^Thats really USA and European centric attitude Since I'm pretty sure that "Every culture in history has been patriarchal" is bs
Hey, I will willingly admit that I only know about American, British, and Japanese culture. Every other country is a total mystery to me.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I mean.
See, there were some. Maybe still are.
Like, Boudicca and her tribe.
Some of the Vikings and Norse had Women leaders and Women in high roles.
We have letters from Roman Senators decrying how outrageous it was that there were women fighting in the Colosseum. Which at least tells us it was a thing that happened.
...Which, I mean. One of the things with Boudicca is that the Romans cheated her people of their land after her husband died and denied her claim to his property or kingship because of her sex.
There's a thing about history being written by the victors, right? And, well. The more patriarchal societies are the ones that ended up taking over the world. Cultural imperialism and stuff. They got to write the history books.
I mean, in science alone there are dozens of discoveries made by female researchers that their male colleagues have stolen the credit for. And the Nobel Peace Prize committee doesn't take back its awards in light of further evidence, and doesn't give awards posthumously.
So it's not that other forms of society have never existed. It's that they were conquered, and erased, and forgotten about. They don't get to be in most of the history books.
Kinda sad, really.
...Also a bit off-topic.

A short story or manga or even game that focuses on the forgotten, erased and conquered cultures that Samus finds herself exploring on some worlds would be pretty neat.
I disagree. I think they're more about atmosphere and exploration.
...okay, at least, that's what I enjoy about them. I honestly wouldn't mind doing away with the RPG mechanics, if it meant having smoother gameplay.
I once thought that permanently collecting subweapons, Metroid-style, would be a little weird. But then Julius and Soma and Jonathan and Charlotte and Shanoa rolled around...
The IGA Castlevania games are still about exploration, they just have a greater focus on combat compared to Mertoid, for the most part. However, if you want to play an IGA Castlevania that's extremely like Metroid, play Castlevania Circle Of The Moon. In that game, you level up very slowly and your weapon, the Vampire Killer, only upgrades about the same number of times as the Power Beam does in Super Metroid (if not less). It's also very hard.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Your whip doesn't upgrade at all in Circle.
You just get card combos you can add to it. The card combos are from random drops.
I wouldn't characterize Circle as being the most Metroid-like though — because the controls weren't very smooth. (Seriously, double-tap to run?)

Oh yeah, that was Harmony of Dissonance that upgraded the whip like that. I already started replaying Portrait of Ruin because of this so now I guess I'll end up replaying all of the handheld entries (aside from Order of Ecclesia).
Still, controls aside, I think Circle of the Moon is closer to Metroid than any of the other titles. It has that card system, sure, but I can't recall using it all that much.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Miyamoto Metroid? WHY CAN'T I SHOVE ALL MY MONEY THROUGH THE E-SHOP?!
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! If you touched any of the Prime games, you've played a Miyamoto Metroid. The man's got good ideas when he's not being lead by committee.
I sure said that!If anything, I think that the more RPG-ish weapons systems in games like Aria and (especially) Portrait are more Metroid-y in terms of upgrades. Maybe more fine-grained in variety rather than just a few notable upgrades, but it's definitely there.
Harmony had...well I guess it had a few interchangeable attachments that could be regarded as upgrades. Including a charge beam whip.
Circle is definitely a rather large game, and it frequently feels more "open". Maybe that's part of the reason.
Harmony, on the other hand, seems very much about twisty mazes of passageways, somewhat alike. Then again, some parts of Metroid games are like this too.
I'd be against Platinum doing Metroid in all honesty. Metroid's not a ballsout action fest, it'd be just plain wrong seeing it all done up like Rising. So yeah, bring back Retro or let Miyamoto have a try.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowWe already have a Platinum Metroid game. Two of them in fact. It's called Bayonetta.
Anyway, while I don't want a Platinum Metroid game, a spin-off probably wouldn't be that bad. They would just need to emphasize that it's a spin-off, like Hyrule Warriors. Still, there are plenty of better Nintendo franchises that Platinum would be better suited for, so they should stay away from Metroid.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.I don't understand that first bit at all.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! There's a Samus costume in the Bayonetta games, complete with arm cannon shooting, visor flipping, and a few other things.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I really don't think Platinum is ill-suited for Metroid at all. Aside from their core strength being action, Bayonetta, MGR, W101 and Vanquish are all very different in tone, pace and style, with the latter in particular having a great set of fast-paced, high-mobility mechanics that could enable some very interesting combat and exploration in a Metroid game. And seeing what Kamiya alone has directed in the past; Okami being a more relaxed action adventure, the first DMC being essentially a 3D realisation of Castlevania and Resident Evil 2 being a tightly-paced horror game; I think they'd definitely be able to create something worthy of the series if they set out to do so. Especially if they got Mikami involved as well, as with Vanquish.
I also would be particularly interested in seeing what their art and music teams would put together for such a project - looking at Yong-Hee Cho's MGR cyborg designs; the beautiful, striking environments designed for Bayonetta and its sequel, and the consistently impeccable soundtracks spanning a wide range of genres and influences, they'd undoubtedly bring something special to the series.
...Yeah, Kamiya doesn't always do games which are full-throttle action all the time. Okami basically had the pace of a Zelda game, and even W101 backed off on the throttle on occasion.
I have a message from another time...It'd be interesting to see Platinum do a Metroid game, but I agree with the idea that it should be a spinoff. It'd be safer from They Changed It, Now It Sucks! criticisms that way.
What is a fandom? A miserable little pile of flame wars! 3DS FC: 0387-9377-7408 PSN ID: Raven King SageOh god, Zebes Warriors came into mind.
Also, Metroid is very reminiscent of Alien(s): It's all about pace and atmosphere.
I still kinda wanna see what would happen if Kojima got his hands on a Metroid game.
Oh really when?"WHAT ARE YOUR MEMES SAMUS?"
-shrug-
Who would we play as in Zebes Warriors?
I can see Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Ridley, Anthony, Dark Samus, Rundas, Ghor, Gandrayda, and U-Mos, at least. Maybe Adam as well, or the Space Pirate Commander.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Silux, Weavel.
Oh really when?
In theory, America and probably England are supposed to be this way.
In practice, no and it probably never will.
