That means that they could be obviously playing their special violin, trumpet and synth, and in the background, are accompanying themselves with a full orchestra, perhaps even one of those orchestras that also contains rock equipment!

X6 Well, that and their instruments aren't normal instruments. They're phantom instruments that can sound like many different instruments. At least, that's what Aya's interview with Lunasa seems to indicate.
Aya: So, since anything is OK, you're saying the violin is your favorite because it produces that result?
Lunasa: No, it's just because the violin is my forte.
Aya: So you're not saying that the instrument is just a decoration after all, huh?
Lunasa: If it weren't my forte I wouldn't be able to play it well, correct? If I can't play it freely, I can't make noise.
Okay, so it sounds like they can make any kind of noise with anything as long as they're good at that anything. I'm almost as confused as Aya.

I guess Lyrica is the Mario of the group. Merlin is "most skilled" with wind instruments and Lunasa is "most skilled" with string instruments but Lyrica is apparently good at a range of things.

According to P Mi SS they play cursed instruments.
I've always seen Lyrica as the Prismriver's secret weapon, Lunasa is the brains and rhythm of the group, and Merlin is the Face Of The Band, if P Mi SS is true.
Alternatively they all break up to go solo. 20 years later they join up with Mystia and form MystiRiver.

I like that random trivia. Its like a ritual or a trademark quirk. Before every performance, they get on stage, adjust their instruments and then tell the audience that they are cursed phantom instruments that eat jazz blood or that was the finest violin ever crafted by an eccentric craftsman. The audience stays silent because they know this bit but they are still in anticipation. And then after standing there quietly holding their cursed instruments, the Prismrivers drop them except they don't drop they float and announce their first song. And the crowd erupts into cheers.

If you completely ignore the dialouge in PCB, you could infer that all the Prismrivers wanted to do was to play songs for the protagonists but the protagonists are dicks so they shot amulets/magic/knives at them until they shut up.

Alternatively, the protagonists are the type to break into a concert without paying and that cheeses the Prismrivers right off. They have a family to feed after all.

You know, Prismrivers are among the least likely to eat people. They even have high human friendship level and low threat level according to Hieda "Don't Stick Your Hand Into Floating Dark Orbs, Dumbass" no Akyuu. But, yeah, anyone that tries to sneak into a concert is going to be dog meat.
They also hate people who download their songs off of the internet. After someone explained to them what the internet was.

Meet the Prismrivers
Kisaragi 9th of 1964 three young poltergeists from the other side of The Misty Lake invaded Gensokyo with their classically inspired orchestras. Young girls and youkai alike frenzied at the sight of the three noisy spirits. Individually, they were known as Lunasa, Lyrica, and Merlin. But together they are known as: THE PRISMRIVERS!
Tonight, the Terrific Three are holding their first ever concert in Hakugyokuro. According to my sources over 75 million people have come to watch their performance.
Yeah, there was supposed to be more but I have writer's block so I'll write more as I remember. Basically, it's the Prismriver's rise to stardom in Gensokyou while parodying The Beatles, because why not?
