Better Explanation and Clean Up: Groin Attack get usage counts

The explanation for this article is ridiculously long and contains plenty of unnecessary details. At its heart Groin Attack should be nothing more than a comedy trope - does it really need such a detailed medical examination on the dangers involved? There also seems to be some confusion both in the description and in the posts about what exactly a Groin Attack happens to be: if a strike to the breasts really does fall under this category then personally I believe this section may need a rename. This trope is also effected by plenty of natter and pointless conversations that ruin the otherwise genuine examples.

It still needs to have the examples re-sorted into "For comedy" and "For Drama" since they're all a-muddle now. Or have those divisions done away with, I'm not sure which would be better.

I'd personally prefer a hard split, but that's me being a splitter.

Hmmm....the phrases "hard split" and "groin attack" are disagreeable in juxtaposition grin

The fact that one is a more direct attack on one's ability to procreate does feel to me like it is a notable difference.

I can see a hard split working; something like Nutshots Are Hilarious and Groin Attacks Always Work or something like that.

Boom Nut Shot is horrible, but I couldn't resist posting it.

Boom Nut Shot is an awesome name

Also: Panel 4 is a good Image for Nut Shots Are Hilarious or whatever it's going to be called..

The nutshot in that one isn't very obvious — it almost looks like Belkar is hitting the back of the guys thigh. It would make a better page quote.

Come to think of it, I also like a hard split.

It's not like some writer spent a year working with a martial artist to develop the technique for his book. It's a kick in the nuts, it happens. The fiction is what happens around it. When every male character crosses his legs and sucks in his breath (including a nearby horse) and a couple of ping pong balls pop out of the strikee's mouth, we have the work of a writer and it is different work to making the testicles the Standard Male Kick Area.

Not exclusive tropes though and it's on slightly different lines than Played For Comedy and Played for Drama but I don't really buy "Played for Drama". Does that just mean "Not played for comedy"? Played for a source of angst?

Ok, maybe not Played For Drama. Played as a valid (if "dirty") fighting technique? Played realistically? Whatever the opposite of "Oh hoho, isn't it funny that he just took a nutshot" is

My choice would be that Groin Attack remain the main page and then a comedy variant is broken off, simply because comedy is such a vastly different set up.

^ In the cold light of morning and coffee, that sounds like a good idea.

@SSOT, here's what the Played for Drama Page actually says: "If something is Played For Drama, it is being used with the intention to be serious" so a groin attack that meant to be an effective attack and taken seriously is being Played for Drama as opposed to Played for Laughs ("it is being used with the intention to be comedic").

Keep Groin Attack for serious examples and make a comedic hard split. That said, I would rather NOT use Order of the Stick to represent the image, but that's a possible discussion for another time.

Yeah, there is no actual groin attack in the OOTS image. Not the best one we could use by a long shot.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

Nut Shot would be my choice for comedic example, as that's obviously a less serious version. I'd prefer something that gives a clue that it's comedic though.

That's why I suggested Nutshots Are Hilarious. I've heard "nut shot" used when the person wasn't trying to be funny — it's just what they always call them.

[up] So.... anyone up for designing a YKTTW based around this theme? I would, but creative design is, unfortunately, not a strong point.
