I still don't think it's the Mercer
from the first game. Even considering the character changing stuff that happens in the midquel comics, this game's Mercer
acts way too much like a Card-Carrying Villain
, or whatever the trope is. He doesn't act vengeful or angry, he's just snide and snarky. It's like this game was written by completely different people who didn't play the first game.
That's sort of another problem I have with this game, too many characters have this snarky, snide attitude most of the time and try to make these sort of sarcastic jokes. Heller delves into it too sometimes, when he's not being (IMO) an incredibly stereotypical Scary Black Man
that becomes almost Blaxploitation. First game Mercer wasn't the deepest or most complex character, but he was at least interesting and he seemed genuinely angry. I get that Heller is supposed to be really angry too, but it's really hard to take him seriously sometimes. Rated M for Manly

I guess. They tried a little too hard at injecting "attitude" into this game, so it just ends up looking silly.
