The New Touhou Character Alternate Interpretation Compendium!:
Regarding Remilia's treatment of Sakuya and others... The way I see it she's just extremely possessive. Those are her servants or her friends, and to mistreat them is by extension to mistreat her stuff. And she's certainly not going to mistreat her own stuff. Greed is after all pretty much the same thing as love, for most purposes. So she loves Sakuya and Patchouli and Meiling and all the fairies, but that's just an extension of fundamental feeling of ownership and duty. The master of the household has responsibilities, you know? It's her household so it damn well better be the best household ever. Incidentally, this seems to extend outside of her household too. She has no enemies: she only has allies she hasn't recruited yet. Everyone is welcome to assist the Scarlets in their journey towards glory, if they so choose.Noblesse oblige?
Three StepsI believe I said that on page 258.
"Justice!"Indeed you did. In the comedy business, they call that a "callback".
Angel of Draconic WisdomCan anyone direct me to doujins about remilia? Download or danbooru, i don't care.
Doing nothing is a choice.
"Justice!"I'm sure somebody can, though I can't vouch for whether or not the comics in question will be any good. You might want to ask in the main Touhou thread too, because there are probably some people who read that thread but not this one.

Three StepsI recommend Silent Sinner in Blue. It's a crazy story about Remilia building a rocket and going to the moon, but the writer sticks remarkably close to canon given the the absurdity of the premise. Well, nothing's perfect of course.
Hakunon's Strange QuestReally? I haven't read it yet myself, but I heard bad things about it. I heard that it focused too much on two overpowered O Cs over the main characters and the plot gets very confusing. Just going along with (what I think is) the joke. Move along. ON TOPIC: Blood is amazing!
Angel of Draconic WisdomI've already read S Si B (well most of it anyways...) and it doesn't seem to focus on the watatsuki sisters, if anything, their only side characters. And if their canon characters, they can't really be OC's can they?

Doing nothing is a choice.
Hakunon's Strange QuestI figured as much. However, the way the fandom complains about them sometimes...Geez. I was just making a joke. (Continuing a joke?) ON TOPIC: Blood is amazing! ...I probably have better things to say about Remilia, I just can't think of them now. Someone want to give us a subtopic?
Angel of Draconic WisdomWhether they were born vampire or were turned? or have we already discussed that?
Doing nothing is a choice.
Hakunon's Strange QuestI think we discussed that during the SDM discussion? Not sure if we went in detail on it though. To rephrase my opinion on it: I personally think we should assume they were born unless proven otherwise. Besides, Scarlet does sound like a vampire-y name, at least to me. This may come from me not wanting to envision two 10-14ish year old girls being brutally bitten and drained by some creep vampire. Wait, crap.

Angel of Draconic WisdomI dunno. I always liked to think they were turned. Otherwise, then are all vampires trapped in kid form forever? Also, I've vampires do plenty worse than bite kids...

This may come from me not wanting to envision two 10-14ish year old girls being brutally bitten and drained by some creep vampire. Wait, crap. They're supposed to be even younger than that. Isn't that a lovely mental image? In any case, as long as one is making up a source of their vampirism, it's not unreasonable to assume that they started out looking older and then de-aged in a Byakuren-esque fashion when they were transformed.
Three StepsEven if they were turned, there's no reason to assume that they wouldn't adopt their sire's name afterwards. Remilia and Flandre may not even have the same parents, but instead have been turned by the same vampire. And Remilia's profile strongly implies that biting is the only way to create new vampires. This is retconned by Akyuu later, who says that bitten people merely become mindless and temporary zombies, but Akyuu's an unreliable narrator so it's still debatable. I've always imagined Flandre being like 8 and Remilia being around 10. I don't really have a basis for that though.

All business! It's also possible that it was an Emergency Transformation in the face of some terrible illness or injury... though that might be even worse, come to think of it. Also, bear in mind that Akyuu might not know exactly how new vampires come to be, considering that the rules for Touhou vampires aren't quite standard. They could have become vampires through a ritual or mistake or by staying up past their bedtime or who knows. Double-ninja'd.

I dunno. I always liked to think they were turned. Otherwise, then are all vampires trapped in kid form forever? They are indeed all trapped as kids forever. That's part of the vampire condition. Which also supports the idea that they can't reproduce normally, because they never reach sexual maturity. ...it it less creepy to imagine that they were turned by another 10 year old vampire?

