I think every midboss should have separate discussion. Maybe with shorter time before the next person but doing it in a group makes it likely that a character will get ignored in favor of a marginally more popular one.

Besides, we've had characters like Yamame where we didn't expect much discussion (in the old thread) that produced several pages.

Shizuha is probably going to be done with her sister. Daiyousei and Koakuma have been around for so long that they have such complete fanon personalites that we can discuss them as canon-personality characters. Kisume is... a girl in a bucket, but since the other three are already taken, we might as well do her by herself. I said what you said before; Faw said that. I'm with them.

What about Lily White? She's epic, being genki enough to produce bullets out of pure excitement, but she's a pretty flat character.

^{This is Parsee Mizuhashi's theme. She's a youkai with a wounded heart. So, I thought I'd like to make her a melodious song, and this is how it ended up. You wouldn't think it's a song for a shooting game, but when I tried to think of something good for a shooting game it settled down into something like this.}

Write-up:
Once upon a time, there was a bridge between the underground world and the surface world. It was well-frequented at that time. This pleased the guardian spirit of the bridge. With her proud, watchful eye, she looked out for those crossing over to ensure that their trip would be a safe one.

And yet, bound to this place, watching the people pass by freely from one point to another, without a care in the world, jealousy stirred in her heart. The more she focused on the carefree smiles of people crossing her bridge, the more her jealousy grew. Eventually, her whole heart was painted green as jealousy consumed her being, manifesting as a ferocious green monster. Her magical ability became the power to manipulate jealousy in other people's hearts. Jealousy. Jealousy.

Years later. People no longer cross the bridge. A lone youkai woman is left behind. And she is still jealous.

Is jealousy everything that makes up Parsee's character? Who could she befriend, why would they want to be friends with her, is she even capable of a healthy relationship with anyone, and can she even leave the bridge to begin with? What lies behind those green eyes?

I don't really want to do the Aki's together because I think of them separately.

Maybe I'll do a single write-up for them, but I think they should have separate discussion.

Characters with little characterization are the most fun because we have to leave the shore of canon and drift into our actual beliefs on the character.

Of Note

Parsee's existance revolves around puns and alliteration, she's Persian(hashihito) bridge princess(hashihime) who wears a scarf. Also she's jealous and has green eyes. Also her last name is Mizuhashi

Some popular middle eastern video game characters are hashshashins. This sorta fits the above alliteration and is sort of my headcanon. Just thought I should mention it.

Her ears may be ZUN art, but they are awesome. This is purely objective fact of course.

When the underworld was open she watched over people making sure they could get back and forth safely. However, since she was stuck in her work as people merrily went on their way, her jealousy (which apparently she already had at this point) grew until she grew mad from it.

Though fans often like to portray as jealous, her power is to invoke "UJELLY" on others. We don't know how this works, but we think it involves lasers.

It's not clear if she is a bridge princess like the one in the Tale of Genji who has a noblewoman who prayed for the power to get revenge on her cheating husband and the gods were all like NO! If this was true for Parsee, it would certainly add depth to her character.

When Parsee flies around, she assumes the fetal position.

Danmaku:

The titles of her attacks reference Japanese myths. This may be to identify Japanese as not her native tongue, as fairytales of a nation are often taught to those learning the language.

Her attacks often flower or heart shaped danmaku. Discuss.

She has the power to create a jealousy clone to double her attack power.

Music

Not my favorite to be honest, but I do find the melody to be particularly haunting. And then there's the epic piano arpeggio in the background.

Overview

Parsee is one of my favorite characters. Her design is memetic, the scarf and ears, but what I really like about her is the room for interpretation. Is she stuck at her bridge? Is she a bridge princess like in the original tale? Is she always jealous or does she invoke jealousy in others? Is this a power she controls or is it subconscious? I guess we may never know.

Jealousy, jealousy. The emotion concerned here is actually envy...

I just felt compelled to point that out. Pay it no heed.

Looking at the dictionary, envy is the desire to possess what other people have while jealousy is the resentment one feels towards them for having what you don't. Honestly, I think jealousy is closer than envy to what she feels. It's entirely a negative thing in this case, rather than a desire to achieve more.

As I've stated before, it is my opinion that Parsee is the unhappiest character in the series. I'm sure that everyone here has experienced envy at least once. It is certainly not nice or enjoyable. Far from it.

Think about it: she spent her time escorting people to the light of the surface world, never being allowed there herself, trapped on/under her bridge. How many years do you think she did this, before her diligence became sadness, and then envy, and finally hatred.

Until she wanted to kill everyone who tried to cross her bridge using her newfound power to manipulate the hatred, envy and jealousy of others, lurking in the darkness, hating those who dwell in the light, until every bit of joy and happiness she ever experienced was forgotten. She's not a figure you should hate.

She is someone who you can only pity.

Jealousy is also anxiety caused by the fear of loss, though, and envy can also refer to resentment as well as desire. The desire for another's possession can easily lead to resentment after all.

I just use envy as a catch-all term to avoid confusion.

About Parsee's power, it's my personal opinion that instead of creating new emotions, she merely amplifies what is already there, which is much darker, or at least I think so.

EDIT: Parsee's one of my favourite characters. At the very least I can sympathise with her. Plus, I'm a sucker for gloominess.

And if she's Persian, then her native tongue would be Farsi. (Thank you, Pulse)

PS: I'm actually really interested in the Yuugi/Parsee dynamic. I want to see someone manage to pull this off in a realistic fashion, one that doesn't involve "I love her because she's cute", but an actual reason for why anyone should bother! Though I guess it has to be said that Yuugi might be macho enough for that reason to suffice...

PPS: So does Parsee count as a true troll?

I thought that the fact she's not a bridge troll has been stated multiple times here on TVT.

I can see Yuugi/Parsee in a sort of similar way to Yuugi/Satori i.e. Parsee going 'WHY DON'T YOU HATE MEEEEEEEEEEEE?' and Yuugi just being all awesome and comforting.

That may well be. It seems kinda obvious. Since her existence is already sort of based on puns anyway, though, it makes for a fun thought experiment to try to turn her into an internet troll by putting her in a real-life setting.

It's not hard to imagine Yuugi not hating Parsee, but "not hate" is still a bit of a way removed from "love".

Also, Parsee reeks of terrible depression. As someone who suffers from it myself, Parsee seems really familiar. Parsee has sadness. Parsee has rage. Parsee has fear. But Parsee has no joy. She always sees herself as coming in last. She's not good enough for anyone, least of all herself. Parsee needs a friend, but Parsee, her powers, or perhaps even both, are far too corrosive to most people. And so Parsee sits on her bridge, which no one ever crosses, forever drowning in her own hate of others, and even worse, her hatred of herself.

Horseless, that quote you attributed to Aya is actually one of Hatate's.

And then Yuugi comes around to give the girl a noogie and tell her to lighten up.

Hence why I find that pairing to be up there with Mokou/Keine as far as acceptance within the fandom. I almost NEVER see Parsee or Yuugi with anyone else in a pairing. Actually, I just realized that Yuugi is kinda like Parsee's Manic Pixie Dream Girl, though I doubt Yuugi's gonna die any time soon. And isn't hyper enough. And lots of other problems with this metaphor, but you get the point.

Hey, I just realised something.

Parsee's name rhymes with Farsi.

I get the sense that Yuugi would do that to anyone who was acting like a sook, whether or not she was romantically interested in them.
