It occurs to me that Wangnan is actually a very secretive guy. I mean, he didn't tell the others about Viole's motivation until he had to, He's keeping his real reason for wanting to take part in the Workshop battle quiet, and, of course, we still don't know who he really is and what the significance of his ring is.
Strange, considering he wears his heart on his sleeve.
Interested to see where this new devil of the right hand plot thread ends up going.

I'm not sure about what I think of the last year's worth of To G chapters. The cast is significantly more bland. If characters in Season 1 were anywhere near as boring as Wangnan, Goseng or Horyang (or any other characters introduced in this season, really), then I would have never bothered with this story past the first few chapters. I'm going to keep reading because I want to read (new) chapters featuring Anak, Hatsu, Androssi and Rak once again, but I AM very disappointed with To G right now...

I think that has to do with the current setting more then anything else. In season 1, there is the "farmer boy" figuring out what is going on and going after a (relatively) clear goal. Everyone else is trying to prove themselves and figure out how they will continue up the tower.
In season 2 the overall plot/goal is much more ambiguous and the characters know what they are doing. With no continuing antagonists (like the testers on the second floor) and the need for everyone to be properly introduced, it is hard to keep the pace up and have good team/friendship/character building interactions.
...At least, that is the best way I can describe it.
Another thing that is holding back season 2 is that it has all been set-up for whatever happens in this workshop battle. Whatever is going to happen, both teams need strong people/teamwork and one of the "devils". Everything we have seen has been build-up for that.

I don't know I'd agree with the thing about the new characters being more bland. Miseng and Goseng aren't exactly the best, and most of Koon's new teammates are… underdeveloped, but the others are good.
I mean, comparing Wangnan to Leesoo, or Horyang to Hatsu. If you subtract the force of familiarity from the latter in each pair, I thin you'll find that the former has a lot more going for them.

It's actually kinda funny, we know more about Wangnan and Horyang than we do about Leesoo or Hatsu, but the latter two are simply much more interesting characters. Because their interactions with other characters were extremely entertaining, it doesn't really matter that they never got any flashbacks (like Horyang did) or tons of thinking about stuff (like Wangnan).
As for the "build up" explanation: Season 1 had a slow start, but I was hooked just a few chapters in. Evankhell's Hell chapters were not particularly eventful, but the characters they featured made them fun to read. (And the story felt like it had direction, but even if it didn't, the characters still would have been enough to hook me.)
(People don't tend to cite Evankhell's Hell as their favourite arc, but when you think about it, the way those four chapters were put together was pretty much flawless.)

Parakewl definitely was more interesting than any of the Season 2 characters. (But I guess the word "effective" would be more fitting for his character. He functioned in his role well. And he was sufficiently memorable!)
