Should have linked to the official video. Considering that FFXV seemed to be a no-show, this was a very pleasant surprise.
And with the news of Nomura stepping down from FFXV to focus on KHIII, and the ffxv demo being included with Type-0 HD (releasing March 7, 2015), I would say it's safe to say that the game's near completion.

I'm not expecting too much from this game's plot, but damn this looks good. It probably helps that I'm not really on the hype train. If we get a decent, fun jrpg, I'm game.
Any word on of XV will actually get a playable female character? Or is it still a sausage fest Fujoshi Bait with the girls just being tools to be worried about?

It's legitimate question, all non sequel main series Final Fantasy games have had a male to female ratio of around 3-2 or higher yet this one seems to be all guys with the girl seemingly being the Damsel in Distress and all promo art is just of those same five Bishōnen.
Will there be at least 1 playable female? If not then I see a lot of doom and gloom in the future, in the Japanese market especially.

you're basing this off entirely on one videogame. a videogame from an important franchise, yes, but this is pretty apocalyptic.
while it would be nice to get a playable female character for the sake of diversity, it's not really a deal-breaker for me. i'd be more concerned with whether she was enjoyable or not than her gender.

I'd be more inclined to take your inquiry seriously if you didn't phrase it in such a blatantly inflammatory way, or copy and paste it multiple times. Just saying.
I posted something similar in the main FF thread, I didn't see that this thread existed.
And it is a hot button issue with me, yes. Every final fantasy game since IV has operated on a main guy / main girl system and every single main girl outside of IV has been my fav character in that game. For that to be abandoned for just Bishonen Fujoshi bait makes me really confused as well as mad especially with the stories going around about if Square has another FFXIV then it's going under.
At this point I would take an announcement of a female playable character that is as important as Yuffie just to get one.
doom and gloom for the game itself I mean, otaku won't buy it.
