When I was ... like 10 or 11 ... I wrote a fantasy novel. (Yes, I still have it, and it's laughably bad in a large number of respects and only mediocrely bad in an enormous number of others.) I made it clear about a quarter of the way through the writing, in various other MS Word documents, that this was part of a series. Not only was it part of a series, it was the first of about six prequels to what I considered the "first book" of the series which then went on for about 20 projected volumes, each of which was provided with a back-of-the-book blurb, character lists, and occasionally a short scene or two I felt like writing from the book. (These consisted mostly of fight scenes, fight scenes, villain sues being villainous, fight scenes, anything with waterfalls, and I'm sure there were some fight scenes in there someplace.)
Over the next few years it appears I abandoned some of the plots as being too silly and/or too obviously ripped off from Redwall/The Lord of the Rings/whatever else I was reading at the time. Nonetheless, that I continued to take it seriously is shown by the occasions on which I started writing another volume of the series, usually under the impression I was doing so in such a way as to introduce greater moral ambiguity or something. As recently as .... '07 or thereabouts .... I have back-cover blurbs for a few projected volumes rewritten, and the first two or so pages of the actual "first book" which was never written — they're actually pretty well-written pages by contrast, although nothing special in general.
Nowadays with me being quite disillusioned with book series in general (which I've expounded on at greater length elsewhere) I'm unlikely to ever try to write anything like that. Still, I evidently wanted to at one point. I guess I just get tired of stories in my head long before I have the chance to finish writing them down.
I have devised a most marvelous signature, which this signature line is too narrow to contain.Curiously, or perhaps not, my "main story" for the Pokémon fandom has been shifting back and forth between the planning desk and collection of snippets, plus a wiki, for about three years. However I extracted from it some tidbits of information from which I formed side stories.
The main story is the essential Trainer fic every Pokémon fan has to write to consider themselves a... I don't know, I guess they retain some value despite statistics. Two girls, one bud, trying to revalidate their old badges via Gym rematches while they get dragged into the mysteries of their region. The usual.
Then the girls witness the murder of a thief who was trying to steal revolutionary technology and their tour across the landscape is wrecked when they are about to be recalled for a Witness Protection Program. Meanwhile the boy has the stupid idea of attacking an old, mystical, in-heat Pokémon, and the Elemental Attacks of his partner are sealed apparently forever, forcing him to assume the role of the Knight Errant in search for the myths and legends that may be capable of undoing the spell.
Then I took one of the supporting characters for whom I had set up his backstory to be a scientist, gave him a fossil, and decided to write the life of the Pokémon "revived" from the fossil. That's how Sixth was born.
Then when I wanted to enter a contest I just picked up a random fact from my Universe Bible that fitted the theme of the contest and wrote a short story about two Pokémon who like to run and, not content with simply challenging each other, decide that challenging the Sun itself would be funnier. That was called Playfield and is the only actual oneshot I have written ever.
Later I took the Omniscient Council of Vagueness who actually do something rather than look from the shadows and started to extend their backstory forming them into a full-fledged organization and giving them their own adventures to go have danger fun with. That is ending up being The Guild Of Rienna.
Then because I discovered TV Tropes and I was bored of Nidorans seeing not much love, I even took some of the worldbuilding made for them in my fic and worked it together with canon and fanon across the board to write the Nidoran "Extended Fanon Edition" entry. From that point I think I have already become nuts.
Of course I plan to have the main story published some day, only I've reverted to writing in my native language in order to advance faster and better. But in the meantime I'll always have some random facts and myths to extract from my little universe just in case I ever enter a contest or decide to offer a piece of story again.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?I have a main story, but it's been hijacked by short stories containing the secondary characters. Spotlight stealers. Also, the history of the Anati and their evolution is eating up a lot of my bonus pages. As is the Interdimensional Species Compedium. Arrrgh.
Pie is yum. So is toast.I have the main storyline for The Group somewhat planned for three arcs. During that time there will be three more characters in the main ensemble, and a buttload of supporting characters. The plan is to make a few stories about these side characters.
So far I've planned to write about a secondary group that is created by members of the main group. There are also some short stories about the local Humanoid Abomination. This would probably parody the Call of Cthulhu RPG. I also want to do some stuff about the bartender, mostly to show how the world is to non-superpowered, non-evil individuals.
I also want to do some background stories. Mostly to show what Marcus and Shaun was doing while still in the UK. I've also teased the idea of showing Rachel's fall from a young idealist to a cynical bastard that's barely heroic anyway.
This would be the reason that I've taken six years to get anything done.
- Main series - six books: started out as five, added one in the middle.
- One prequel/alt POV - secondary protagonists
- Not sure what I'm gonna do with this one.
- Prequel/alt POV - Big Bad as the Villain Protagonist
- Fun
- A lot of mini stories to help me establish their characters, including a couple of High School A Us.
I feel your pain AHR.

The Blog The ArtI haven't even written my main story, and already I find myself getting ideas for a prequel and a story set on another planet within the same universe.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The Staff- First story and my current projects. Which is really An interim book between the end of the main story and Shinji's story.
- The prequel Detailing the events that caused The Great Awakening and it's cause.
- A short story slice of life dealing with the Mentor's college life and early teaching career that takes place between the First Story and the Prequel.
- A Gaiden to the first story from the teachers prospective. Told from the afterlife.
- The first story and Gaiden republished as one. either told in present tense or narrated by the mentor
- A World War II novella based in the past of my universe that will make the title of the first novel make sense. Technically it's 2 short stories blended into one Novella, one is from the Axis's Awakens POV, the other is from the Aliies POV.
- An Omake style web comic that parody's every chapter of the canon story.
- A sequel to the first story that I might turn into an AU.

