Is it sad that the first thing that has come to mind is that the Tuscon attack must have given the impetus for every crazy to start going at it? Or that the second thought was that a group of Western Terrorists are emerging?
I'm not saying its true, I'm just saying its the first thought to pop into my head. Such is the effect of American national news and their sensationalist melodrama I guess...
Final Fantasy, Foreign Policy, and Bollywood. Helluva combo, that...Is this the second or third attempt at this fashion in the Pacific Northwest? I coulda sworn we had a similar thing about Portland last month.
Either way it seems somebody or some group has been doing these for a while now.
"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."Well, the Pac NW is known for having a lot of skinheads.
Major Tom, the Portland bomb attempt was by a militant Muslim whose symbolic target was a Christmas ceremony.
Since the symbolic target here was an MLK parade, it's unlikely there's any connection.
“Love is the eternal law whereby the universe was created and is ruled.” — St. BernardI doubt any of them have any connection, they're all probably isolated crazies.
To think I actually miss living in the Pacific NW.
My first thought in reaction to this is WHY?!? followed by a facepalm. Hope they find the individuals responsible. Since it's a dud, probably a much better chance, as they have an intact bomb to look at for clues and such.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.We in the real Pacific Northwest (west side of the cascades), don't call it Spokompton for nothing, you know. In addition to being a general cesspool of scum and villainy, a lot of crazy also crosses the border from Idaho, further affecting Spokane. If the FBI catches the person(s) responsible, I'll be interested to hear if they came in from Idaho (which is my suspicion). A good example of Idahoan crazy can be found in, of all places, The Oatmeal's blog about its author growing up there: http://theoatmeal.com/blog/bus (Mildly NSFW due to the subject matter it deals with, particularly skinheads), the particularly relevant bits are at the beginning of the article. (Note: Coeur d'Alane is a 30 minute drive from Spokane on I-90.)

If you're reading this, there's probably a huge wall'o'text around here somewhere.Oh, hush.
What, the Wilammette Valley isn't in the real PNW now? That's it, no Tillamook cheese for YOU. At least I pronounce Cot and Caught the same....
But yeah, it's odd that I haven't seen or heard much about this event. Not even on Google News front page today.

Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.People who say that so-and-so region is the real America or Pacific Northwest or Midwest or Georgia bug me. The entire thing's real.
Also, the Tillamook cheese factory is on the coast, not in the valley.
To be fair, they're kind of different... west of the Cascades is tech-y, environmentalism-y, coffee-y, and wet as fuck, whereas the east is sparsely populated, mostly farmers, dry as Leslie Nielson, etc
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.Not a word of this I could find in the Canadian news.
EI: Sacriledge! I grew up surrounded by dairy farms...! Of course, we also had ATI Wah Chang by Albany, ugh - the STENCH.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Maddow said a few things about a white supremacist that described the bombing as "activism". This group also described the Tucson shooting as "the plugging of a Jew Congresswoman and a federal judge". Real charmers, ain't they.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.Really, I was just taking an opportunity to poke fun at the east side because I could, and will stoop to any low to do so. However on a serious note, while they are the same state technically, there is a vast cultural gulf separating them. I'm not arguing that the eastern side of Washington is the deep south, but it isn't exactly full of tree hugging, granola munching, birkenstock wearing, flower-power types either (this statement comes from attending college at Central Washington University in Ellensburg).
A good example of the divide: http://vote.wa.gov/elections/wei/Results.aspx?RaceTypeCode=O&JurisdictionTypeID=1&ElectionID=26&ViewMode=Results 2008 federal election results by county. The north/south divide between red and blue follows the Cascade mountain range, with the exceptions of Lewis, Whitman and Klickitat counties. I should add, the two halves of the state generally get along just fine, we just like to poke fun at each other because we're so different. Nevertheless, there have been attempts and suggestions (albeit half-hearted and rather ridiculous) to divide Washington into two states along this line, for just this reason.
Ultimately though, that's unrelated and off topic of me to go into. My real point was: Washington gets bleed-over crazy from Idaho, and that may also be the case here. I say this because, generally, Washington as a whole is a pretty relaxed place when it comes to politics - I can't think of a place where you would justifiably feel unsafe going, depending on your color, race, etc., which cannot be said for Idaho, the two states seem to attract two very different types of people. This is not to say that only crazies live in Idaho, just that Washington doesn't seem to have any that cause a ruckus.

If you're reading this, there's probably a huge wall'o'text around here somewhere.OH DAMMIT WHAT THE FUD-
I'm beginning to think that if Washington state ever became a moe anthropomorphism, then it would have split personalities.
But seriously, Spokane, what the hell?
Would you kindly click my dragons? The bomb wasn't a dud it was found by city workers before the parade passed and the device was seized by Authorities. The parades route was even changed and it was kept quiet till after the fact.
West of the Cascades has more then it's share of lunatics.
Having lived in Spokane hardly a cesspool (Typical comment from the Snobs over the hill) as you would call it. Most of the crazies are not from Spokane but from other areas like Idaho and the surrounding areas and Spokane does a pretty good job of keeping the rats off the ship so to speak.
The Bombing attempt is pretty new for Spokane on a parade like that.
There were suggestions for the openly obvious reasons that it is linked to some extremists of the KKK/Nazi bend.
Who watches the watchmen?@Tuefel - Yeah, I'm actually a little surprised that level of crazy could come out of Spokane.
Would you kindly click my dragons?Exactly. Everybody knows that it's Coeur D'Alene that's the wretched hive of scum and villany, not Spokane.
:P Coeur D'Alene has they Aryan nation group not Spokane like some articles think.
Who watches the watchmen? It's actually nearby Hayden Lake, according to Wikipedia. But, they were mentioned in Searching For Whitopia, so...
It was also the area of that big issue where they town did not want to grant them the right to march but they sued and won.
They have been causing trouble ever since. But I wonder which group will be responsible for the bomb.
Who watches the watchmen?I remember reading a RSTDT quote where a poster recommended that all the "white nationalists" move to Washington. (barfs) I really hope he didn't actually convince anyone to move there and maybe cause this...

Would you kindly click my dragons?
Thankfully, it was a dud.
No one has claimed responsibility yet. The FBI is currently investigating.
Discuss.
