I heard that the game is coming out shortly. I'm interested in it. Monster Hunter is a beautiful niche game, I cuss the thing out for being difficult and grindy and yet it's provides the most satisfying sense of accomplishment I've ever experienced from a game.
At worst, I hope it's a good MH clone. I do want it to be a damn good addition to the "fight a giant boss" "genre". Main thing I'm afraid of is not having the time and patience to play the game. Half afraid of playing MH Tri/PSP Tri because you have to start over, least afraid a new game with new mechanics and the like.
"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984It's out on March 15 in North America and March 18 in Europe.
Downloading the demo right now. Hope it doesn't disappoint or is too obtuse to understand in Japanese. Or requires a PS 3 for some stupid reason. Or whatever.
Yeah, doesn't work, everything is in Japanese, and I'm too fucking stupid to handle simple tasks like getting software to operate.

"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984English Trailer for God Eater.
Hyped for Hyperdimension Neptunia V 2Playing it so far, it's actually really fun. Since it has actual characters in it I'd say it's even worth its own tropes page...too lazy to start one now, though. Busy playing Gods Eater. :P
I played the heck out of both Japanese demos (original and Burst) and picked up the NA version today. Pretty much the same, aside from actually being able to know what's going on. It's kind of a pain though, since the JPN Burst demo was pretty much the first 3 parts of the game, I'm essentially doing it all over again.
The dub is passable, but some of the name pronunciations got pretty mangled. Also, despite the name change and in-game subtitles reading "Gods Eater", everyone just says "God Eater". While it avoids the fact that "Gods Eater" sounds really dumb when you say it out loud, at the same time you wonder why they couldn't have just kept the old name.
-__OBecause people are overly sensitive to the word God in the west.
I wonder if anyone on tropes will be willing to use adhoc to play. I doubt anyone I know will be playing this.

First page launch ever! Self-congratulations aside, please help if you can! I'd put more into it now except it's kinda late and I've got a final tomorrow. Woooo stereotypes!

-__OBullet editing hurts my head.
Do you think that some of the Aragi have some shades of Captain Ersatz to some Monster Hunter monsters? I mean, Hannibal is best described as Nargacuga on steroids and the game itself is best described as Monster Hunter on Speed.
Hyped for Hyperdimension Neptunia V 2Thanks for starting the page, I'll add a few tropes as I see 'em.
Am I the only one who consider God Eater a watered-down Monster Hunter? MH is strictly more about rewarding hardwork. Then again God Eater is much better than Square Enix's attempt at copying MH.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life. You mean Lord of Arcana?
Got the game. It's a great deal of fun, with a likeable cast, a somewhat different localization, and good combat. I honestly consider better than Monster Hunter (though my experience with it is somewhat limited).
And in semi/ not-really-the-game-itself related news, Shio and Soma will be playing a little baseball in the future.

Its different enough from monster hunter to stand out, namely the movement of your character.
You are ALOT more mobile than monster hunter characters.
...I'm tempted to go with Tsukasa's voice, just because it's adorable...
Fought an Ouroboros just now. And man I find it hrd to believe that it is possible to solo that thing. I'll probably solo it later. In other news, anyone else takeing advantage of making custom bullets? Because I am not.
Hyped for Hyperdimension Neptunia V 2Just got through the original God(s) Eater part of the story, which leads me mention the games other theme songs (though you might want to avoid them if you haven't heard them in-game yourself) alan's "My Life" which you might recgonize as the song Shio sung ealier in the game, and "God and Man" which is sung by Donna Burke.
Bullet Editing is more or less useless to me, as the basic ones you start out with are pretty useful throughout the game. Its also too complicated and time consuming to deal with.

I just started to notice how different this game is from Monster Hunter. Alot more control over attacks, faster kills even when soloing (5 to 10 mintues a hunt, in monster hunter a good 20 to 30 minutes), and helpful AI allies.
Hyped for Hyperdimension Neptunia V 2Had a chance to try it for about half an hour or so. I was surprised to see that you create a character, the team's new rookie, at the start. I was under the impression you picked one of the story characters, could change hair/clothing color, and played as one of them.
Takes a bit of getting used to it's mechanics versus Monster Hunter. Shooting seems as counter-intuitive and difficult as it's predecessor, hoping I can learn it or that I'm not expected to learn it to succeed. You can play Monster Hunter without ever touching a ranged weapon, in God Eater you always have a melee and ranged weapon on you.
"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984Currently addicted to the game. I'm nearing Rank 5 missions right now.
As for the aiming system, it can be a pain. Generally, the best way to go is to lock on to the enemy in melee and then switch to your gun to hit them. You can also always buy homing lasers, and later on, you can make homing bullets yourself.
Playing the game, currently on Rank 8. There are some things that should be added, like the
Ark project
. Also, you might see credits at around Rank 7. Do not be fooled! You are only about halfway through the game. (Although I dunno why they would put the credits there.)
I'm guessing that's where God Eater ended, and God Eater Burst begins at rank 8.
Okay, stupid question time.
I know that you can use player characters from other people's copies of the game as A.I. controlled partners, but can you make partners yourself? Or do they have to come from someone else's game?
"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"
From the makers of the Tales Series, Namco Bandi tried make a game that would be as popular as Monster Hunter. What they made was God Eater (page not made...YET!). I don't know much about the plot but I do know it has faster gameplay then Monster Hunter. I can best describe it as "Take Monster Hunter, add in all the content that everyone who hasn't played Monster Hunter for more than 100 hours complained that wasn't there (lock on, jumping), and add morph weapons. Opening Song is Over the Clouds and the opening for the Updated Release is Over the Clouds Burst Mix. Demos can be legally (yes they are legal) here. Should be in Europe and America sometime in 2011. So yeah, discuss the game.
