finished up his shower, Joseph settles in for bed. A few hours later, he wakes up-

-he forgot to turn off the lights. He used to sleep with the lights on, as a matter of fact; when he was a kid, he was afraid of the dark to the point where a night light wouldn't work. Ratty sleeps soundly on his chest. Tinny is perched on a bedpost, completely still. Puppet is sitting in his corner of the room, not sleeping, but sullenly refusing to be conscious-

Joseph: ...

-he gently moves Ratty off of his chest and climbs out of the big, cushy pink bed, sorting through his bag and procuring a piece of cheese and a bottle of root beer. The business with the witch made him forget how hungry he was, and he silently thanks the considerate owner of the Princesse des Ténèbres for giving him them-

-the night is beautiful viewed from the second floor balcony (in the back of his mind, Joseph wonders whether brothels usually have balconies; perhaps this was converted from a legitimate hotel). The street is muted from two stories up, but it's still rather busy. Joseph thinks about this as he chews on the piece of cheese, opening the bottle of root beer. Cities don't sleep-people talk about Castelia specifically, but Joseph can't remember a single city that WASN'T alive with some activity late at night. There were degrees to it, but there was always something. Even in a relatively small place like Striation, his hometown, there's some activity on the main street. Perhaps this was the main street of [New Orleans], Joseph thinks, peering at the large sign that reads "Bourbon Street"-

Joseph: Hmm. Bourbon Street.

-he finishes the cheese and begins to drink his root beer. The moon overhead is a waning crescent-soft and elegant, the city in moonlight-

Joseph: GLRK!

-he coughs, before swigging down the rest of the root beer. A memory of his father playing an old Sting CD in the car resurfaces, and he knows the danger of references-

Joseph: Ratty!

-the Rattata shakes himself awake before blinking-

Ratty: Hm...?

Joseph: He's here. We need to go.

-he dashes out the door, followed closely by Tinny, and then Ratty and Puppet-

Another green world.

Sergey: "Okay, now lets get ready for the finale, fourth batch, fire!"

Aicha used Flamethrower on the fourth batch of fuses.

Verax: -Raises an eyebrow- "There are several comments I want to make right now but I'm gonna restrain myself. But yes. If you're gonna be a butt, be a good butt. Advice to live by."

"... Wanna grab some cake and watch something?"

-The piano stops, looks at Dune and Big Dom, two large eyes explode out cartoonishly from the inside and it starts hobbling way at the pace of a speeding snail-

-The Sableye weh's and flails but resigns itself to its doom-

Jacob: -Walking into the basement, he throws off his coat, undresses, grabs a swimming suit from a handy dresser, and slumps into the heated pool-

-He sighs and relaxes-

"I think... I'm not sure if I should be jealous I didn't think of that, or glad we didn't both give you dresses" -Blitz said with a slightly teasing chuckle-

"It looks good on you! Planning on taking it out anywhere in particular?"

-Joseph runs downstairs at full speed, frantically looking at the Madame-

Joseph: Is there a back door out of here because we really need it.

-he didn't phrase it as a question, but she doesn't seem to mind-

Madame: Kitchen.

-he nods, then scrambles through the double doors, leading into the kitchen, the rest of his group in pursuit. A myriad of scents and tastes and noises reach his ears, even at this hour, but he doesn't notice. The only thing on his mind is getting out and running-

Joseph: Waterfront! Where is it?

-Ratty thinks for a split second, then points left. Joseph runs, and the rest follow-

-his breath is hot and heavy. His thick boots make loud, thudding noises on the sidewalk, sullying the soles with mud and grit and dirt. No street could be empty, why would it, it's a city, but this one looks clear enough, which makes a good path to run but makes him an obvious target for the Wolf whenever he caught sight, which wasn't an if but a when, how did this happen, how could he leave, why is he thinking when he should just run, just move as quick as he can, away from the stories and the dangers and the-

Wolf: Please don't run...

-that voice, low and smooth and teasing, comes from an alleyway. Joseph moves to run, but with an easy pounce the Wolf leaps in front of him and blocks his way-

Wolf: No more running, sweetheart. There's no need for all of this drama...

-Joseph tries the other direction; easily, the Wolf sticks his left arm out, blocking off any exit. Joseph's back presses against a cool, rough brick wall, and inches away is the Wolf. His breath is hot and thick, and starts to fog Joseph's mind as it creeps up and down his neck-

-Puppet stands still as a statue a few feet away; Ratty on his shoulder, Tinny on his head. His expression hasn't been anything but dour, but for the first time something resembling a deep, crawling fear creeps across his face-

Wolf: No need...for anything...but me...and you.

-warmth. A dense, suffocating warmth, surrounding him on all sides. Warm breath blowing across his face, warm body heat, animalistic and thick, pressing him against the brick wall. It's this horrid intimacy, this proximity to something that at times only felt like an abstract threat but takes only minutes to stare you in the face and make you its own. Dimly, Joseph is aware of Ratty clasping his paws together and muttering something, but paying attention to anyone but him feels like having something ripped off, and turning back feels like having it reattached. If there truly isn't any other way, then...-

Witch: Excuse me.

-that sudden intrusion of her voice, crackling and hoarse like a burning newspaper, snaps Joseph back to reality, and he furiously thrashes against the Wolf, howling like a spirit released from a bottle. Perhaps this sudden display of primal rage and terror startles the Wolf off of him, or perhaps it was the Witch's arrival, abruptly entering like a Gengar, but he backs up-

Witch: Thank you for the Patrat, incidentally. Consider this a thank you.

-she moves two fingers on her right hand, and her Mismagius arrives like a shrieking storm, the Wolf answering with his own snarling growl as the distraction begins-

Witch: Go.

-she doesn't need to say it twice. Ratty leaps from Puppet's shoulder to Joseph's, Tinny flutters a thank-you, and they run to the waterfront-

"No, I'm not planning to go out." she then sits down next to Blitz and leans on him a little "I just figured I could end the year looking good along with you." she giggles.

Sergey: "You know what, lets make this really big, batches 5 through 9, fire! After 4 seconds final batch, fire!"

Aicha: <Oh boy, that will be funny>

Magnus: <... oh boy, that will be loud.>

Aicha used Flamethrower on the 4 batches of fuses and after a bit of delay on the tenth and final one.

Sergey: "Now, MAKE THE NIGHT INTO A DAY!"

Countless rockets flew up in the sky, shaped like most of the gen 1 through 4 Pokémon, as in most if not all of them. After that four lonely rockets flew up, explosing to the shape of gigantic versions of Sergey's own Pokémon
