What is with the new "Trivia" section? What is it for? It just seems like a place for people to post spoilers.

What's happening? My cookies are expiring every time I close my browser, or page away from this site.

Right now, there's _utmb which expires thirty minutes after I logged in, _utmc which expires "at the end of the session", _utma, which expires 2 years from now, and _utmz, which expires in six months. mazeltov and troperhandle were made and expired immediately when I signed in.

So what's the deal with merging here?

I saw The Fat Guy With The Big Lips And Pimply Nose get merged into Gonk. No explanation, no discussion (that I found), just a redirect without comment.

Then there's Mama Bear and Papa Wolf. Some guy has apparently decided that they're merge able, and taken it upon himself to enforce said merger. I thought this wasn't wikipedia and this kind of stuff didn't happen here.

Those were discussed in the Trope Repair Shop. There should have been some comment left in the merged-to discussion.

@Mad: I don't find anything in the code that would be setting your login cookie to expire. Possibly something has changed in your browser cookie policy?

Could be. Probably is, in fact. I have no idea what would have changed, but my Yahoomail cookie dies, too. Thanks for looking.

If you have new or updated antivirus software, it can sometimes go berserk on your cookie policy. You may want to look at that, too.

Is the pothole finder working? I was thinking of doing a clean-up of the wiki getting rid of every instance of Macekre since we have Cut And Paste Translation, but the search is down and pothole finder isn't loading for me.

My main complaint is that Mc Names end up linked just because assholes don't realize that Typing Words Like This Makes A Link, even when it's Not Supposed To. That, and NO ONE WANTS TO HELP ME CLEAN THEM UP. I'm still finding 100, 000 of them daily.

I wonder, would it be possible to change the parser to not auto-Wiki Word words of the form "LETTERS#####", where # is a number? That could cut a lot of redlinks, although I don't know how hard it would be.

Really, the parser skipping all words with numbers in them might help, although I know that they're treated as lowercase letters at the moment.

A search bar that actually prioritize Wiki Articles and puts the most relevant search (aka, the title of the article that matches with your search) on top would be nice.

yeah, I composed a long response to it and then deleted it. I've been doing that a lot lately.

I happen to agree quite strongly with most of Broken Chaos' post (although I'm not convinced that the threads that "mysteriously disappear" isn't just a bug - but if so, it probably needs fixing). The copyright point in particular disturbs me, because I can easily imagine that coming back around to bite us at some point in the future.

Yeah... That list was partially just me venting frustrations. The CC licence concerns were valid (more valid than I initially thought, actually), but seem to be on the road to being dealt with now. The GPL thing was more of an It Just Bugs Me than an actual legal concern — it's completely following the letter of the licence, but it's using a loophole that allows web applications to ignore the spirit.

A lot of how the wiki's run is going just fine — but that doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be improved. I also have a bit of a tendency to speak my mind whether it's a good thing or not, sometimes leading to situations where I vent like that, so I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

However, I do stand by my list for the most part (though if things like threads disappearing is a bug then that's obviously just another technical detail to fix, as opposed to an ideological adjustment), and I hope my concerns can be addressed over time.
