Yes, other than the huge, glaring, heinously boring flaw, the game is perfect?
I loved the cutscenes and story. Travis is one of the best characters ever to come from a video game. But yes, everything outside of the missions sucked. I'm almost convinced that it was meant to be some sort of commentary on how terribly boring sandbox games are though.
I have a few qualms with the battle system itself, as well.
Well, that's addressed in the sequel. I was really surprised with how fun the minigames were in that one.
...The sequel improves greatly the gameplay, but the assasins are better in the first one.

I can't stop listening to thisAccording to the new Gameinformer, Konami picked up the PS 3 re-release for release in 2011. It'll have a few more extras, and the option to use PS Move.
So who here wanted to play as Ryuji or face him again? Did suda purposly make a player punch or not?

gotta stay coolAlice is the best boss hands down guys. just saying.
Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally!I'm... ready to be disappointed and find out it's the next shovelware title with a popular franchise/character stitched onto it in order to sell units.
But... if not, time to make a wishlist of bizarre assassins for Travis to fight. That Suda 51 will never read but will nevertheless feel a twitch of psychic energy in the back of his mind, hopefully aligning some of my ideas with his.
No More Heroes ended on such an odd note it really deserves another game. And hopefully he balances the hub world with actual gameplay this time.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I just hope the tones of the assassins is more in line with the first game and not the second. The second game went too far with stupid stuff like helms and the football mecha guy.

My main problem with 2nd game's assassins is that a lot of them had no personality. Million Gunman and Ryuji felt like filler in particular. The goth chick and Baby Huey the revenant weren't much better.
Different strokes there. I remember far more of the second game's assassins than the first's. Captain Vladimir, Margaret Moonlight, and Alice in particular all had far more memorable fights than the majority of the ones in the first game in my opinion. Mimmy too, but that was less her and more who you were playing as. That being said, Jasper Batt Jr. is an awful main antagonist (which was the point, but whatever).

This song needs more love.I used to think the same, but someone wrote up a lengthy analysis of Desperate Struggle's assassins that I found kind of interesting.
I vaguely remember an even longer analysis of Ryuji, so long I didn't bother to read all of it but the time spent analyzing him was something to behold. Wish I could find it.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!And now someone else did a lengthy analysis of the first game:
2020 for 3
Trailer
Yep, this is 100% a Suda game.
I have to admit, when they first showed that trailer, my reaction was "hey, that sounds like Travis Touchdown... but they wouldn't be doing a third NMH game, right? Wait, they are? Yes!"
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Didn't expect NMH 3, friggin sweet!
I wonder if they use droids so they can tone down the violence for the trailer. Hope the gore is still intact.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Destroyman and Kimmy are coming back?
Oh f-ck the hell yes. I really hope Suda's figured out a good balance between "diverse level design" amd memortable boss fight" so that I'm not tearing through an obnoxiously long shopping mall just to get to an awesome boss battle. Or playing through an amusing bus fight just to fight an underwhelming boss.
I remember joking with a friend once that Destroyman would return as a quartet. This is somehow better.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!That Kimmy Howell design looks like a completely unrelated character they changed at the last minute.
This song needs more love. The new Kimmy Howell design was done by Mari Shimazaki, best known for being the character designer for Bayonetta. Which, uh, doesn't surprise me one bit.

Still playing through the first one.
As great as this game is, something about it seriously bugs me:
Mainly, everything that's not the Beat 'em Up segment. The part time jobs are NOT fun (Unless Thats The Point?) and the featureless Wide-Open Sandbox is unnecessary and would be The Great Sea from Wind Waker if there was nothing to really see or do.
Other than that, the game is perfect.
