Haven't gone out and bought the game yet (due to being completely broke and in debt at the moment), but I've been listening to the remixes on Rainbow Curse's soundtrack and, well, color me impressed. Not that one should expect any differently, though—Kirby is one of those franchises that always has fantastic music, no matter the game.

I'm a bit surprised not to see any tracks labelled as remixes from Canvas Curse though. You'd think, considering this is pretty much its spiritual sequel, if I understand correctly.

Also, there are a LOT of Mass Attack remixes. Did the same composer work on both games and figure that since that game didn't do so well he wanted his work heard? I'm thinking like Jun Senoue and Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic Adventure.

[up] Heh, "color me impressed."

Most of the Canvas Curse soundtrack consists of remixes, as does that of this game. I think the only notable original song in that game is Drawcia's theme, and Drawcia isn't in Rainbow Curse apart from a cameo.

It's been a while since I've played Canvas Curse (wasn't it released close to the DS's launch, if not a year or two later?), so maybe I should go back and replay it before picking this game up. I'll be totally honest and say I don't remember any of that game's music.

Also, I've never had a clue how you're supposed to pronounce Drawcia's name. "Draw-shuh"? "Draw-see-uh"?

Am I the only one who feels like playing Kirby games in Iwata's honor?

I'm about to boot up Kirby's Dream Collection soon.

I finally beat Triple Deluxe's True Arena today. I haven't picked it up in a bit, and today just seemed like the right time.

I sure said that!

I just beat Dream Land 1's extra mode. I remember it being pretty easy, but this time the only thing that gave me any substantial trouble was Dedede himself.

Oh, and Kracko is a joke in both forms.

Why did they get rid of the Butter Building rotating tower segments in Nightmare in Dream Land? Those were pretty fun to traverse.

This was always one of my favorite Butter Building remixes, by the way.

I've been watching Slim Kirby's LP of Kirby Squeak Squad (which has been incredibly frustrating to me due to how bad he's playing in it and how much he misses opportunities to comment on things, to the point where I want to make my own LP of the game just to compensate for how bad his isnote ), and it's making me realize just how exactly Kirby got its rather infamous reputation for recycling its assets. Like, half the music in the game is directly taken from the GBA Kirby games (with only slight tweaks to adjust for the DS sound card), as well as all of the sprites and the majority of the enemies, and some parts of the level design seem just lifted wholesale from levels in prior Kirby games. I loved this game when I first played it, but I think I see why it's one of the lesser-regarded titles in the franchise, and why the series seemed so stale at one point.

Of course, my view might also be slightly tainted by a recent replay I did of Amazing Mirror, a game which I loved as a kid...and kind of slightly despise after playing through it all again. Man, that game has some issues. Especially some really bland enemy design—most of the new enemies in that game are just blehhh, especially their names (seriously, Box Boxer?).

Of course. It REALLY needs a sequel, or even a port.

Seconding that. A sequel for Kirby's Air Ride would be the greatest thing.

That one trailer for Smash 4 made me think a fusion of Air Ride and Mario Kart wouldn't be such a bad idea either.

Super Smash Kart should be a thing, honestly.

Also, we need to make a Trope page for Kirby Air Ride. It's long overdue.

I wish they'd at least make Kirby DLC in Mario Kart 8. Wouldn't be quite the same as a new Air Ride style game, but it'd be something at least. I would at least be content with an eShop release of the game with support for online play.

Box Boxer is one of my favorite minibosses. I love his design, and his attacks and his name. Amazing Mirror also gave us guardians, who are awesome.

I think the biggest problem with Amazing Mirror is that it's a platform game made after Kirby Super Star. It wasn't until return to dreamland that Hal even tried to build up from Super Star, and while some games had their own gimmicks to make up for it, Amazing Mirror's relies on a hardware restricted form of multiplayer for a system that's increasingly hard to find people to play multiplayer with as time goes on.

Squeak Squad, despite the welcome expansion to Kirby's options and ways to interact with levels, feels like a step back from Amazing Mirror just because such a sparse amount of content comes with it.

I'll say this, the new copy abilities in those games are mostly pretty neat. Smash is the best ability in any Kirby game, and Ghost was a cool concept that could use some more fleshing out (no pun intended).

I'd love to see a Kirby game in the style of Mega Man: The Wily Wars, specifically that game's extra campaign which allows you to use any combination of abilities from the first three Mega Man games. This game would use virtually every ability Kirby has had throughout the series, possibly allowing you to pick a limited number of abilities out of all these that you can equip and dequip at will in a level (like a slightly gimped version of Milky Way Wishes, but with more options to choose from). Levels could potentially be either original or remixes of levels from prior games.

As far as I can tell, this boils down to Triple Deluxe with not!Animal Friends robo mech suit instead of Hypernova.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but I feel as though the plot's premise is kind of wasted on what they chose to do with it.
