There actually was a little rebuilding, but only in the very last season, which was like twenty episodes. The season before that was about them searching for the treasures of Thundera, which actually is kind of like the new show. I blame Nostalgia Filter, as usual. People just remember what they want to about old shows. The first two season of Thunder Cats is, if anything, about survival, or at least I think that's sort of what they were going for. Like you described, I don't think it was executed well.

Watching the show every day (yes, it airs every day on Teletoon Retro) I can tell you that even then, you are giving the plot WAY more credits. 95% of the episodes, no matter the seasons, have the Thundercats doing nothing at all. They are just lounging or dicking around in their fortress. Only Wilykit and Wilykat actually do things, and that's mostly get in trouble. Only reason they ever get out of the damn fortress is because the villains make them.

The survival/treasure hunting premise dies by the third episode when the Birbils build them their fortress.

Quicksand sea? Interesting.

Anyone think we'll get an episode detailing the Thunderkittens' backstory?

I remember watching some old reruns of the series back in 2000 out of sheer boredom. As far as I could tell, the show didn't really have a plot. Like someone said, the cats sat around until somebody managed to get into trouble or some random nonsense came out of nowhere and forced them to act. Then they all shouted at each other in voices that were, somehow, both wooden and hammy and stumbled around until Lion-o held up the sword and projected that spotlight that somehow solved all their problems.

[up] Oh yes, so much ham. Lion-O seems to have some sort of mental disorder where he narrates everything that's happening to him as it's happening. Then there's Mandora and Willa, every time they opened their mouths they always spoke in this loud melodramatic voice. It's like Storm from X-Men except without the weather based powers to justify talking like that. Seriously I wish I could find a compilation of all the hammy acting.

Course they got nothing on Mumm-Ra. "Ancient spirits of Evil!™ I, Mumm-Ra the Ever Living™ command you to bring forth the intense thirst-quenching power of Cherry Coke, that I may refresh myself and bring an end to the great thirst that I have been forced to endure since time immemorial!"

[up][up][up] One episode that stands to my memory is the first episode with the Birbils. Lion-O has a fight scene without moving. The original show has great animation in the intro, but the show proper's animation is lazy and lame. And that was an example, a whole fightscene where Lion-O simply holds the sword of omens up and doesn't move a muscle.

Then there was New Powers as the Plot Demands like the episode where Lion-O can fly Thor-style by holding on to the sword, the same way Thor flies by throwing and holding on to Mjolnir.

^^^ What about Safari Joe?

WillKeaton from Alberta, Canada Since: Jun, 2010

[up] Safari Joe didn't show up in many episodes. In fact I can only think of two. Though very hammy, he managed to chew scenery in a way that felt natural for him. Being an interplanitary big game hunter probably helps. That Samurai who showed up in one episode was pretty hammy too. The other thing is a lot of characters had annoying Verbal Tics. We all know about snarf-narf! but remmeber Safari Joe's steam powered robot? How about that idiot with the drums who hung out with the Demolisher? And while the Beril's didn't technically have a tic I still wanted to slit my wrists every time one of them started talking.

I want to see the new episode just so we can get a feel for what's left of Thundera. Did the lizards manage to kill EVERYONE? Did Mumm-Ra move into the royal palace? Did they take anyone to use for slave labour? Also, where does Tygra get his armour? Did this guy lend it to him?

If we don't find out where they got their clothes, then I'll have to send the Crew of Omens another question.

My question is how Kit and Kat were able to safely scavenge the ruins. Isn't Mumm-Ra on the throne right about now?

Hm. There appears to be no real opening theme. Just a snippet that sounds like the original theme + title card.

Lion-O is really angry. Makes sense.

So, I guess the new armor was just taken from somewhere in the ruins.

And Mumm-Ra didn't stick around.

I like how the fish-people apparently have the interior of the ship flooded for their convenience.

Confused by how the sandsea works. It's like, sand that acts like water, in the middle of a desert of normal sand.

Edit:

Grr. Creepy cook. And the captain is just exacerbating Lion-O's issues.
