Was Googling The Joker Blogs when it's page came up.
"Urge to thump... rising."
I am serious. This is my serious face.
I was googling Madness Combat when its page on here came up. I clicked on it, got confused, and left. A year later, I stumbled upon it again due to a comment on an episode of Freeman's Mind on youtube (something like: "Ross Scott, I would like to inform you that your series now has a page on tv tropes. Sincerely, the internet"). Since I love everything Freeman's Mind related, I came here again to see the page. I read it, got confused about trope meanings, went on a wiki walk, and another year later, here I am.
A good old-fashioned Google search brought me upon a strange link titled 'Nobody Poops'. I had to click it, and after that, it was history.
Was browsing a Baldur's Gate-centered forum back in August 2009 or thereabouts (the thread in question pertained to some mod idea, IIRC), and someone posted a link to Too Awesome to Use. My life's been going downhill ever since.
I was googling Concerned because I was bored and found the TV Tropes page on it. And from then on I've always had a few tabs open on whatever computer I'm on.
Thunder, Perfect Mind
I was looking up information on The Residents' notorious cassette release Baby Sex and stumbled onto our page for them. I didn't find out that there were fora here for a while, and even then I only posted a handful of times before diving in completely a few months later.
Some idiot posted a link to some page or another. I didn't get anything done that entire week. To busy opening fifty something tabs and reading them all.
My brother has so far proven resistant. I've even pointed him at the Dr Who HONF pages, to no effect. (Although, he did spend about an hour or so doing some clicking.) So far, it's not taken. I have more plans, though. Bwhahahaha!
My sister showed me the page for Avatar the Last Airbender

I was either drawn in here by Irregular Webcomic or Darths & Droids.
The sequel to this thread should be how TV Tropes ruined your life. For instance it's way less fun reading a trope page when you have seen so few of the shows that are on it. Once I watched a troperiffic show, that's how I really discovered how great TV Tropes was, browsing every page even that one show had.
"Nullius addictus iurare in verba magistri, quo me cumque rapit tempestas, deferor hospes."
I was on a Danny Phantom fan site that kept linking to TV Tropes. I eventually started browsing around some, and then never stopped.
Victory! Honor! Destiny! Mutton!
It was referred to on a site called "The Rough Guide to the Known Galaxy" which is similar but lists only science fiction tropes.

Place your past in a book burn the pages let them cook.
I went to Something Awful, lurking back them they were actually relevant. I discovered their thread on this place. I started lurking here, looking for content to post. I found out the guys in the thread were grossly misrepresenting people here, and that it was a nice place. So I stayed. One of the things I like the most here is how people can express absolutely abhorrent opinions as long as they're civil about it, which allows me to understand and judge them fairly and with a clean conscience. Something that I couldn't achieve in places that were dedicated to systematically biased criticism. Though I do find contrarians-for-the-sake-of-it to be really annoying.
"You should always go to other people's funerals; otherwise, they won't come to yours." Yogi Berra.
I was linked here by Shadowmaster of Battle for Wesnoth's forums; he and some of the game's developers are tropers, too.
Space Mom, how could you?!
FABRICATI DIEM, PVNC!
One of my friends did some of the graphics for that game.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.
I explained on my page, but I'll share it here as well... A few years ago, I was reading a Harvest Moon forum, and they were giving tropes to various characters. I clicked on one of the links, and... Shortly after, I found a new home.

Someone posted a link to Hilarity Ensues on a Pokémon forum.
Looking up good Calvin and Hobbes websites (suprisingly hard) and ran across the Calvin and Hobbes page. Went back and forth to the website before discovering that it holds knowledge on EVERY SINGLE THING IN THE WORLD.
The Great Magister Nine
I was searching about info on Roguelikes on google (out of fandom of the subgenre) and found the TV Tropes page for it.
Undyne: ANIME'S REAL, RIGHT?!?!
*Anime is real *Anime is not real

Welcome to Me
I discovered Tv tropes when I was searching for Family Guy.
I was looking up the source of the meme "A Wizard Did It."