"My name is Remilia Scarlet. I am a vampire. I am five-hundred years old, the most powerful devil in the realm of the living, owner of the Fated Spear of the Allfather!... And I am forever trapped in the body of a twelve-year old girl. " The Eternally Young Scarlet Moon was not one for writing personal stories, but when Flandre asked to hear of the things that had happened in the last 493 years, she had a hard time saying "no." But that was plenty for today. After all, it wasn't like she had to worry about dying before she finished. I suppose I should be checking on the preparations for Flan's birthday. Sakuya's bound to have roped Meiling and Patches in by now. It should at least be fun to watch. The girl cracked a tiny, devious smile, and began the walk towards her glass elevator. Chaos. Indeed, as of that precise moment, the depths of any of the numerous hells would look pleasant compared to the mess of ribbons and banners and gift wrap currently in the foyer. And then, like a poorly made flipbook, a sudden flash of what Remilia was sure were blades, and in another, a perfectly arranged and decorated room appeared, Meiling and Sakuya tying the knots on the last and largest banner, this being the one reading "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FLANDRE!" "Ah, well done! The room is perfect! I'm sure Flan will love it. It's good you got it done on such short notice, Sakuya, though I'd expect nothing less from you." "Thank you, milady. It is good to hear you-" "However... You really shouldn't force Meiling and Patchouli into such things. I thought we went over this before? Hmm?" "Indeed! Sakuya, where do you-" "Think these party balls go? Thank you for your concern, Miss Patchouli, but I can handle these myself. By the way, thank you for volunteering! I know physical exertion isn't your forte, but it was much appreciated! Meiling, I think that the last few bits of crepe paper should be used to make a walkway from Miss Flandre's room through the library to here; would you please come with me?" And with that, Sakuya and Meiling vanished. "Thanks for playing along, Patches." The Scarlet Devil quietly whispered to her friend. "Hmph. I hope your happy; mystical studies have been set back three days thanks to this... Though I suppose it's for the best; it's been too long since Flan has everyone together." "Oh, just smile already! I know you're just as excited as the rest of us!" Seeing that she and Remilia were the only ones present, Patchouli give a tiny smile, before she covered her mouth and giggled from embarrassment. "There. You feel better? Good. Now help me haul these gifts up to my tearoom. They won't get themselves there alone!"

I've always imagined Flandre being like 8 and Remilia being around 10. I don't really have a basis for that though.I think that's more or less canon. I could have sworn that one source or another is more specific, but all I can find is Perfect Memento saying that Remilia "looks as a little girl under the age of ten".
...it it less creepy to imagine that they were turned by another 10 year old vampire?Slightly.
Hakunon's Strange QuestI never really thought about how squicky the Scarlet Sisters' backstory could be. I do wonder how/if vampires can be made aside from turning, now that you mention it. They can't all be turned, unless you want to explain how the first vampire was turned if there was no vampires to turn him. Also, if a vampire has a kid, is the kid a vampire? Do all vampires stay the age they were turned, and if they were the potential "natural born vampires", do they just age to a certain point than stop? How exactly did the Scarlets become vampires, or were they always that way? (and if they were always that way, why do they still look like children? Sign of maturity? Just being really young in vampire years?) Wait, that last question is what we were already talking about. Well, I can still wonder, even if I already have a theory. EDIT: Ninja'd. And this entire post has been rendered completely pointless. Disregard! Also, a write up! Wonderful! I liked that. Only problem I have with it is that it just sorta...stops. It doesn't end. It stops. Sorry, but it bugs me.

eepThat's because I was stupid and didn't hit select-all for copypasting from notepad. One sec... EDIT: Fixed!

B VillainSo Remilia and Flan are humans turned vampire. That's a possibility. Though what methods could they have become a vampire. They could have been bitten by another vampire or could have died and their corpses returned as a vampire.
That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals.
Hakunon's Strange QuestGroovy. Either they were attacked and drained at ages 8-to-10, or they were outright killed and later brought back via some untold form of magic at that age. No wonder the Scarlets don't have an official backstory. It'd be way too jarring of a mood shift, even if only briefly.

That would be almost as dark as a little girl drowning and returning as a ship-wrecking ghost, or a nun being driven mad by the death of her brother and turning to black magic to prolong her own life.

I've always imagined Flandre being like 8 and Remilia being around 10. I don't really have a basis for that though.I always figured that, since Remilia is about ten-ish and Flandre's 5 years younger, that Flandre was 5 when she was turned. In fact, the separation in ages is the main reason why I go for the "turned" theory. ^ Or a crow being tricked into eating a sun god. Or a girl killing herself because she accidentally killed random people with her death-hax powers. Touhou's allowed to be dark (but not grimdark), as long as it's limited to the backstory.

you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too cramped
Hakunon's Strange QuestExactly! ...OK I get your point. But note that the characters you mentioned were from much later in the series. Character stories (when they had them) usually weren't nearly that dark around the time of Eo SD. I think the darkest we got for a while was Yuyuko killing herself and the evil tree killing people. After that, things stayed kinda light until Subterranean Animism (mostly Satori and Koishi's backstories, but YMMV) and Unidentified Fantastic Object (the two you mentioned). This may mean nothing though. More on this if you want. I don't mind either way.
