Especially upsetting troper tale...:

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TroperTales/TheUnfairSex

Look at the second troper tale on the list. It decribes a case of a guy who was being heavily verbally abused by a group of girls, then resortomg to hitting one of the girls in the face, and then everyone sided with those girls after that.

Obviously he shouldn't have resorted to violence, but still, it makes these girls seem like Karma Houdinis of the worst kind when they get to heavily verbally abuse a guy and still have popular opinion on their side because he resorted to violence. If they were actually indignant about the physical hurt he caused one of them, after the emotional hurt they seemed to cause him, then they are hypocrites as well.

What kind of horrible people are they, taking advantage of these kinds of double standards? As pointed out in the responses, a girl who resorted to violence in response to verbal abuse from guys would probably be viewed a lot more sympathetically.

And as pointed out it does seem selective that the "women are weaker" approach is applied exactly when it's convenient for them to get away with this kind of stuff. The reasoning of "women are weaker on average" wouldn't be considered sufficient justification for something like workplace discrimination, so why is it considered okay for double standards like this?

I agree. This is disturbing. I'm a girl and hate it when girl's expoit the whole 'weaker sex' thing. There are actually women out there who need protection but don't get it because of these twits.

There was a Troper Tale in Beware the Nice Ones where a primary school girl exploited a boy's Wouldn't Hit a Girl policy by trashing his lunch and teasing him all the time. He finally snapped when the girl tore up his homework, so he pushed a computer into her.

Even on major scale things like rape women can get away with stuff. Actual rape is no laughing matter and the victims are to be comforted: it's not their fault. But about ten years ago there was this case where a 17 year old boy was put away for rape: he was in jail for 7 years when the 'victim' revealed that she had lied. His life was ruined.

There are 'weak' members of both sexes, it's about time it was acknowledged.

There isn't a reason, just tradition. Personally, I have a "you hit me, I hit you back harder" policy that doesn't change. Regardless of my target's plumbing facilities.

A woman loses the right to get treated like a lady when she decides to fight like a man.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed.

Wow. If that level of manipulativeness is within her, I hope others have the sense never to trust her.

Damn it, we really need a better sense of justice in schools. -.-

Yeah, my policy is I won't hit a chick physically no matter how much verbal crap they give me. In the case of being verbally ganged up on, I lash out verbally. And if I'm going after someone verbally, I pull no punches. It's not often I go into a state to attack someone verbally, but when I do I get vicious. Nothing is off-limits in those verbal assaults.

Now if they attack me with intent to do serious harm, then damn right I'll defend myself.

Honestly, this is why we need better anti-bullying legislation here in the states. It's not just the sex, because if a girl whacked a boy picking on her, then things would probably end up the same way.

From personal experience, and what I've heard, no one is willing to do anything about bullying, meaning the target suffers until (s)he snaps, having nowhere to turn.

Edit- shouldn't have posted that at least until I get my thoughts out better. Was kind of in a bad mood and sort of overreacted to the OP.

If a bunch of people are verbally abusing you to that extent I don't see why it's an issue to react.

This is why I am glad I went to an all boys school, because punching was basically the limit to which people would go.

You know what? I'm beginning to think public schools should be gender-segregated if only to avoid issues like this. -.-

A woman loses the right to get treated like a lady when she decides to fight like a man.

Not having a go or anything, however this phrase seems to be at odds with the discussion about double standards.
As until the woman "fights like a man" she has the right to different treatment.

A 'better' if more clinical sounding phrase could be: ''If you are attacked use self defence, no matter the sex of the attacker."
By the powers invested in me by tabloid-reading imbeciles, I pronounce you guilty of paedophilia!

Except that it's not so much arguing that she does as addressing perspectives arguing that.

Now I'm curious, what exact perspective were you arguing?

This is so true, hell, some schools punish victims just for defending themselves.

Honestly, I just hate school admins they always treated me just as bad as the aggressor. And I suck at fighting anyway. My last year of school I was de facto expelled because I pepper sprayed someone who was choking me from behind after i warned him. Granted i shouldn't have brought it on campus and wouldn't have if i didn't feel so unsafe.

Forget the fact that i acted in self defense, they treated me like a criminal and him as the victim, trying to scare me with charges that would never hold up in court. meanwhile the kid that attacked me gets a one day suspension.

I really have no sympathy for the guy in that troper tale. He reacted to verbal needling which he could have easily ignored, or, if it really bothered him could have just avoided by leaving the party, with violence.

In the past my policy used to be"don't hit a girl, but joint locks, pain compliance holds, and throws are fair game". Now that I'm older and know better I don't see it in terms of sex anymore. If a individual presents themselves as a threat, you deal with them accordingly; anything from a shove to a bullet in the head.

The Troper Tale sucked; but one day or another those girls are going to pull that shit with the wrong person, and the double standard wound be there to save them.

Shit like that is why I adopt a policy of 'Clock a bitch in the head if she starts shit with me'. I don't give a shit, you want equal rights, equal rights you fucking cunts......uh my misogyny is coming up.

I need to build some upper body strength first. [lol] If I'm going to punch someone, I'd like to hurt them enough that it gives me some getaway time. Most women have nails that terrify me, and I'm not risking my eyes after I went through the trouble of lasik.

Hypothetically speaking: Curl your fingers and punch them in the throat; the momentary inability to breath should give you a moment to attack or run. Then again this is a hypothetical situation.

Hmm, I need to look into lasik.
