So are you justifying the shitty practice or just elaborating on how shitty it is?
Is not impressed.Just showing how creators got screwed over back then. Most new writers follow some vairant of JMS's advice when it comes to their creations: register and copywrite them so that they own them and not the studio. Others have gone to court and won (See Neil Gaiman vs Todd McFarland over Spawn characters Gaiman created).
I never said I liked the idea that "work for hire" was some carte blache for studio's to exploit creators, despite what Stan Lee or Gene Roddenberry (and their fanboys) might think. In fact, irony time: both stood on the shoulders of their co-creators and then both got Kicked Upstairs. Lee saw Marvel become a media powerhouse, only to be bought by non-comics media companies and ultimately Disney, Roddenberry ripped off his co-creators (or tried to pretend that they didn't exist) but got "promoted" to management on the movies and saw his influence wane over the course of TNG. Like Stan Lee, his universe is now property of a media giant. However, unlike Stan Lee, Roddenberry never came around and admitted that his co-creators deserved credit.
At least Stan Lee speaks fondly of guys like Jack Kiby. Roddenberry barely mentions Gene Coon or Robert Justman. Most were Demoted to Extra (mentioned in passing on the "Next Generation companion") until recently.
Nowadays, most creators try to share credit, what with the internet and blogs. Most are happy to, given that paying tribute to other creators is the right thing to do.
Studios? They never change. Unless taken to court.

All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be a case on The First 48The Atlantis: The Lost Empire review is up.
Is not impressed.Ok, am I the only one that notices how much this is movie is like Stargate???
No. It's a pretty common opinion.
Not Three Laws compliant.Oh goo. When Chuck never made one stargate joke I thought I was losing my mind. (or did I miss it?)

As someone who's never seen any of that series, how is it like Stargate?
Oh God! Natural light!More the movie than series.
Some clarification: I haven't seen anything related to Stargate.
Oh God! Natural light!Young scientist with a radical Idea concerning ancient civilization is rejected by the scientific community, but is contacted by a group who show that his idea is correct and invite him along on an exploration because of his language and cultural skills. When they arrive there are complications involving advanced ancient technologies and the mission's leader bringing weapons and using the mission for less idealistic purposes. Young scientist pulls together and stops the conflict, but decides to stay with the civilization (specifically the girl) when the rest go home.
Oh, and both of the movies involve civilizations that lost the ability to read.
In Stargate, it makes sense, in Atlantis...not so much.
Not Three Laws compliant.x3 I haven't watched all of Chuck's stuff, and Stargate just isn't something I'm interested in.
Oh God! Natural light!I haven't watched the series proper either, but Chuck's reviews are quite entertaining all by themselves.
Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three.@KarkatTheDalek: I never groked StarGate, it just never gelled in my mind. Babylon Five? Smitten after the pilot. DS9? I loved it. Firefly...deeply missed.
BSG and Stargate...eh...just So Okay, It's Average for me. Nothing to really "wow" me.
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be a case on The First 48You don't have to like stargate, I was just surprised. I knew Atlantis had some broad common brush strokes but... I mean Milo may as well be the animated avatar of Daniel Jackson.
I haz a sad... :(

The Dauphin... Ok this will be good.
Regarding the issue with the flying machines still working; it's possible they were designed to work fartther away from the crystal than the other technology, since they were made to fly away from Atlantis and still need to be able to fly on the other side of the ocean. They probably contain some kind of batteries or something.

More clone wars looks fun, and... Wing Commander? That's unexpected. I'll be looking forward to that.
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenMan it's so funny seeing how far behind the non early access queue is. My request for Foothold's been out for a long while now.
Anywho, Wing Commander is a good surprise.
Wait, this was supposed to be a Firestorm story? Well now I hate this episode with a passion!
(no matter how brilliant it is)
Values Dissonance: google "Work for Hire" and how it's now viewed as a Deal with the Devil. There are singers and songwriters who will never see a dime for the iconic songs they wrote. Why are some comic characters defiled? Because the comic publisher owns the rights to the character and can do what ever they want.
In many cases, studios still try to play fast and loose with rights and crediting authors and creators. Gene, sadly was of the It's All About Me mindset. Just ask some of the writers and the composer he...creatively borrowed from.
