Commander Shepard is Adrian Shephard:

...from Half-Life: Opposing Force. At the end of OPFOR, Adrian Shephard is wisked away to some unknown land and forgotten about. It is clear that the Gman teleported Adrian Shephard into the future, where he dropped the H from his surname and became an ass-kicking, collar-grabbing space marine. It makes perfect sense.

YOU STOLE MY THEORY YOU JERK. D:<

...Actually, no, you didn't. I theorized it was more of a family tie/descendant thing. XD Or alternate universes.

And Adrian's father is the Shepard from Modern Warfare, and the guy from SG Atlantis is his brother.
Charlie Tunoku is a lover and a fighter.
Das kann doch nicht sein!
So Mass Effect is the sequel of Opposing Force?

Isn't Adrian an unisex name? Adrian Shepard could be a woman.

Of course, that would raise the question why "she" has a male sounding voice. And more importantly, why she sleeps in the same room as the men (judging from the training level)...

I believe Cmdr. Shepard is male according to the canon, although we never see "his" face in OPFOR so I guess it's possible. Female Adrian Shephard posed as a man in order to get into the Marines as a soldier, (since women still aren't allowed to serve in direct combat roles) which explains her manly voice (she was trying to sound manly to avoid suspicion) and why she sleeps in the male barracks.

No, Adrian is masculine. The feminine version is Adriana.

Nobody in fiction can have the same last name without being secretly related. No exceptions.

[up][up] That may be, but I'm sure that there are also women called Adrian.
