It's coming back?

Jazz Jackrabbit was an excellent PC version of Sonic. Better in some ways.

Oh my god, I'm watching TacticalLP's Let's Play of the first Jazz Jackrabbit, and in that he mentioned Cliffy and his recent habits several times.

EDIT: Actually, I think the new game is/was an iOS game.

[down]Dammit. Still, go watch Tac's LP of the original.

Never mind. It's a twin-stick shooter for the iPod. What a blasphemy. :(

You know I picked the shareware version of the first game from abandonia and I must say it did not age too well. Continuing Is Painful hits like a hammer and my Nostalgia Filter failed to register anything worth playing for

On the other hand The second game was actually quite enjoyable

Visually maybe, but gameplay—no. Jazz Jackrabbit is Super Mario Bros holding down "run".

Yeah. I didn't like it.

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is one of my favorite nostalgic game ever. News of JJ's possible return fills me with unbridled joy.

JJ 2 was a big part of my PC-exclusive gaming childhood (my parents would never get me a console), though I never played the first one. It sure made not being able to play any of the other Sonics aside from CD (at least till I got hold of the Mega Collection for PC they put out) less painful. It'd be pretty sweet if we were getting a new one or an update.
^ Sonic and knuckles (Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic 3 and Knuckles) collection says hello from my childhood. In fact I reccomend you guys tracking it down. The midi music sounds much better in some parts of the game(s) than the original genesis game(s)
I once got a Sega collection that included S Onic CD, Sonic 3 and Knuckles (music was terrible), Vectorman, Vectorman 2, Shining Force 2, and

Apparently, the sheer mass of memory drain from installing/playing it was the beginning of a downward spiral that that computer never truly recovered from.

I kind of have the feeling that nobody remembers JJ 1, but when they're being nostalgic, they're thinking about JJ 2. And rightly so, JJ 2 was amazing.
The one I got had all the Sonic games up through Sonic CD, plus Sonic R and the Sega Collection, which included awesome stuff like Vectorman 1/2. I wonder where they all went...
Sounds like you had the same one as me.
Guess so. Good times, Good times. Even if Sonic R was the only one I ever beat :P

I remember liking the first and second, and being unimpressed by the GBA game.

I should fire up Jazz Jackrabbit it DOSBox sometime. I really overdue for another playthrough of the original. I just hope I can remember where all the secret levels are...

The second one had a lot of amazing qualities, though also some glaring weaknesses in terms of engine and difficulty. The engine likes to get you stuck in walls, and the easiness is basically inherent in the game and is hard to get rid of even in custom levels without abusing Fake Difficulty, what with how you've got 5 hearts, a gun with infinite ammo and fast shots and almost all your enemies are slow, die quickly and have no AI.

It's also kinda ridiculous how Jazz is worse than Spaz in just about every way.

That said, I love the game for its style, fun basic gameplay, potential for creativity and amazing soundtrack, and it was pretty much my gateway to the internets, for better or for worse.

Never mind. It's a twin-stick shooter for the iPod. What a blasphemy. :(

Sadly, the Abandonware version of JJ 2 that's everywhere doesn't have all the content and, in fact, is missing the exit to one of the levels, requiring you to skip both it and the level that comes directly after it. A damn shame, cause from the soundtrack that level's music sounds awesome.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles (music was terrible),

Oh, dear. You seriously crossed the line saying that Known.

He means the PC port, where the music was replaced with MID Is and any song that had sampling in it was removed. So no Ice Cap Zone, no mid-boss and Knuckles themes, no Launch Base Zone, and everything else sounded weightless and blah. I know, I have that version.

You don't know how badly I was thinking that a thread this old getting bumped was making me hope there was some new news.

You know. Besides that terrible iPhone game.

...Seriously, making a decent 2D Jazz reboot would probably cost about half of what the average Gears of War sequel takes in development costs.
