This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Well then it just has to be brought back in a way not as infuriating as OMD.
I'm an optimistic person so I hope whoever leads the charge to bring in the marriage is not as incompetent as Quesada when he removed it in the first place.
Seriously you would have to be writing a purposely horrid story to match Spider-Man selling his marriage to the fucking Devil.
Again you would have to be an incompetent boob to do so.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Dude don't jinx it.
Yeah, but the issue was that Spider-man's original marriage was nowhere near that bad and OMD STILL seemed like an appropriate solution to enough people for it to actually happen.
So even if it comes back in a better way, anti-marriage fans are still willing to go to OMD lengths to get rid of it.
Ironically enough, DC did a reverse version of OMD to restore Superman's marriage to the mainline canon. It pissed off a few N52 and S/WW fans, but has been generally well received across the board.
If they ever merge the Renew Your Vows and Mainline Spideys, I can see some minor outrage, but nothing too substantial as the marriage remains very popular, and the newspapers have always promoted it in a positive manner all decade. We've never went a year without the marriage in print one way or the other, so is it a big deal if it comes back?
In fairness, writers and editors have flirted with years with getting rid of the marriage
They always pulled back though
It took someone as weirdly pathological as Quesada to pull the trigger for reals
Forever liveblogging the AvengersLooks like we get to find out what happens to BOTH Flash and Mania.

Guys, I've tried to google this but haven't gotten any satisfying answers, so I'm asking here. Did MJ or an AU version of her take up a superheroine identity recently? Because a very recent (and admittedly NSFW) comic by a guy who is totally not Fred Perry of Gold Digger fame revolves around Spider-Man and what totallynot!Perry calls "Mary Jane-Venom", who looks like a redhaired, green-eyed version of Julia Carpenter in her classic Spider-Woman costume◊. There's no clear sign if the "Venom" thing is just a deliberately ironic choice of codename or if this MJ really is using the Venom symbiote, BTW; it hasn't pulled any obvious shapeshifting yet. And no, there's no backstory at all so far.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Mary Jane is a superhero in the Renew Your Vows universe, although that's not what The Booty Doc's sketch is based on. I'm guessing that was just the costume the Patron wanted.
My various fanfics. That's how I see it as well. Like even if hypothetically you do get the Pro-Marriage fan to somehow mythical get enough credibility and influence to climb the ranks and restore things to the way it was before, by that point there'd be just as many years of Single-Pete Post-OMD, if not more, than when he was married.
For what it's worth, I honestly do think Marvel will eventually do some Mephisto follow-up, but I doubt the marriage will be restored at its conclusion.
Giving that Mary Jane is seen as Peter's main love interest by non comic readers(people who know Spider-Man from other forms of media like the 90's animated series and the Sam Raimi movies, and hell even the newspaper strips). I'm surprised that Marvel keeps trying to create new love interest.
No new love interest will ever top MJ. Marvel needs to accept this and admit that they made a mistake in undoing the marriage.
Also it makes no sense in having Peter be single now that we have Miles in the 616 universe.

he was married for 20 years and been single again for 10

What I meant was how many more years will it take for fans of "Peter specifically married to Mary Jane" to be be able to climb the ranks and override the previous retcon?
What I was saying was by that point, Pete arguably would have been single again longer than the time he was married.
...But in the meantime, Marvel will probably still be publishing stories where the two are married regardless, even if it's in alternate universes, it still informs new generations that, yes, those two are meant to be together.
They've spent 30 years together now overall even if you don't factor in the 10 he's spent single in mainline canon.
The newspapers are wrapping up the Peter, MJ and Rocket crossover...Oh how convenient, MJ is curious about who the other Guardians are, so Rocket spends today's strip listing a roll call of the movie's cast..Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Star Lord (guess the strip writers did'nt get the memo that it's Baby Groot now either), Rocket tells Peter and MJ Star Lord is also from Earth, which surprises them...wonder if he'll also tell them his name is Peter too?

Cool review/write up in io9 about the new Ben Reilly series. Someone in the comments echoed my thought on the issue/framing which was that "he's pretty much Deadpool now". It's an interesting premise though that makes me pretty different than the other Spider-People.
Except Deadpool has more of a conscience.
Yeah, I said that.
Crazy Ben is just... an unlikable asshole who constantly screws innocent people over for no reason. There's like 3 instances of that in this issue alone.
I just had a thought.
There's apparently mandates saying Peter can't be married to MJ.... But I don't think there's anything saying Ben Reilly can't be married to MJ! We could get a reversal of the planned ending to the second Clone Saga XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.I did like the Kaine Jackal bit.
Mileena MadnessBased on the io9 summary/excerpts, I think Mary Jane (and really anyone that Peter knows/looks like someone Peter knows) would be well advised to get a restraining order against Ben as he currently is.
Which is not to say he's an uninteresting character. Besides Deadpool, the other comparison that came to mind was Hank Pym in his Yellowjacket phase.

You know, since Mary Jane was partly responsible for Harry turning to drugs, the second time of which was partly responsible for Norman's then-final relapse into the Green Goblin, which was directly responsible for Gwen Stacy's death, that means MJ is partly responsible for Gwen's death.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Only if you want to blame MJ for Harry's own terrible life choices and coping patterns.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI was kinda joking kinda-serious but I think MJ probably would blame herself for it, especially since she knew Peter was Spider-Man at the time thanks to retcons. She didn't help by saying Harry was good for a few laughs and calling him 'Curly' :P Truly the most heinous of 60's insults.
...Speaking of, 60s MJ is near incomprehensible at times. About as bad as Snapper Carr XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.just as planned
yeah as much as a I want a married spider-man I worry that he has been single long enough that even if the marriage was brought back we'd just get a generation of post-OMD "my Spidey is single!" writers trying to undo it again.
