Prototype 2:

551 Keybreak, Thu, 3rd May '12 6:46:51 PM from amid it all Relationship Status: [TOP SECRET]
Patsying was useful...not much, but stealth bio-bombing is more fun. [lol]

The lack of air strikes was unfortunate too, but now that bases and lairs are indestructible they wouldn't be that useful.

And I'm just considering the Alex skin to be James disguised as him.
I would rather fail in my own way than succeed by someone else's.
I think the whole thing may have been a gambit on Mercers part to get heller to consume him. considering alex's quote at the end.

...did you know that if you shoot a building with a rocket then a chunk with fall out?

Also you can put down people by pressing down on the control pad.

Well. All this invincibility has given me the itch to play GTA 4. I might want to download those other stories...if I want to spend the money.

I'm a bit disappointed about the movement. It's a shame that they removed the ability to slide down buildings and stick to walls. James's parkour animations aren't as cool as Mercer's, and I miss being able to use Air Dash to leap enormous heights. I also don't like how jumping works now; I prefered the charging up system from Prototype 1.

Other than that, I like how the powers are well-balanced this time around, and dismemberment is cool.

Could've been better, but it is a good game. I'd put it in the same league as The Darkness 2, which missed a few things from the previous game, but managed to be good, if a bit flawed.

Angry Moth
That feel when you use a sneak bio-bomb to make a distraction so that you can eat someone, and 1 second before you do so, you see a tendril grab that guy you were about to eat.
Who's an angry moth? You are! Yes you are! You're the fuzziest and angriest moth!

Haha, that's bad luck.

My current favourite thing in this game (I'm on New Game + now) is standing on a rooftop and using the Whipfist's frankly ridiculous range to grab a consume target right off the street in front of all his buddies.

I have also managed to do that thing where you pounce a target and carry him off before anyone notices. It was more by accident than design, the target happened to be standing on the edge of a roof, so my pounce took him off the edge anyway, and I instantly pressed the consume button, thus slamming him straight down and out of site of other rooftop enemies, and miraculously there were no street level ones.

I hear the first DLC is out today, does anyone have it?
I love it when a plan comes together, Clarice.

If I have time today I'll probably try. I still didn't get the Bio-Bomb Buttkicker, but from what I've read it's not much better than just throwing someone. ;p

I think I'll probably have to do the game over again on Insane mode to make any real use of those new toys. Hard mode was practically Normal with all the mutations I had.

Even insane is easy with all the mutation. Me and Marc went directly from normal to Insane, and we frankly don't see any difference.

On an unrelated note, I noticed something funny: Whenever you grab a military to eat them, Heller will just eat them quickly like if they were just civilians. If you grab a Blackwatch however, he'll give them the full gory service, with a side order of pain.

Course. Cause he was a Marine, and "I'm not in fuckin' Blackwatch."

And also, downloaded Colossal Mayhem. The Thermobaric Boomstick makes Heller (un)godly invincible, and it has infinite ammo.

Air Time makes things easier, Warp Vortex is just pretty, and Anti Gravity Field just makes everything go flying when you hit it once.

And Infected Heller is the only new skin that does something different, namely make him talk Zombie. ;p

Of course. I was just pointing it out, I liked that little detail.

Also, can you get the DLC through Radnet? I looked at it, and it just said "Coming soon".

Yes?

I got it by buying it at Gamestop and then getting the download code off Poweruprewards.com.

Though now I'm curious for that other DLC coming out and if I'll buy it. I didn't get the best version of Prototype 2, but I was hoping I could buy anything new later.

Time to roll the dice
Something I found out about the Force Multiplyers.

It tells you when you turn them on that achievement progress and events are turned off when you use them. It does not, however, tell you that it still autosaves. And because of this, I screwed myself out of an achievement, the Finally Full one that requires getting all the consume upgrades. I had Force Multiplyers on when I got my last consume upgrade, which means I didn't get the achievement, and it won't register even when I start a new game+. That's what I get for not making a save file and using autosave the entire time.

I think I should still be able to get it if I start a completely new game. It's a little annoying, but shouldn't take too long. I don't normally go achievement hunting, but this is one of those games where I can actually get all of them.

Does anyone have any idea on what sort of timespan this covers, weeks or months for example?

Also I'd really like to examine the Infected Heller skin up close, looks nice.

The Infected skin actually is pretty cool. It glows whenever you use powers, which is a really nice touch.

Screw the King.
Just finished Insanity mod.

The whole playthrough was easy-peasy because of all my mutations. That is, until I reached the final boss. I'm a video-game masochist, but insanity Mercer is just so mean! I can't even heal decently. In the end, I killed him and got my platinum, but by all right Mercer should've won if insanity mod was cannon. I mean, Heller wouldn't stand a chance. But meh, it's insanity for a reason.
ARYA! I'm telling you, I've looked that King right in his eye socket, and I've said- I've said it, I've said... yaaaaarp

I still don't think it's the Mercer from the first game. Even considering the character changing stuff that happens in the midquel comics, this game's Mercer acts way too much like a Card-Carrying Villain, or whatever the trope is. He doesn't act vengeful or angry, he's just snide and snarky. It's like this game was written by completely different people who didn't play the first game.

That's sort of another problem I have with this game, too many characters have this snarky, snide attitude most of the time and try to make these sort of sarcastic jokes. Heller delves into it too sometimes, when he's not being (IMO) an incredibly stereotypical Scary Black Man that becomes almost Blaxploitation. First game Mercer wasn't the deepest or most complex character, but he was at least interesting and he seemed genuinely angry. I get that Heller is supposed to be really angry too, but it's really hard to take him seriously sometimes. Rated M for Manly to the point of Testosterone Poisoning I guess. They tried a little too hard at injecting "attitude" into this game, so it just ends up looking silly.

That he seems to surrender angst for just having fun killing people?

Maybe. Gameplay and Story Segregation I say. In the cutscenes he DOES seem pretty serious about it.

And I'll probably throw in my name for the Not-The-Real-Alex Theory. He was pretty standardly evil about it.

or maybe it could be the real alex. (I.E. Real!Alex took over Virus!Alex, possibly with the help of Greene.)

wild mass guess"Alex" is still in control. However, between original!Alex, Greene, and his instincts as The Virus, his sense of right and wrong have gradually changed. He infected Heller before his Face-Heel Turn was complete because he knew that eventually he would need to be stopped. Hence his Graceful Loser status. He planned it all alongwild mass guess

Screw the King.
Wait.

You're saying Blacklight started another outbreak, created several infected for his plan, and then he would create one last infected... To stop him? After all his effort?

I want to believe in a redeemed Blacklight/Alex, but it sounds unlikely to me.

(I'm not calling the virus Mercer anymore, he's far too gone. I'll refer to him as Blacklight)

No, this was still the virus from the first game.
