Just announced.

It'll have to do, with no Dark Alliance 3 announcements in the foreseeable future.

What's the point in using the D&D license if you aren't going to follow the mechanics anywhere near the original?

I..kinda like it. >.> Im just strange though.

No matter how fast the tech evolves, how wonderful the graphics change. Sometimes its the IDEA that makes the game better, not money.

[up]x3 So they can used beholders, drow and umber hulks? I guess?

It's true though. Dungeons and Dragons has the "Generic fantasy" feel down to a T. Probably intentionally so. Making something just like it with the trademarks filed off is about as difficult as slaying an angry puppy with a +2 short sword. And it's not like it has much in the way of brand recognition.

That aside, looks fun. Lots and lots of stuff to kill + many ways to do it is a recipe for success in my book.

It would have much in the way of brand recognition if they would either stick to the core mechanics or make more use of the setting, like they did with Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter Nights (expansions) or Icewind Dale.

The trailer showcased a complete lack of story elements except for "Kill stuff", the gameplay looks dull and the graphics dated and unimaginative. Maybe Atari's PR department just dropped the ball. But considering Torchlight 2 - maybe even Diablo 3 - will be out next year to scratch the Hack & Slash itch, I'm not holding my breath.

Some new info:

  • First game of a trilogy
  • First game is levels 1-10, second is 10-20, third is epic tier 20-30 - all 4th ed D&D rules
  • PCs can be carried over Mass Effect-style from game to game.
  • Demo before release.

Well, if it plays like Neverwinter Nights with 4E rules, then I'll be a happy little monkey.

It won't, it'll play like Dark Alliance or Diablo.

I'm still waiting for a Dungeons & Dragons video game that plays like Dungeons and Fucking Dragons, personally.

D&D playing like Diablo? Blasphemy!

Completely lost interest there.

But but how is it based on 4e then? Will it be races/classes then??? I can't tell if this could be fun, or really, really stupid. If it has pretty open class/race choice, and doesn't gimp you for making suboptimal choices, eladrin melee ranger, I will be happy. If it turns out like Lot R:War in the North and restricts class/race I will be annoyed.

Full Frontal Nerdity just compared it to Gauntlet. Which reminded me that Get Medieval needed more love.

I beg your pardon. The Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games were awesome.

Dark Alliance II was and still is - even counting Torchlight - the best console ''Diablo'-style RPG.

To be honest, out of all future RP Gs I know about, this game, together with Neverwinter Nights 3, are the ones I am least interested in.

From all things I know about the game, there is not a single one that makes me look forward to it.
