He took 31 tries to guess Candide. Though to be fair, I accidentally answered one or two of the questions incorrectly. It's been a while since I read the book.
Edit: I tried it again with Eugenides and it took 31 tries again. It sure has an impressive knowledge of characters, but it takes forever to get there.

It gets all the Homestuck characters. Even fedoraFreak. It got him in 20.
Heh, it got The Master from Fallout in about 15 questions. I thought it'd be too obscure. This thing is pretty good.
But it didn't know who Neeber from BG 2 is. It took about 30 questions to get Noober, but he's technically a different character. Still pretty good.
