I am a man, that is really starting to like Magicl girl shows.

Tough I find kinda embarrasing to admit it in Real Life. I openly admit to like phineas and ferb and Dragonball Z.

Any advice?

Well, if your magical girl of choice is Nanoha you've got a clear advantageous starting point since she's basically a walking howitzer in a skirt who beats up her friends for fun. I mean, she's more MANLY than the people who'd be making fun of you.

I openly admit to like phineas and ferb and Dragonball Z.

Well, those are kid's shows too, so not much of a stretch.

Because she's basically a walking howitzer in a skirt who beats up her friends for fun. What the hell isn't to like? [lol]

... why exactly is it a problem to admit that, though? Whose opinions are you trying to pander to and why would their opinions be worth pandering to?

^ This.

If your friends judge you that much for watching magical girl shows then I'm not sure why you're trying to please such individuals. I openly talk about how I like pink and adorable things and nobody gives a shit. If they did then I wouldn't associate with them.

@OP:

Pfft.

I watch shows like Yumeiro Patissiere all the time.

I love this show. I love the faeries. I love the sparkles. I love the pink. I love the overarching saccharine madness. ~Ichigo fraisier et framboise! Happy, happy macaroon. Happiness, made go!~

Tell me what part of your mind is ashamed about this.

Because our minds clearly work very differently and I couldn't give you very good advice given my current knowledge.

My life has revolved around cuteness and girliness for years. And I haven't managed to actually acquire any complexes about it. Well, except that I'm a bit boisterous about my love for it. One might almost say indignant.

Mention Dai Mahou Touge, Puni Puni Poemy and some other parodies/Darker and Edgier versions. Should help people warm up to the genre.

Alternatively, if you are trying to convince meatheads of the durr-all-animation-is-kiddy variety, don't even bother, you can enjoy your hobby with other people. There's no need to show anyone every aspect of yourself.

I know what you said, sugar, but 'platonic' still entails a world of ideas.

You're not alone. I'm becoming obsessed with them myself.Even writing my own story.

Another good one is Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

It is kind of funny to read this thread, though, knowing that Fallen Legend would go on and become a Friendship Is Magic fanboy.

It's like one of those movies where a young boy applies himself to some sort of art despite society's expectations of him, except with colourful girly shows.

you know when I was younger I tried really really hard to get into sailor moon because my pre adolescent brain figured all anime was must be awesome like Astro Boy or Teknoman was.

I... was... wrong.

Sailor Moon was very much a girl's show. Also early translations left a lot to be desired. Just be glad Sagan Moon didn't get their hands on it, because then you would have seen something truly horrible.
