BOB is just evil in it's pure form. He's the same as the Little Man From Another Place, just some strange being from another plane that we cannot truly understand or would ever WANT TO understand.

My dad had the show on VHS tapes, whhich was useful since I was born after the pilot aired. I grew up watching it (and thanks to it, I've been nursing an odd crush on Kyle Mac Lachlan ever since ...)

It's so campy it makes you cringe!

Watching it now, the show is a compelling mix of truly original weirdness and standard early 90's tv. The writers have admitted to frequently making it up as they go.

Anyone remember the Darkwing Duck episode that referenced Twin Peaks?

Remastered re-release of the original story on Blu-Ray would be my best guess for now.

What do you mean by "the original story" ? Cos' the remastered blu-ray of the series is already out (was released this summer in fact).

I'm gonna go out on a limb and necro this particular thread, given that season 3 is coming to Showtime in 2017, with the vast majority of the surviving cast intact (the surviving actors, that is; a number of the characters they play are dead, but they're coming back anyhow). Enjoy your stay in Twin Peaks. Try the coffee.

The new season is mostly cast, which itself tells us a few things about what's changed and what hasn't in T.P.

  • Not returning (didn't care to, or weren't asked): Michael Ontkean, Piper Laurie, Lara Flynn Boyle, Joan Chen, Michael J. Anderson, Heather Graham, Chris Mulkey.
  • Not returning (Grim Reaper had dibs): Frank Silva, Jack Nance, Don S. Davis, Frances Bay, Bowie.
  • New characters (Lynch stable): Laura Dern, Naomi Watts, Balthazar Getty
  • New characters (other): Michael Cera, Tim Roth, Monica Bellucci, Jane Levy, Amanda Seyfried, Richard Chamberlain, Ernie Hudson, Ethan Suplee, Jim Belushi (!), Grant Goodeve (!!!)

Now, Lynch isn't above recasting a role with a different actor (Moira Kelly for Boyle, notoriously), so the "not returning" list isn't the absolute last word on the characters they played ... especially not for roles/concepts as protean as BOB and the LMFAP.

Not returning (Grim Reaper had dibs)? It's probably wrong to admit that I burst out laughing at that. But I did.

I'd read that Ontkean (who played Sheriff Harry S.Truman) was contacted, but elected not to come back as he's retired from acting. The rest I'm not sure about. The Log Lady recorded a single teaser intro for the new season (which you can find on Youtube) but has since passed away of cancer. I'd say that Lara Flynn Boyle, as relatively important as her character was, wasn't really as closely associated with her role as some of the others. Before I re-watched the series a few years ago, I'd completely forgotten her, James, Bobby Briggs, Shelly, and Leo.

But hey, it's got Cooper, and Audrey. I'm good.

[up][up] Monica Bellucci and Eddie Vedder (of all people) are apparently showing up, too.

It'll be interesting to see how some of the characters are portrayed as having changed over the years. My pet theory: Bobby Briggs joined the military, is now Major Briggs in his own right, and—most unexpectedly of all—has become a 24-karat chip off the old block, completely fulfilling his dad's Season 2 vision in the process.

The central character in the new season is supposed to be a female FBI agent who receives the dossier on the Twin Peaks case under mysterious circumstances. The leading theory is that this character will be played by Laura Dern, but there's no confirmation. One popular bit of fan speculation is that the FBI agent is Audrey Horne, following in Cooper's footsteps. I like that idea, but I doubt that's the way it'll go. I can't even really imagine what Audrey might be doing now.

[up]I like that idea for Bobby. He did seem to be slowly reforming himself towards the end of the series. It says something for Dana Ashbrook that I kinda liked Bobby, even though he was seriously objectionable most of the time (never could warm up to James much...I kinda found him pouty and not terribly interesting).

[up]Either would work, though I really like the idea of Laura Dern in that kind of role.

One loose thread that I really hope they address, but might not, is the disappearance of Chet Desmond ... a mystery that gets (relatively) minor attention among the fandom. It'd be nice to see Kiefer Sutherland get a guest spot reprising his role of Sam Stanley—what effects, one wonders, did the events of FWWM have on the latter's life and FBI career?

Chet Desmond was played by Chris Isaak, yes? Haven't heard anything about him coming back (not that they couldn't have recast his part, of course). I have somehow managed to not see Fire Walk With Me yet; I'll have to make a point of doing that here pretty soon.

I've been rewatching the original series, and it really does appear that, after Laura Palmer's killer is revealed, the writers weren't quite sure what to do with all of the secondary characters. Cooper's business with Windon Earle had already been teased for a bit, so it felt like they had some guidance on that. I've read that Lynch and Frost weren't around much for the later parts of the second season, and it kinda shows. The subplots seem to kinda wander about. A lot of the actors apparently felt that way about it, too.

Trying to pair Audrey up with Bobby didn't seem right at all. She seemed much too smart to put up with him, and, beneath his bluster and bravado, he seemed genuinely devoted to Shelly up until he started working his way in with Ben Horne.

I'd read as well that Lynch had wanted to keep Cooper and Audrey more or less together; it's funny when Cooper introduces her to Dennis/Denise Bryson and she makes a point to kiss Cooper on the cheek. It really comes off like she's marking her territory. Apparently, though, Lara Flynn Boyle, who was dating Kyle Mac Lachlan at the time, didn't like it that Audrey was getting more attention than she was, being paired with the main protagonist and all, and apparently made an issue about it. Mac Lachlan also has stated that he didn't feel that Cooper would pursue a relationship with a high school girl (no way of really knowing how much sway Boyle had over that opinion, but Sherilyn Fenn apparently considers Audrey and Cooper going their separate ways to being primarily Boyle's doing).

I've started this show on Netflix and I'm close to the end of the second episode. Little worried about episode order, but I'm told the two seasons are pretty straight-forward, and that it's alright to watch the "Fire Walk With Me" film after.

I mainly got interested because of Life Is Strange because, well...

That game had a profound effect on me and a lot of fans were saying to watch Twin Peaks, since Life Is Strange is pretty much "Twin Peaks the Video Game."

And yeah, I can kind of see it. There's a lot of ambiance. This scene I'm at right now in the second episode - Audrey's waiting for her dad to show up and apparently blasting music until he walks in and turns it off. It took me a minute to realize that the crackling noise you're still hearing is there because she was standing in front of a fireplace, even though they don't really show it.

I wasn't too wowed by any of the actors or portrayals (Laura's mom's bawling for one), but then I have to remember that Life Is Strange didn't exactly have the greatest voice-acting either (good performances, but the dialogue and voice-syncing could be pretty awkward during certain scenes).

Something about the phrase, "Fire Walk With Me" just gives me this weird, electrical feeling. Like they're Arc Words or something. I want to finish this show, yeah, but in spite of hearing about FWWM being pretty bad, I'm tempted to watch it first.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me isn't bad. It's actually very good. It's just not the movie that most fans of Twin Peaks were expecting. Since the second season of Twin Peaks ended on a cliffhanger, people were expecting Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me to pick up where that left off, to answer a bunch of questions, but it didn't.

The movie is basically ten minutes of Agent Cooper before he ever went to Twin Peaks and then the rest of the film is the Last Night of Laura Palmer, where we see everything that happened to her before the series started. There is one moment that reveals kind of what happened to Agent Cooper after the second season, but most of the movie is a prequel to the show.
