Judging by her menu animation, Miyu looks like she's somewhat the flirtation type. Probably closer to Katt's personality.

Also, despite the impression you'd get from them, the artwork suggests Miyu is the shortest member after Slippy, and Fey is the tallest member after Falco.

Looking over Star Fox 2, it's neat how it kills all of Star Wolf EXCEPT for Wolf himself.

I mean, it does fit with the more... dangerous atmosphere the SNES games had over the later games besides Assault (maybe), but Wolf flies away instead of blowing up. And even while fighting him he's a blustering middle-aged foe yelling at Fox to get off his lawn. Makes you wonder if Wolf was supposed to be some furry Neidermeyer who'd come by with a different party in each game.

I still think the SNES games are the darkest of all the games (barring some parts of Assault's storyline) simply because your teammates can actually die in that one, as opposed to returning to the Great Fox for repairs.

No kidding. The ending's final flight home and the music for the SNES Star Fox were downright sombering if you somehow lost your entire team.

Makes you wonder what would the series be like if they kept permadeath for 64.

[up]A lonely reward ceremony with only Fox and ROB 64 in General Pepper's presence. Or possibly even worse, assuming that the Great Fox can be destroyed in Sector Z?... Just Fox, all alone.

It'd certainly make the Star Wolf fights more deadly. You could even end up with Fox and Wolf dueling it out with their teams gone.

Star Wolf on Venom 2 is borderline impossible if you have more than 1 wingman down.

It's really difficult with 1 wingman down.

It's not that difficult if you keep your wingmen alive. Which I always try to do. I don't get why some people just let them have to retreat.

So here's a montage of SF 2 Star Wolf battles:

As you can see, all except for Wolf blow up when out of HP. And like last time, I wonder what the plan was with that.

On a related note, you wonder if the SNES Classic will call Algy Andrew to be in line with later games?

I don't see him mentioning anything about him being related to Andross, and they're a different species of monkey too, so I don't think that would be wise. It would raise more questions than answers.

Plus... ugh, that clip served as a great reminder for how effective "nostalgia googles" can be. The framerate was awful, the screen was too crowded, and the camera was too zoomed in on the Arwing to give a decent view for the space around it.

...No wait, scratch that; I think that's specifically Star Fox 2's own problem, because the first game had a pretty sparse and clean interface (though the framerate was still terrible).

I can't address the design (other than pointing out he's a prototype of Andrew) but him not mentioning being Andross' nephew can be put down as another difference between the SNES continuity and 64 continuity. SNES Pigma apparently didn't play a role in Fox Senior/James' entrapment and doesn't mention him. Neither does SNES Wolf.

So, here's some translations of the Japanese dialogue in 64's Star Wolf levels for those into it:

Footage of the SNES Classic Version of Star Fox 2 has leaked out. Apparently it's indeed the finished version of the game that was set for launch until cancellation. Also, Cap'n Wolf.

There's an official page for Star Fox 2's manual up now:

https://www.nintendo.co.jp/clvs/manuals/starfox2/html/USen/index.html

It even has bios for the new SF members and Star Wolf.

I'm not sure if Miyu's bio description gives her any character (mostly because I have no idea what the heck it said) but Fay's backstory of being part of an aristocratic family could lead to interesting stories had they kept her in the Star Fox universe. Like maybe she joined with Star Fox because her family was in debt, and she feels being a mercenary will help get them out of it.

Now that Star Fox 2 finally gotten a release on the SNES Classic. I hope this might make Miyu and Fay show up in a future Star Fox game as a reintroduction and maybe a small bit of personality change to Miyu.

I'm probably one of the few out there that don't have a SNES Classic and think what I'm about to ask is important, but here goes:

Did they change the planets' names or are the planets named as per the Beta? I want to know if Eladard is still a thing or if they renamed it as one of the planets in the '64 timeline.

Also,

wild mass guessAlgy is Andrew's Father meaning he's Andross' either Brother or Brother-In-Law.

Is the Lylat System supposed to be a solar system, a sector of space, or an entire galaxy? The game's have never been clear on that.

For the longest time as a kid, I used to think that Solar was the Lylat system's sun; it was in the center of the map in Star Fox 64, after all.

It's a solar system. Lylat is the name of the system's star. It looks like Star Fox 2 has also stated that it's a binary star system, with Lylat being the larger star and Solar being the smaller star, but 64 onward changed Solar to just being a perpetually molten planet.

[up]So I was originally correct. Good to know. Odd how they decided to make it into a molten planet, those don't occur very often naturally in space, unless it happens to be in such close proximity to the resident star that the heat melts the surface.

No, Solar could still totally be a star. Like I just said, stars do come in that size, ie. about the size of a gas giant. And since it's a small star, Solar wouldn't be particularly hot. You know, compared to other stars.