[[User Banned]]_ My Pm box ix still open though, I think?Guilty, Your Honour
My current focus, The Ephesian Crucible *, has since spawned a subsequent plotline where everything is peaceful and the two main characters start a company to rule the universe[hottip:*:ok, provide FTL communication between star systems and make shitloads of money]], and one character still needs to finish school/attend university/join the Navy. Plus i should probably explain why the Republic was such a shithole that a civil war seemed an appropriate solution to the problem.
But i also have another series, Successive Approximations *. Fortunately, this has morphed into a multi-volume anthology of shorter stories. Phew
The terrible downside to multiple identities: multiple tax returnsI've toyed with it, mainly cause of the Naritaverse, I like the idea of two completely unrelated shows existing in the same world.
CAUSE EVERY GIRL IS CRAZY 'BOUT A SHARP DRESSED MANI'm still writing the first story in my fantasy Masquerade setting, which is set in 1896 and involves a young couple getting involved in a fairly serious supernatural conflict; while I'm doing that, I have an idea slowly coming together in my head for a sequel, which would be set in modern day and involve the granddaughter of the first story's major antagonist as the protagonist. I also have a very, very vague idea of a third story which I would like to write someday, which would be set in mediaeval Venice and be the backstory of one of my favourite characters, but I doubt it'll ever get written because a) I'd have to finish and edit the other two first, and that in itself seems unlikely, and b) I know nothing about mediaeval Venice.
Scepticism and doubt lead to study and investigation, and investigation is the beginning of wisdom. - Clarence DarrowZaran il Legio is a spinoff of Forgotten Lore, only I've started doing the spinoff before the original work (I had the idea for Forgotten Lore a lot earlier). I've also had an idea (but haven't developed it any further) of a story taking place in the same universe, only a few hundred years later, where the demons finally get their shit together and invade Earth (altho they'd probably get cubstomped since we'd probably have plasma rifles and railguns at that point). I also have an idea for two videogames set in the universe (one being an rpg that would fit into the continuity, the other being a non-continuity rts where you would controll one of the demon legions and attempt to defeat the other legions). Besides that, there's some random stuff that wouldn't fit the continuity, like gag strips and the Herald getting a spinoff called "The Herald of the Outer Gods is a Huge Dick" (not intended to be a full-fledged comic).
Unit 88: an authorized spinoff of Planetary Agents, and in fact my Unit 88 stories will later have a spinoff featuring a group of space-faring mercenaries (a combination of characters authorized by THEIR original author and characters from me) known as the DARK-Suits (Desolation's Army of Rogues in Killer Suits). I'm also certainly introducing enough secondary/support characters (especially Unit 13) to possibly consider a spinoff, filled with a LOT less angsting and a lot more character-developing teammate dynamics (plus WAAAAY more action and a fair bit more sex—there's a REASON Unit 13's nicknamed "the luckiest S.O.B.s in the Agency").
Jykku Jetty: I'm definitely planning a spinoff, "Gun Maiden Silvie", that starts up a short time before Jykku Jetty finishes.
Cherry Kiss: MIGHT have a side story (I haven't yet considered a full spinoff) about Cherry's roommate/ex, trans-man Coney. Considering they move to Japan together (the background behind it is unlikely, but not exactly impossible to imagine) prior to the start of Cherry Kiss (Cherry has to finish high school, and Coney's starting college), it would probably be a good idea to make a spin-off happen...if only to see how a bisexual transman from America (whose only meaningful relationship beforehand is pre-transition with a pre-transition Cherry) adjusts to college and dating in Japan.
none of my other story ideas have sub-stories, but I do have a group of manga/anime ideas that all take place in a Shared Universe
It's better to be right than liked. Really. I Just Want to Be Loved
Show of hands, who here has thought their works through enough to have sequels, continuations, side stories and whatnot? If so describe your ideas here. (Details optional but welcome)
I've considered after I finish the main continuity/trilogy of my Endless Conflict series to branch out into other directions pertaining to the same universe. Granted these parts are probably going to be written several years from now minimum owing to me finishing the trilogy first.
Among them I've considered is one side series called The Eighth Armored Division set in the Endless Conflict verse but is told from its own perspective. Eighth Armored as I refer to these ideas in shorthand is noteworthy in that it focuses more on regular soldiers than the main continuity does, specifically those of tank and armored vehicle crews. I don't have a cast yet, but some of the events I have ideas for. It does not go as far Beyond the Impossible as the main trilogy but it makes up for it being more consistent in scale. Basically the gist of this series would be telling the adventures and exploits of a regular army division as opposed to special forces units and fleet actions.
Other side stories include Endless Conflict: Aftermath a sort of wrap up of the continuity as a whole spanning a collection of stories from civilians and soldiers during and after the eponymous conflict as they come to rebuild their lives and way of life following its conclusion. Much Lighter and Softer than the series as it focuses more on Slice of Life tales and the like instead of war stories. Two particular stories are definitive in this one and have connections to the main continuity. The first one tells the story of a civilian named Toroko Tezuka who was a one-off character in the first book of the first trilogy. Basically Toroko's story would tell what she has done ever since the days she fled from Rio Azúl University all the way to after the conflict's end. A second story somewhat related to that is sort of prequelish in the form of a story where Jessebelle "Jessie" Marietta Noland a major character from the main work has the story of how she fought in the Tarsian Campaign of the first book, before she was introduced in the main story proper. Jessie's story in the tone of Aftermath focuses on how she went from naive girl to the Badass Action Girl of the main continuity fully exploring some of the quirks and details that are shown in the trilogy such as why for such a small girl she carries around such a big gun. This story tells why.
Beyond these two side works which owing to my distaste for Attention Deficit Creator Disorder won't be written for a while, I only have flits of small ideas I could expand upon.
